This 2 bedroom cabin (one queen bedroom and one full size bedroom) is tastefully decorated with charm, with a full bath to include a claw foot tub/shower located on the lower level and a half bath located on the bedroom level. The cabin is fully furnished in keeping with the period, but with all modern conveniences. For those who cannot do stairs, there is an electric stair lift. The kitchen is fully furnished with all the necessities of a home kitchen, including washer and dryer. The cabin is located directly on the Ohio River in downtown Rising Sun, Indiana, which is within walking distance of the Rising Star Casino and within 20 miles of Belterra Casino and the Hollywood Casino.
In 1819 the cabin site was used as a hat shop and became the original post office for Rising Sun. The cabin was last restored in the mid-90's.
The cabin has all modern conveniences to include big screen TV, charming fireplace with insert for a cozy feeling with a view out the front windows of the cabin of the Ohio River. Excellent location for boaters on the Ohio River or for a romantic get-away, or a beautiful location for a wedding on the river front or in the gated backyard. Alley access is available for off the street parking with a covered car shelter. The cabin has such charm and you will enjoy strolling the river front enjoying the views, the downtown shopping area of Rising Sun and the local area activities.
My husband and I are local to the area and we will be greeting and meeting you when you check in the cabin. If you need information about the local area and attractions, we will be glad to assist you.
Dan and Kay Rager purchased this cabin in 2012
We purchased this property from a private owner's estate and have tried to maintain the property as the former owner would have liked. The cabin is a charming, peaceful place to enjoy the river front and activities of the community on the river front.
Many guests have remarked that staying at the cabin is like being at home as we try to provide everything a guest would need while staying with us. We offer so much more than a hotel room and the cabin provides you more privacy than a bed and breakfast. This is your home away from home!
Charming and cozy and relaxing are just a few of the words to describe our stay in the Olde Post Cabin. The period decorations and historical photo's and information made it feel like we had gone back in time. The river bank walk way in front was just what we needed to relax from our busy work place lives, watching the barges just float on by added to the charm. All our needs were met with greetings by the owner, and all the kitchen and bath needs to use as if in our own home. We wish we could have stayed longer. It was also much better than a hotel with the privacy and historical decor. The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean and tidy. It is also very close to the Creation Museum and Ark in Kentucky which made our stay the best.
Dan and Kay were very welcoming and accommodating. The cabin is charming and homey. It has a beautiful view of the river. This was a such a unique experience for us.
Great history here, very convenient to may things to do. Beautiful setting!
We spent a delightful weekend at the Cabin on the Ohio River and loved it--it was an authentic cabin and what a joy! It was like stepping back in time (with some modern-day luxuries)....Even though the weather was quite cold--that did not keep us from enjoying the view of the Ohio River (right at the front door) and the feeling of experiencing another era....We totally enjoyed it--everything at your fingertips--full kitchen--antique bathtub--historic feel....Now I want to go back when the weather is warm to see the lovely gardens and sights....We visited the Ark Experience in the area and it was a great day too...So if you are looking for a great time away and to get out of the city--conveniently located to many cities including Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville, Dayton--You would love this!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin right on the river. Lots of little unexpected extras. We used this as a take-off point for visits to the Creation Museum and The Ark. We highly recommend this property.
We needed a vacation and my husband and I wanted to visit The Creation Museum and The Ark, both of which are in Kentucky. Even though the cabin is in Indiana, it is only 30 minutes from The Creation Museum and 60 minutes from The Ark. Since my 87-year-old mother accompanied us, we needed a 2-bedroom, 1 1/2- or 2-bathroom place with a kitchen and living room so that we could relax after a day of sightseeing. The cabin was the perfect spot for us and we all enjoyed the coziness of this historic, restored log cabin. Because of where it is situated, it reminded me of the children's story written by Virginia Lee Burton, "The Little House". The beds were very comfortable and the entire place was clean. Our stay was for three nights the week before Christmas. The owner, Kay Rager, responded quickly to emails and was very sweet. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the place as well as information on the area. There is an unobstructed view of the Ohio River across the street with a park area. My husband, especially, appreciated the home, not only because he admires log cabins, but he could walk along the river to help unwind. He even found some cool pieces of driftwood which came home with us. The only local eatery we happened to patronize was the Rising Sun Cantina, a Mexican restaurant situated just around the corner from the cabin. We got take-out for supper, two nights in a row. It is no surprise that it is often busy...the food was delicious! We would not hesitate to stay again at the cabin or to recommend it to others.

The Creation Museum is only a 30 minute drive from the cabin. The Ark is about a one hour drive - Williamstown, Kentucky. Many guests are finding it easy to make both attractions while enjoying the cabin on the river front. The Red Wolf Sanctuary is only minutes away (reservations required for tour). The Rising Star Casino is within walking distance and on shuttle bus route.
