The cabin is located directly on the Ohio River in downtown Rising Sun, Indiana, which is within walking distance of the Rising Star Casino and within 20 miles of Belterra Casino and the Hollywood Casino.

In 1819 the cabin site was used as a hat shop and became the original post office for Rising Sun. The cabin was last restored in the mid-90's.

The cabin has all modern conveniences to include big screen TV, charming fireplace with insert for a cozy feeling with a view out the front windows of the cabin of the Ohio River. Excellent location for boaters on the Ohio River or for a romantic get-away, or a beautiful location for a wedding on the river front or in the gated backyard. Alley access is available for off the street parking with a covered car shelter. The cabin has such charm and you will enjoy strolling the river front enjoying the views, the downtown shopping area of Rising Sun and the local area activities.

About Dan and Kay Rager

My husband and I are local to the area and we will be greeting and meeting you when you check in the cabin. If you need information about the local area and attractions, we will be glad to assist you.

Dan and Kay Rager purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Dan and Kay Rager chose Indiana

We purchased this property from a private owner's estate and have tried to maintain the property as the former owner would have liked. The cabin is a charming, peaceful place to enjoy the river front and activities of the community on the river front.

What makes this cabin unique

Many guests have remarked that staying at the cabin is like being at home as we try to provide everything a guest would need while staying with us. We offer so much more than a hotel room and the cabin provides you more privacy than a bed and breakfast. This is your home away from home!

Perfect place to kick back and relax

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a place to unwind from work and this area hit the spot. So glad I booked the Olde Post Cabin. Kay and Dan have set up a wonderful place and thought of everything. Kay checked me in and provided suggestions on where to eat and what to do. The Red Wolf Sanctuary and Creation Museum were fantastic! Also would recommend driving down the river to Madison. It is a beautiful drive. Look forward to returning!

Perfect Property

  • 5 of 5

We traveled from Mississippi to the cabin in order to have a relaxing place to stay, while still being within a reasonable distance from the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. This was the perfect place. It was quiet and relaxing and the owners were fantastic. From walking along the river, to the inviting layout of the town, to the playground just down the street, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away and relax.

Quiet Place to Stay with a beautiful Water View

  • 5 of 5

I would definitely go here again. Beds were comfortable and it was so peaceful. In mid-May the flowers were blooming all over this little town so beautifully. Something I would do in advance is ask owner to unplug the air fresheners and turn up air conditioning. I didn't think to mention I'm sensitive to perfume and it irritated my sinuses badly the 1st night. The place was so clean, fresheners were not needed anyway.

We also had to cover the downstairs vents with rugs to get enough cool air into the west bedroom, even though the bedroom vents were wide open. (It was 86 degrees outdoors). After 3 hours and turning the air to 68 degrees, the upstairs bedroom temperature was OK to sleep.

This stunning cabin felt almost like home and it was so nice to cook in the kitchen and have a washer/dryer available. Being about an hour away from the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum was great. The décor is really sweet too. Thanks Kay!

Owner's Response: Sorry you were not comfortable with the air fresheners, I try to use a scent that is not offensive - lavender and vanilla is my usual. Also, as everyone knows, if you don't like Indiana weather, just wait a day! At this time of the year, we can have 80 degrees one day and 40 degree weather 24 hours later. I do have vent covers for some of the downstairs vents, which helps to push the air to the upstairs vents, but as we had not had consist hot weather those had not been put into place. I apologize if you were uncomfortable. My guests are always free to adjust the a/c and heating for their comfort and preference. Thank you for your stay. Kay

Very clean; quaint and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

My husband, two daughters (18 & 11), and I stayed here for a week in April of 2017. The house is very clean. There are plenty of bath towels and washcloths. There are things to make coffee (in a shining carafe) and a few breakfast items as well. The kitchen is quite well stocked with utensils and cookware. There were snacks available, as well as books and games. The gardens are lovely, and the view of the Ohio River was stunning every day. We enjoyed our stay in the area, visiting the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, and this home fit our budget. Our only cautions would be that, as stated in their description, it is a very old log cabin... and the walls/floors are not sound-proof at all. Any movement causes creaking on the wood floors and stairs... heard all over the house. Secondly, the Wi-Fi that is available is from an establishment next door. It works only in the kitchen (with 1-2 bars) and outside. It was never strong enough to upload pictures from my iPhone to my iPad each day... even sitting outside next door. We could have used racks to put our suitcases on, and little tables on both sides of the beds (for glasses, watches, etc)... though the bedrooms were decorated well for being small. Kay met us when we arrived and showed us around. She is extremely nice and very knowledgeable of the area. She has lots of brochures from area activities and suggestions about where to eat. You can tell she has put time and effort into making this a nice rental home, with many little touches that say "this is a comfortable home." The cleanliness was a top priority for us; the price was right, and we really enjoyed our stay. We have rented many homes and this is near the top.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the review. I wish I could eliminate the creaking floor...but its a cabin refurbished to a point, but kept some features to give the cabin some authenticity for the period. I know the bedrooms are small and wish I could fit in more furniture, but wouldn't want to eliminate the queen bed to do so. :) I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you enjoyed the daily excursions to events in the area. I try hard to provide a clean home for my guests, which is what I would want when traveling. Thank you again for being super guests and hope you return to our little area of Indiana again. Kay
