Overview

About the property

5 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Sleeps 12-24, Lake View & Access! Sister property next door!

New improvements for 2017! We have added a fire pit and remodeled the downstairs bath to include a shower. We have also added a sister property next door allowing us to accommodate an additional 10 guests. Please contact us if you have a large group and need the extra space! We can now accommodate groups up to 24 people! Our house is situated near the end of a private drive shared by 3 families. We like to call it "The Lake House". This 5 bedroom house (one of the bedrooms is a loft) will comfortably sleep up to 14 people although the rates are based on 12 occupants. Additional guests may stay at a rate of $25/guest per night. You will enjoy an amazing family room with comfy couches, a stone gas fireplace (used seasonally), and a high ceiling with large windows looking out over the lake. There is a well equipped kitchen and dining area with a table that will seat 10. From the kitchen you can walk out onto the upper deck and relax or operate the available gas grill. The master bedroom is on the main floor and has a king bed and a door that leads out onto the back deck. There is also a full bath on this main level. Upstairs is the loft with a queen size bed, a small bedroom with a twin size trundle bed, and another full bath. The lowest level in the home has two bedrooms, each with a twin over full bunk bed. There is a bathroom on this level with a shower. The laundry is located just off of one of the bedrooms. There is a family room on this level that has a game table, a sleeper sofa, a gas fireplace (used seasonally), and a 55" TV with BlueRay, and DVD.

There is WIFI available throughout the house and on the deck. There is a large upper deck overlooking the lake with plenty of space for everyone! There is a lower deck with a porch swing perfect for enjoying the beautiful view of the lake. The family room and one of the bedrooms open onto this lower deck.

The house is just a short walk from the lake down a set of easy stairs. There is dock access and the swimming and fishing is great from the dock too!

While staying at our house, you are just minutes from Bailey's Point Recreation area and public boat ramp, minutes from Barren River Lake State Park, and about 45 minutes from Bowling Green, KY. It would be easy to visit the National Corvette Museum, or Mammoth Caves.

This is a great place for families to enjoy some quiet, relaxing, fun times together. You will be staying in a fairly private area and although there are houses close by, this is a quiet neighborhood. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place!

This lake is managed by the Army Corp. of Engineers. The water level is regulated to be at summer levels from May through the middle of October. From the middle of October until the first part of May, the lake is at its winter level and all private docks on the lake are unusable. During this time, the lake cannot be seen from the house. The lakebed is still a fun place to walk and there is a small creek that flows year round. During the summer, the lake level stays fairly constant unless there are heavy rains or extreme drought. Because of this, we cannot guarantee what the water level will be. Please ask questions if you have any.

About Tom Nazarenus

I, Tom, and my wife Lisa own this house with her parents John and Rita. We live not far away in Tennessee. Lisa and her parents have lived in the area for nearly 30 years, and I have lived in the area for about 8 years. Lisa and I have two children, a 5 year old, and a 3 year old so life is very exciting. Our entire family enjoys being near the lake, and so we are excited to share that experience with you through the use of our house!

Tom Nazarenus purchased this house in 2015

Why Tom Nazarenus chose Scottsville

We chose this property for several reasons. The quiet private drive, the quiet cove on the lake, and the direct lake access and lake views. We love to boat and ski so finding a place right on the water was very important to us. With small children, we wanted a place where we could enjoy the water with them without having to be far from home. This house was perfect for us!

What makes this house unique

We knew this was the house for us when we walked in and saw the amazing stone fireplace and high ceiling. The views of the lake from the living room and back deck are incredible. Enjoying a place like this by yourself is wonderful, but so is sharing it with your friends. This place is certainly large enough to share! There are two nice family rooms to enjoy. The main level has comfortable leather sofas, a fireplace (seasonally used), and large windows with great views of the lake. The second family room is set up for games and movies with a table, comfortable seating, a 55" TV with BlueRay/DVD, and a gas fireplace (used seasonally). The upper level deck provides room for your entire group and a place to cook out. The lower deck, although smaller, still provides lots of space and a porch swing to enjoy the great views of the lake. The house right next door is also available to rent allowing us to accommodate groups of up to 24 people! It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a nice deck, and a great view of the lake as well! Come make some great memories with your family!

Perfect place for anglers and large groups!

  • 5 of 5

This house was absolutely perfect for our stay during the FLW Regional event. It is always a difficult task finding housing that can accommodate anglers but this house was great. There was PLENTY of parking with easy in/easy out for 5 vehicles with bass boats (and probably room for 2 more if we had them) and the owner made sure we had plenty of electric to charge them all to...plus parking for 4 co-angler vehicles. 12 of us stayed in the house and there was room to spread out and with 3 floors there was space for those that wanted quiet time, those that wanted to stay up late watching TV, and those that wanted to reorganize tackle/retie and talk fishing. The house had everything we needed to make dinner every night so we didn't have to spend precious time/money driving around and waiting at restaurants. We were 7 minutes from the ramp which also had a gas station right next to it as well which made it super convenient. The owner was extremely helpful and always available via phone or text if we had questions or needed something and even stopped by personally to help with 2 problems (circuit breaker popped and toilet overflowed) during our stay that were quickly and kindly resolved so we didn't have to worry about a single thing! The internet was fast and reliable which was important for me because I had to log into work while we were there. I really can't say enough about how great everything was, we literally lacked for and worried about nothing. The next time we are back in the area, we will definitely be staying here again. Thank you so much for everything!!!

