John and Kirk moved to Wolfeboro from Houston, TX. Talk about a pleasant culture shock! John is retired Guidance Counselor who currently spends his time creating unique, high quality, hand-crafted soaps, which he sells under the name Back Bay Soaps. When not creating his bejeweled soaps and hand-crafted bags, John spends most of his time waiting on Rocco and Lola, our spoiled and loving 3 year old Yorkie-Poos.
Kirk is a Corporate Controller for an international company and travels, often too much according to Lola! When home he plans elaborate annual parties, tends the flower beds, sells promotional products through GILCO Specialties, and decorates.
Kirk Gilmore & John Agostine purchased this house in 2013
We fell in love with Wolfeboro the moment we drove down main street, captivated by the true New England charm of this sleepy little town. As far as the church, we both feel in love with it as soon as we opened the front door. The prior owner spent a lot of time and money transforming the bones of the building into a 5 BR, 4 bath residence--we simply took it to a higher level. We (Kirk) loves to throw parties, our 2nd Annual Christmas Party was attended by more than 225 people. We name the property "Celebrate on Union" with the intentions of one day being a small event center. The decorations are a unique and eclectic mix of antiques, modern shiny glass, oriental rugs and "things". We believe in of them. Each time you walk into a room you are likely to notice something that you did not notice before. And if you like Christmas, Celebrate on Union becomes a Christmas Wonderland with lavish decorations (and glitter) dripping from every surface! We love to entertain and share our space with both old and new friends. We look forward to getting to know you
Each of our rooms have a European style bath with an antique claw-footed tub, perfect for a relaxing soak. The wood ceiling in the bedrooms provide a warm welcome and the new Mitsubishi A/C & heating units ensure perfect sleeping comfort on the both days each year when the humidity is too high to sleep with the window open.
“Kirk and John were perfect hosts. They provided every possible convenience and were so welcoming to us on what was the first of many more visits to Wolfeboro. Our room was exactly as advertised and was clean, comfortable and quiet. Arriving to a chilled bottle of white wine and cookies was an added treat and the handmade soaps in our room were divine. They even gifted us with some handcrafted soap when we left!! Their home is unique, beautiful and extremely comfortable -- it was also within walking distance (an easy 3-4 minute walk) to downtown Main Street, the waterfront and all the shops, galleries and restaurants you could want. We would love to return to this incredible home again.”
An unexpected surprise. A true treasure which made the fall drive to NH special.
We had a wonderful stay at the old church. The property owner John was incredibly friendly and creative. There were cookies and wine and cocktails waiting for us if we wanted it. We had a busy weekend but found time to just hang there as it was fun to walk around and admire the art and decorative items the owners had placed everywhere.
John and Kirk were wonderful hosts. The property was clean and had all the items we needed for our stay including a full service Kitchen. The room was well air conditioned, we had wifi, and television. The property is just a short wall away from downtown Wolfeboro and a grocery store was close by. The cookies were spectacular and enjoyed having cocktails at the end of our busy day. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
The Old Church is fabulous to stay in: comfortable room with attention to detail. The décor of the church was interesting to meander through! The outdoor deck is a great place to relax and have meals and drinks. The kitchen was great to use for breakfast and lunch prep. John and puppies helped us out with any questions/requests we had. The property is truly 'park-your-car-and-walk'. We brought our bikes and in minutes were cycling through the trails or to the beach(fabulous - we went to several). We walked to dinner each night and had great meals in every(4) restaurant. We hit up the weekly Farmers' Market and luckily were there for a Craft show: both had great variety and unique finds!! The Boat Museum and Antique Wooden Boat ride were both great activities. We toured around the whole lake one day!! Lots to discover! We would return to Wolfboro with those fabulous mountains rising beyond the Lake W and the Old Church anytime.
Wolfeboro is a sleepy little, quaint New England town. Picturesque and slow paced. Although there is outlet shopping with an hours drive, you do not come to Wolfeboro for shopping. Lake Winnipesaukee is one of the cleanest lakes in the United States and the waterfront properties are truly spectacular. The summer months are generally mild with average highs only reaching into the low 80s--occasionally! Spring doesn't begin until late April and the Indian Summer (Fall) Nights are truly spectacular. Drink your morning coffee on our outdoor patio and have complimentary cocktails on our raise deck. The church is truly a landmark in the area and everyone that walks inside is absolutely amazed at the interior. We are told repeatedly that pictures do not come close to doing Celebrate on Union justice. Come enjoy our hospitality. Your privacy is respected, but be certain to keep your door shut, or Rocco and Lola (the resident Yorkie-Poo host and hostess) may give you an invigorating welcome! We live downstairs, so our guests have complete use of the main level, loft, gourmet kitchen and dining areas.

Owners and two Yorkie-Poos live on lower level. Although we are not a B&B, there may be multiple guests as there are two private bedrooms and a loft, each with private full baths. Access to main level kitchen, dining room and living space. W/D available by appt with owners.
Within walking distance to everything in Wolfeboro. Mexican restaurant is only a two minute walk and virtually everything else in town is within a 5 minute walk! Beds are new with luxurious 600 ct sheets! In-room electronic hotel safe large enough for a laptop. We recently completed a bi-level outdoor terrace, which is great for having your morning coffee and reading the paper, or evening cocktails. We have also just added a raised deck off the main level with a portable heater, seating and propane grill!
We are located close to everything...town hall, restaurants, shops, Lake Winnipesaukee, Back Bay, Wolfeboro Inn, grocery stores, pharmacy, hardware store...all this and much more within an easy 2-5 min walk!
