Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Townsend - Bear's Den

The Bear's Den On Top Of Ole Smoky

On top of ole Smoky! Amazing! This 2 story cabin is above the rest! It is for the guests with some adventure at heart and those that are up for a mountain drive. The Bear's Den is newly renovated and there are many wonderful things about it! The atmosphere is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. (See NOTES BELOW for vehicle and road info in Winter and wet months.) The cabin has an open floor plan upstairs and down, with many log furniture pieces too. You'll take comfort in knowing this cabin is clean and sanitary as well as the jacuzzi and hot tub! Downstairs can sleep 4 (more if you are up for a cot), the cabin is open for family or a few friends with the living area, flat screen, a new queen sized pull out couch, a stacked rock fireplace, windows all around to bring in the outdoors, and a trundle bed, kitchen/dining and new large bath with tub shower combo, Jacuzzi and a large window to view the great outdoors. The front deck has a great view and a very nice hot tub for your privacy and enjoyment! The cabin is lightly decorated for each season and with a Christmas tree sometime after Thanksgiving to make your cabin home away from home.

Upstairs, the entire floor is a wonderful master suite with a king sized log canopy bed, its own sitting area, private deck with rockers to soak in the mountain air. A flat screen, vaulted ceiling, full bath and a stacked rock fireplace are also upstairs !

This cabin is perfect for families or just the two of you!!

Some special notes to make your stay as special as it should be are listed below!

CHECK IN MUST BE BEFORE DARK FROM NOVEMBER 1 THROUGH FEBRUARY 28. We are on Eastern Time, so please take that into consideration for planning your trip. It may be necessary to begin the next day instead of rushing to get to the cabin or arriving too late in the evening. The first time driving up the mountain is daunting for most guests in the dark and especially if it's raining. Planning is essential.

VEHICLE NOTES: The road is concrete all the way to the cabin and is about 1/2 mile long. Front wheel drive vehicles do well most all of the year, although hybrids may not pull the mountain. In winter all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive is needed in case of snow or rain. If the roads are dry, these features aren't needed. In wet or wintery weather, Pick ups most often need some weight in the back.

“Best Experience of our 11 Days was this Cabin”

5 of 5 starsReviewed June 22, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Title sez it all. Not a vista view but a gorgeous view through deep woods, across the valley, to mountains on the other side. Have camera ready at sunset! Cabin was immaculate, owners are very very nice people and attentive host. Newly installed washer and dryer really appreciated. Also stayed in another of owner's cabins for the 11 days with same opinion. Kim and John, bee seeing you

Wonderful romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

My initial impression of this cabin was that the photos do not do it justice. It is beautiful and very well maintained. The wood on the floors, walls, and ceilings gleam. The ample and adjustable lighting allows you to make it as bright or as cozy as you like. Loved the deck off of the master bedroom. Both fireplaces are gas and are on a timer making it easy, safe and clean to get some ambiance. The hot tub on the main deck was fantastic and the string lights around the deck provided just enough light when using the tub at night. Very comfortable place - the perfect size for a couple. The drive up to it can be a little intimidating until you figure it out, but then it's a piece of cake. I would certainly not hesitate to stay here again!

Owner's Response: You're spot on Angela! We appreciate you sharing your thoughts. (Yes, especially for folks from flat lands..the adventure of conquering the mountain is at hand or if someone isn't up for it, it's better to stay lower on the mountain. We want to be clear so guests are expecting a mind over mountain challenge. Come equipped with a sufficient vehicle too. Reading the details before booking is good. We want you to be thrilled with your stay..even the mountain adventure.) We hope you can come again sometime! :)

Beautiful, clean and spacious cabin

  • 5 of 5

The property is away from the chaos of Gatlinburg and Pidgeon Forge. We like the outdoors so was perfect for my husband and I. There are other cabins but we didn't see or hear anyone. We will return. It was exactly what we needed. Thanks Kimberly and John.

Relaxing, well accommodated, and wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Kimberly was extremely helpful in navigating me up the mountain for the initial drive to the cabin. The roads are steep in spots but after a couple times it was old hat. The cabin is very clean, roomy and has all the necessary supplies. It's isolated enough for a relaxing vacation in the woods. The wifi, cable and hot tub sealed the deal! I would definitely stay here again AND would recommend these property rentals to anyone!

This cabin is at the top of our small mountain. The climb up the mountain is generally very doable with anything from small vehicles with front wheel drive to SUV's. Pick ups that are light in the back end can spin tires if the pavement is wet. Please NOTE: In case of winter weather, travel in and out of the cabin may be limited. Also, check in is required before dark in winter or wet weather. When driving up the mountain, remember to swing out wide on all turns and maintain a moderate speed of about 15 mph.
We very much want Guests to enjoy their stay at the cabin while they take care of the property and not abuse it in any way. No smoking is allowed inside of the cabin and no unapproved pets are allowed. Guests are not to dump used charcoal anywhere; management is happy to collect it when needed. No parties or group get-togethers are to take place at the cabin that are not approved by owners in advance. Oils cannot be used in hot tubs or Jacuzzis and only small amounts of bubbles can be used in the Jacuzzi inside and none in the hot tub outside. The fireplace is gas log and nothing else is to be put into the fire. Applicable fines will apply as needed.
