Two bedroom Victorian cottage in stunning rural location
About Anna Davies
We (Anna and Kristine Davies) are a mother and daughter who have lovingly restored North Lodge over the last few months to create a comfortable and cozy family holiday cottage. As well as staying in the cottage ourselves, we rent it out for others to enjoy. Anna lives on her husband's family farm in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, with her husband, two small daughters and a number of pets! She runs her own PR and Marketing consultancy, specialising in rural businesses. Kristine lives near Perth with her husband and they are both enjoying their recent retirement.

Why Anna Davies chose Colintraive
We wanted to own a holiday property in Argyll because we love the area and we fell in love with North Lodge the moment we arrived to view it. We have lovingly restored the cottage over the last few months, putting in a new kitchen and bathroom, redecorating, adding a new heating system and putting down new flooring. We love spending time at North Lodge during all seasons and hope that our guests fall as much in love with the cottage, and with Argyll and the Cowal Peninsula, as we do.
What makes this Cottage unique
The views from North Lodge are superb and whilst it is in an incredibly peaceful location, the local area offers endless choice of things to do in all weathers. Whether it be walking, sailing or horse-riding, outdoor activity is certainly popular in Argyll. However, if the weather isn't kind, Portavadie Marina and Spa is just minutes down the road and makes the perfect indoor retreat. There are also numerous fantastic pubs and restaurants within a few miles, again offering the perfect place to sit back and relax during your holiday.

Very charming cottage in beautiful location
We stayed for a full week in North Lodge and really enjoyed being there. The cottage itself is well proportioned - the living area is generous and the bedroom has a really great big bed and lots of room around it. The kitchen area has plenty of workspace, and having a dishwasher is great for being on holiday.
The location of the cottage was a little more remote than I'd actually expected, but that means it's really quiet at night, which is good. It's also really dark as no street lights (perfect for star gazing!). When we arrived it had just got dark but we wanted to get some food shopping (and some petrol) and our sat nav got us in a muddle, which was a little stressful, particularly as you only realise how many huge deer are around when you see them in your headlights!
Lots of lovely places to visit from the cottage. We did a couple of really good (challenging) walks on the Cowal Way, enjoyed Inverary Castle and took the ferry over to Bute, and were very pleased with our red squirrel encounter at Benmore Botanic gardens. For successful day trips just be prepared for all types of weather and temperatures. We also had a great meal out at the pub at Otter Ferry, though would't recommend taking the shortcut road to get there (it was genuinely terrifying).
Overall, I'd really recommend this cottage is you want a mix of exploring and relaxing as it's perfect for both.
Great cottage and location
We had a great holiday. Cottage on the whole was great. Kitchen was modern and had pretty much everything needed. The onky measuring jug leaked so could maybe do with getting a new one? But other than that perfect - washing machine was a god send for cleaning muddy trousers after walks!
Lounge was great - we didnt use the fire but tv & dvd all worked fine.
Bedroom was comfortable - we are used to tougher beds so a bit springy for us, but otherwise fine.
Bathroom was fine - took us a day or two to remember not to put dishwasher on whilst having a shower, otherwise the water pressure went right down. But once we figured that out it was okay. That was probably the only minus.
There did seem to be a little bit of damp on some walls in the lounge which didn't really affect anything but might be something to keep an eye on, and the drinking water was a little brown, but we tended to stick to the bottled water provided which was absolutely fine. Thanks for providing that!
The region was absolutely beautiful - went to Bute twice which was really easy and did some walks there. Head to the beaches where there are seals! Also went to Dunoon and Tighnabruich which was a lovely little village. Hiked up Ben More which we would recommend if the weather holds - great views of the region. Everyone really friendly. All in all a great location and would recommend the cottage when visiting the region!
Cosy cottage along Argyll's Secret Coast
Cosy former lodge cottage situated along Argyll's "Secret Coast". We are a family of four (adult children) and stayed over the New Year period of 2016/17. The cottage has been very nicely renovated recently and the kitchen is very well equipped (we ate in every meal)! The beds are very comfortable. On arrival the cottage was very clean and essentials such as milk had been provided.
The general area is very beautiful with a trip to Tighnabruaich and Kilbride Bay a must. Would defiantly recommend renting, with all contact with the owner being very quick and easy.
Lovely cottage, very clean, kitchen well equipped.
The area is quite and beautiful.
As recommendations I would say a second bathroom and an outdoor bench will be nice to have .
Many thanks for your kind review.
We've noted your comment about the garden bench - we do actually have one but to date we have only put it out in the warmer weather! But perhaps we should now have it out all year.
Sadly, a second bathroom isn't possible at the moment due to planning restrictions but we thank you for the feedback.