Amazing weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

We usually have a fall family camping trip, but this year we decided to rent a house on a lake. There were 14 of us and we had plenty of room. We really enjoyed the large deck overlooking the water and making s'mores over the fire pit. The weather was amazing and spend the days swimming and using the kayaks provided at the house. Also the the state park is less than 10 minutes away. Plenty of things to do like a playground, tennis courts, and basketball courts. We will definitely come back again.

Wonderful stay for my dad's 60th birthday/Labor day weekend

  • 5 of 5

Tom's place was exactly how it's portrayed in the description/pictures. We had family members from Alabama, Indiana and New York meet up for a weekend of R&R. Before we arrived, Tom reached out to let me know there was a fresh loaf of banana nut bread for us in the fridge. Very welcoming touch!

We had a full day of rain, but made the 20 minute drive to Scottsville to do some antiquing. Also, Paradise Point Market Place is an 8 minute drive from the home and definitely worth a trip - great breakfast (weekends only), fun knick knacks and friendly staff. Tom has plenty of games to keep kids and adults entertained. The remaining two days were beautiful weather, and we were able to enjoy the decks/dock/fire pit. The steps to the dock are pretty gradual. We had to assist my 83 year old grandpa. We brought wood with us, but there is a plastic tube full sitting next to the fire pit. Saturday was the first college game day - I would suggest bringing a laptop/HDMI cable in case you need to stream your favorite game. The TV gets basic channels, but we had to stream a game or two that night.

Tom was extremely communicative and made our stay carefree. We will definitely keep this property in mind for future family gatherings.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words! We are glad you stayed with us and I hope your dad enjoyed his birthday! The TV in our house is a smart tv and is connected to the internet. We have ESPN and several other popular channels, but they have to be accessed through apps. Next time you stay with us, I'll be happy to help you access these. Have a great rest of the year and we would love to have you back! Tom

Great access to the lake.

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 8 stayed for a long weekend. The accommodations were quite nice. The house was clean, the large decks on the back of the house were very useful. We rented a boat from the state park marina across the lake and enjoyed the day boating and tubing. The dock was very useful when we came back to the house to load passengers and stop for lunch.

Everything at the lake house worked well. The double waffle maker was a big hit. On a rather warm weather weekend, the AC did well. The gas grill was great!

On the downside, the kitchen is a bit small for a house that supposedly sleeps 12 people. It was frequently overcrowded in the kitchen during meal prep. Depending on the mix of people, nine adults is the absolute maximum number of people that can reasonably be accommodated in this house. There is enough room for four married couples or fewer couples and several kids.

We didn't watch much TV, but when we did, the typical cable channels (ESPN, FNC, TWC, etc.) were not available.

Overall, I give this rental a good rating. The owner is very accommodating and helpful.

Owner's Response: We are glad your family had a nice time at the lake. You are right about the kitchen being a little tight if you try to get everyone in there at the same time. There are plenty of comfortable places around the house for eating and socializing. We regularly accommodate groups of 12-14. Our decks are quite large and have several tables and lots of seating. There is a table downstairs by the TV and the dining table in the kitchen. We are also excited about getting our upper deck covered so that there is more outdoor space to enjoy when it is to sunny or rainy. That project should be completed by January, 2018.

Fabulous weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Lake House for our annual pontoon party. We keep our pontoon on Barren River Lake every summer and wanted easier access than a trip from Bowling Green. It was perfect. Lots of steps to and from the water, but very do-able.

The house was clean, cool and well equipped.

We had 12 adults and 2 children staying for the weekend and we were all very comfortable, with the exception of one couple having to use the sleeper-sofa. I'm sorry to say, but there is just not much comfort in a sleeper-sofa.

We are hoping to return again next summer for a longer stay!

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. I would have to agree with you about sleeping on a sleeper sofa! We even spent the extra money for the "deluxe" mattress! We would be happy to have you back! Tom

Very clean, comfortable, accommodating for large group with or without kids, lake access with slip

  • 5 of 5

We rented both properties with this vacation and had room for 5 families with various ages of children from babies to teens. Can sleep up to 24 easily. We spent our time mostly on the lake during the days with tubing/skiing/knee boarding or fishing. A boat slip was provided on the dock with this rental and the owner had no problem with us bringing our boat and getting a pontoon rental as well and parked both at the dock at night. The walk down to the boat has several stairs with a few large step drops but doable and we had no problems coming back up the stairs and were only partly winded. We launched our boat free at the state dock and rented the pontoon there as well. This was only a 10-15 min drive from property by roads and 10 min by boat. At night we spent time around the firepit making s'mores, playing large group games in the main living/dining area in the 2nd house, and sitting outside on the decks talking. Our group was made up of families that planted a church in our hometown and we have remained close despite some of us moving away. I would highly recommend this place for friends getaway, small group retreat, and spending time with fellow "laker" friends. Great owner to work with and lives very close (across the street) in case you have problems. We saw the owner when coming in and he provided many ways to reach him if needed. Organized books are in each house with expectations and directions. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
