This 2 bedroom cabin (one queen bedroom and one full size bedroom) is tastefully decorated with charm, with a full bath to include a claw foot tub/shower located on the lower level and a half bath located on the bedroom level. The cabin is fully furnished in keeping with the period, but with all modern conveniences. For those who cannot do stairs, there is an electric stair lift. The kitchen is fully furnished with all the necessities of a home kitchen, including washer and dryer. The cabin is located directly on the Ohio River in downtown Rising Sun, Indiana, which is within walking distance of the Rising Star Casino and within 20 miles of Belterra Casino and the Hollywood Casino.
In 1819 the cabin site was used as a hat shop and became the original post office for Rising Sun. The cabin was last restored in the mid-90's.
The cabin has all modern conveniences to include big screen TV, charming fireplace with insert for a cozy feeling with a view out the front windows of the cabin of the Ohio River. Excellent location for boaters on the Ohio River or for a romantic get-away, or a beautiful location for a wedding on the river front or in the gated backyard. Alley access is available for off the street parking with a covered car shelter. The cabin has such charm and you will enjoy strolling the river front enjoying the views, the downtown shopping area of Rising Sun and the local area activities.
My husband and I are local to the area and we will be greeting and meeting you when you check in the cabin. If you need information about the local area and attractions, we will be glad to assist you.
Dan and Kay Rager purchased this cabin in 2012
We purchased this property from a private owner's estate and have tried to maintain the property as the former owner would have liked. The cabin is a charming, peaceful place to enjoy the river front and activities of the community on the river front.
Many guests have remarked that staying at the cabin is like being at home as we try to provide everything a guest would need while staying with us. We offer so much more than a hotel room and the cabin provides you more privacy than a bed and breakfast. This is your home away from home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin right on the river. Lots of little unexpected extras. We used this as a take-off point for visits to the Creation Museum and The Ark. We highly recommend this property.
We needed a vacation and my husband and I wanted to visit The Creation Museum and The Ark, both of which are in Kentucky. Even though the cabin is in Indiana, it is only 30 minutes from The Creation Museum and 60 minutes from The Ark. Since my 87-year-old mother accompanied us, we needed a 2-bedroom, 1 1/2- or 2-bathroom place with a kitchen and living room so that we could relax after a day of sightseeing. The cabin was the perfect spot for us and we all enjoyed the coziness of this historic, restored log cabin. Because of where it is situated, it reminded me of the children's story written by Virginia Lee Burton, "The Little House". The beds were very comfortable and the entire place was clean. Our stay was for three nights the week before Christmas. The owner, Kay Rager, responded quickly to emails and was very sweet. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the place as well as information on the area. There is an unobstructed view of the Ohio River across the street with a park area. My husband, especially, appreciated the home, not only because he admires log cabins, but he could walk along the river to help unwind. He even found some cool pieces of driftwood which came home with us. The only local eatery we happened to patronize was the Rising Sun Cantina, a Mexican restaurant situated just around the corner from the cabin. We got take-out for supper, two nights in a row. It is no surprise that it is often busy...the food was delicious! We would not hesitate to stay again at the cabin or to recommend it to others.
An excellent home to stay in if you are visiting the nearby Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. The house is very comfortable, loved the cabin, much better than staying in a hotel!
Love the home. History of it. The town, small family owned business. Everyone was nice, helpful. Oh seaplane ride. Great time!
We spent a very enjoyable week at this 200 hundred year old “Olde Post Cabin” in Rising Sun, Indiana. What a unique experience! Between the amazing restoration and the owner's beautiful decorations and furnishings, this adorable historic cabin is surely one of a kind.
Completely stocked with everything that you will need was more than we expected and we found it to be spotless when we arrived. Kay was also very helpful with everything to do and places to eat in the area including the history of the cabin.
Being on the banks of the Ohio River and watching the barges go by from the cabin or the beautiful park across the street was something to see. You'll also find that the town shops and of course the riverboat casino are just blocks away.
There were 79 visitor's comment sheets in the guest book on the coffee table. I read each one and agree with them all. A delightful & relaxing place to stay, in a beautiful historic cabin, on the Ohio River, in a quaint town, close to everything with very nice owners.
Unforgettable for sure.
We really enjoyed our stay at Olde Post Cabin. It had everything we wanted. Comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. Spacious but cozy living area. And a well-stocked kitchen. The patio and yard are also very nice. Great view of the river. We had a great girls' weekend, and I plan to return with my husband and kids.
The Creation Museum is only a 30 minute drive from the cabin. The Ark is about a one hour drive - Williamstown, Kentucky. Many guests are finding it easy to make both attractions while enjoying the cabin on the river front. The Red Wolf Sanctuary is only minutes away (reservations required for tour). The Rising Star Casino is within walking distance and on shuttle bus route.
