About the property

1922 Vintage Cottage

Let me welcome you to my charming beach cottage which I feel, is the perfect getaway retreat. Close enough to everything but just far enough off the beaten path to offer you a perfect relaxing holiday. Completely remodeled just a year ago down to the original hardwood floors this quaint beach cottage offers all the new amenities one could desire while keeping every bit of charm.

My 3bd/2ba beach cottage easily accommodates 6 people. Each bedroom has a comfortable bed, 1 California King and 2 Queens, offering a great nights rest. Take a long soothing bath in the claw foot tub or a rain shower in the second bathroom.

Located in the Bluff Heights area of Long Beach, it's a short walk to the beach & restaurants with great shopping areas inside of a mile. Bike rentals are also available just around the corner at 404 Bike rental, allowing you the freedom to leave the car at home.

The kitchen is equipped with everything (except a dishwasher) that you might need to prepare your favorite dish or you can enjoy a barbecue and a glass of wine out on the patio. Take in a little California sunshine on the front deck, walk to a local coffee shop or restaurant, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the garden and the smell of sweet jasmine.

About Cris

I would love to make my home available to you on your travels!

Born and raised in England and moved to the US in 2003. I work in aviation and enjoy food/cooking, travel, yoga, gardening, architecture, art, sustainable living, community, good beer and simply doing the things that make me happy :-)

Why Cris chose Long Beach

Why stay in a hotel when you can experience Long Beach as a local.

Most of this neighborhood was built during the post World War 1 real estate boom and still holds the natural charm of Los Angeles in the 50's and 60's. Anyone can be a tourist, but not everyone can get a feel for what it's like to live in Long Beach. The cottage allows you to relax and do just that.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage provides all the comforts of home and all the possibilities of waking up in a brand new place with nothing to do but explore.

Property was absolutely FABULOUS! Great location in quiet residential area, conveniently located!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay! Property was immaculate and decorated with an upscale California feel! The layout was perfect to accommodate all my needs and gave me a sense of home and security every evening I arrived back to the cottage. The quiet residential surroundings was inarguably a nice added bonus and the claw foot tub allowed me to escape into my own private paradise away from it all. A special word of praise to Valerie the property manager who was easily accessible and quickly accommodating to my needs. This property is an A+ rental and highly recommended. I welcome a return visit to this place of tranquility and rest!

AWESOME Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure stating in at the cottage over the weekend. We absolutely loved it. It is very well decorated and super comfortable. House was very well kept and quite luxurious in its appointments. We have two little girls who thought the house was simply magic and enjoyed the outside porch and super comfy couches. There are two drawbacks to the house that should be made note of. 1. There is no dishwasher. It's not a big deal and we simply did the dishes by hand. 2. There are steps in the house that you wouldn't expect at the kitchen and into the master bedroom. These are simply from the property being built in 1922, but they will make it hard for people with disabilities. Other than that the house was perfect!

It has cockroaches.

  • 1 of 5

We were there for three nights in the middle of October 2016. Don't let the pictures you see online fool you. Old and small house. No garage and not even a real parking space right outside the house. The one-car garage was remodeled into an extra bedroom, so it is not big at all. The other two bedrooms are small too but beds are big so you'll feel there is not much space. The add-on bathroom has shower only, it has no sink. The sink is set outside the bathroom but it has no mirror, the mirror is inside the bathroom. Such a rare design.

The place doesn't seem dirty but things are not clean. Rugs in the bedrooms are dirty, seat of those dinning chairs are dirty, we found cockroaches in the kitchen and light is out in the fridge. The most up-to-date is the kitchen but there is cockroaches.

It was not a pleasant stay and experience. I will not recommend this property to my friends or relatives.

Owner's Response: This review was left by a person who did not even stay in the cottage (despite signing our rental agreement that specifies that the person who is booking the cottage must be a member of the rental party and stay in the property during the entire visit.) She lied to my booking manager during a phone conversation on the evening of their arrival, and the group ended up having more people than was contracted and paid for. It is my opinion that this guest has left this negative review in retaliation for having to make an extra payment for the additional person. To address the complaints: Firstly there isn't any vermin in the cottage. I stay at the house regularly and have never seen them. Clearly if that were the case I would indeed have dealt with the issue. Moreover, the guest never mentioned it once. The linens and all bathroom rugs are cleaned by my team of cleaners upon guests checking out. I can assure you that they are all clean and without stains. The advert never once mentioned a garage, it has a parking spot and there is still plenty of street parking that is always available. Finally, the cottage was built in 1922! Architectural design of homes was vastly different compared to today. If you wished to live in a period cottage in a historical neighborhood with access to all the attractions of Long Beach and Los Angeles then this is for you. Clearly this wasn't for you so perhaps next time, you might want to consider staying in a hotel. Amanda T did not adhere to the terms of the contract that she signed. I would recommend caution to any other hosts who are considering renting to this guest.

Great location and very nice

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying in this cottage very much. It was close to restaurants and bars and easy walk/run to the waterfront. The house is beautifully decorated inside and out and the kitchen was well equipped.

Our only criticisms are that the bed in the lower level bedroom was not comfortable (we moved during the middle of the night) and the front door locking system did not work. That said, the manager picked up the phones quickly when we called and directed us to a lockbox so we were able to get in. We had more communications over the weekend that the owner had just been there and said it was working fine and it was implied we just did not know how to use it. Having been a realtor for 7 years and traveling with a builder, we know a think or two about locks and lockboxes. We never did get it working but had a key so it wasn't a huge deal. We appreciated that they had a back up plan.

The back patio is absolutely lovely.

Zen Beach Cottage

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was very nice and overall we really enjoyed our stay. A little uncomfortable without central air and a lot of problems with the internet shutting down. I did purchase a propane tank for the grill ( went out half way though cooking). other than that it was great.
