About Mary Rae Cawood

We built this cabin over a 2 yr period and finished it in 2014. We are avid horse lovers and trail riders. We use this cabin as well when it is not being rented out.

Why Mary Rae Cawood chose Big South Fork

Our family has always loved the area and the BSF National Forest is a hidden gem of East Tennessee.

What makes this cabin unique

It is a great location to a main trail head on the Oneida side of the National Forest.

Cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the stay, the cabin was great and very cozy, was a perfect place to come back to after enjoying the outdoors all day. Nice and clean with a great view of the neighbor hood and plenty of adventures near by.

Wonderful, Simple Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. We didn't want to come home, and wished we could have stayed a few more days. Even though it rained the whole time we were there we kept busy watching movies. We also did some shopping in the area. The only issue we had was one of the lamps in the living room did not have a light bulb in it so it was very dark at night with only one lamp working. Otherwise our stay was wonderful, and we had a fun family getaway.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. The weather this Spring has not been very cooperative. Thanks for bringing the light bulb issue in the living room to my attention. It will be fixed shortly. Come back and see us soon!

Great cabin!

Very nice cabin. It is in a rural location but still close to town. We were able to relax and actually get away from everyday life and just enjoy the days.

Great little cabin with everything you would need to feel at home.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, a nice little cabin to come back to after our family hiking adventures at BSF(honey creek trail, difficult but our favorite!) . The owners were extremely forgiving with our scheduling changes, and great to deal with. Be aware you might not have cell service, we didn't(att). Probably a good thing unless there's an emergency. Although it rained a full day, we felt comfortable hanging out all afternoon at the cabin watching movies. Overall a great experience.

Fantastic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I took three teens on a week-long rock climbing trip and had a wonderful time staying at this lovely cabin. It was extremely clean, cozy and very well supplied - from a fully stocked kitchen to abundant towels, linens and paper products. The cabin is wonderfully decorated with a fun equestrian theme. The owners were always extremely quick to respond to my questions, both prior to renting the cabin and during our stay. While some may find it difficult to "disconnect" in a cabin without wifi or reliable cell access, the lack of 24/7 access to "noise" helped make the trip the huge success it turned out to be. The kids put away their electronics and ended up genuinely engaging with each other.

Owner's Response: That is always good to hear that teens are able to disconnect from their devices and give full attention to their family members and friends. That is one of our goals when you visit our cabin!

The comforts of home....

  • 5 of 5

We loved the rustic cabin with western decor. The home provided all of the comforts we needed, there was ample space for everyone. We enjoyed sitting by the gas fireplace in the evenings, cooking in the open kitchen and relaxing on the front porch overlooking the large property. The home is located about 8 miles from Oneida for shopping and restaurants, 15 miles from Huntsville for riding ATV's at Brimstone Recreation and 500 yards from the trail head to the Big South Fork National Park. Great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
