Deer Hollow is ideal for a fun and relaxing mountain retreat perfect for a couples getaway or a family vacation! Our cabin sleeps 6 people comfortably with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a pullout sofa in the living room. The wrap around deck off the back of the cabin looks over the fire pit area, and comes equipped with a grill, hot tub and rocking chairs. The deck is also a perfect spot to watch the sunrise or the deer who are frequent visitors on our property.
Deer hollow was a cozy small cottage that made you feel part of the mountain. We were able to bring our 95 pound dog along with 2 boys and stayed comfortably in the cabin. We like that it is located on the mountain but had some flat areas that we were able to play with the dog and boys. We were able to have campfires and sit in the jacuzzi. We also did some puzzles and played board games. Thanks for the great memories!
A great getaway for a great a great price.
Clean with all the comforts of home. I was looking for quiet time and Deer Hollow served me well.
This was our first trip to the area, and after a grueling 10 hour drive up from central Florida, it was wonderful to discover this charming cabin nestled in the dense forest. The place was very welcoming, and everything we might need was available: the kitchen was well stocked, the linens and towels were ready, and even the hot tub was turned on and waiting for us. The interior of the cabin is well laid out and furnished very comfortably. The deck has a screened-in portion that's perfect for an early morning coffee or a late night drink. We also made use of the grill on the open part of the deck: although a bit on the small side, it was perfectly functional.
The area around the cabin is wooded and there are several hiking trails in the immediate vicinity: my 19-year old son and our fox terrier Gus particularly enjoyed the trail through the meadow across from Granny Hurder's hotel, which was great for playing with the ball and the Frisbee - Gus's favorite thing in the world! If you enjoy hiking, there are a few easy trails nearby that are quite scenic, but for a truly spectacular view I would recommend the climb to Blood Mountain, a portion of which is located along the Appalachian Trail (be prepared for some pretty steep ascents - it looks deceptively short on the map, but it takes a good couple of hours).
A few things to keep in mind: Weeks Creek is an unpaved road, and the mile-long drive to the house has some very steep portions which, along with its narrow width, make access to the house somewhat challenging. This was particularly disappointing for my son and me to find out, since we had been looking forward to doing a lot of road biking: it was impossible to get to the paved road without using a car. Once out on the highway, cycling is great, with some very scenic climbs and descents and relatively little traffic (this was mid-week in August).
Also, if you plan on cooking, it might be a good idea to bring your groceries with you: the nearest supermarket is quite a distance away by a pretty twisty local road.
Lastly, while the Internet connection was pretty reliable, there was no cell phone service (at least not from either T-Mobile or Verizon), and the cabin phone only allows local calls - something you may want to keep in mind.
Erin was prompt and responsive in our communications, and we are grateful for her making our stay so easy and comfortable.
Erin was quick to respond to any questions I had. The cabin was just what we were looking for. The binder with activities and maps of the area was a great tool. We enjoyed the hot tub. The kids enjoyed the board games and my 2 year old loved the Lincoln logs! We saw deer around the cabin within hours of arriving. We wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back again! I wouldn't change a thing about the cabin.
I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation @ DEER HOLLOW. Very quiet and secluded lots of sightseeing I enjoyed the SWINGING BRIDGE and WATERFALLS. Owners are very knowledgeable about the surrounding sites. The cabin was fully equipped very pleasant. THANK YOU . JUAN AND DOLORES LOPEZ
We took our teenaged granddaughters to Blue Ridge for a weekend. Deer Hollow was a terrific place to stay. It's a lovely cabin with all the comforts of home. We have rented cabins in the area for about 7 years. Sometimes the beds are uncomfortable and the furniture difficult to relax in. The beds and furniture at Deer Hollow were comfortable and there was plenty of comfortable seating in the living room and dining room. My only quibble would be with the hot tub, which was quite loud. We turned it off, and enjoyed breakfast on the screened porch. I have two other grandchildren to take to the mountains this summer, and am trying to work out our schedule so we can return to Deer Hollow. We would definitely rent this cabin again! Thank you to the Fergusons!
Deer Hollow is located just one mile from the Toccoa River! There are several places near our cabin where tubes and/or kayaks can be rented for floating on the river. Hiking is one of our favorite things to do while staying at Deer Hollow, and there are many different trails within minutes of the cabin. Downtown Blue Ridge is about a 30 minute drive from Deer Hollow, and there you will find many shops & restaurants.
