Private, well-appointed and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to the area, and after a grueling 10 hour drive up from central Florida, it was wonderful to discover this charming cabin nestled in the dense forest. The place was very welcoming, and everything we might need was available: the kitchen was well stocked, the linens and towels were ready, and even the hot tub was turned on and waiting for us. The interior of the cabin is well laid out and furnished very comfortably. The deck has a screened-in portion that's perfect for an early morning coffee or a late night drink. We also made use of the grill on the open part of the deck: although a bit on the small side, it was perfectly functional.

The area around the cabin is wooded and there are several hiking trails in the immediate vicinity: my 19-year old son and our fox terrier Gus particularly enjoyed the trail through the meadow across from Granny Hurder's hotel, which was great for playing with the ball and the Frisbee - Gus's favorite thing in the world! If you enjoy hiking, there are a few easy trails nearby that are quite scenic, but for a truly spectacular view I would recommend the climb to Blood Mountain, a portion of which is located along the Appalachian Trail (be prepared for some pretty steep ascents - it looks deceptively short on the map, but it takes a good couple of hours).

A few things to keep in mind: Weeks Creek is an unpaved road, and the mile-long drive to the house has some very steep portions which, along with its narrow width, make access to the house somewhat challenging. This was particularly disappointing for my son and me to find out, since we had been looking forward to doing a lot of road biking: it was impossible to get to the paved road without using a car. Once out on the highway, cycling is great, with some very scenic climbs and descents and relatively little traffic (this was mid-week in August).

Also, if you plan on cooking, it might be a good idea to bring your groceries with you: the nearest supermarket is quite a distance away by a pretty twisty local road.

Lastly, while the Internet connection was pretty reliable, there was no cell phone service (at least not from either T-Mobile or Verizon), and the cabin phone only allows local calls - something you may want to keep in mind.

Erin was prompt and responsive in our communications, and we are grateful for her making our stay so easy and comfortable.

We loved it! Felt like home.

Erin was quick to respond to any questions I had. The cabin was just what we were looking for. The binder with activities and maps of the area was a great tool. We enjoyed the hot tub. The kids enjoyed the board games and my 2 year old loved the Lincoln logs! We saw deer around the cabin within hours of arriving. We wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back again! I wouldn't change a thing about the cabin.

Very nice cabin in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We took our teenaged granddaughters to Blue Ridge for a weekend. Deer Hollow was a terrific place to stay. It's a lovely cabin with all the comforts of home. We have rented cabins in the area for about 7 years. Sometimes the beds are uncomfortable and the furniture difficult to relax in. The beds and furniture at Deer Hollow were comfortable and there was plenty of comfortable seating in the living room and dining room. My only quibble would be with the hot tub, which was quite loud. We turned it off, and enjoyed breakfast on the screened porch. I have two other grandchildren to take to the mountains this summer, and am trying to work out our schedule so we can return to Deer Hollow. We would definitely rent this cabin again! Thank you to the Fergusons!

Overall impression was it was just like the pictures online

  • 4 of 5

Impression of the property was very pleasant, there is a neighbor that can be seen from all areas of the deck. The hot tub was a little hard to figure out and we did add some water to totally cover the jets. When I started the grill outside a ball of fire stayed under the grill in between the grill and the propane tank which concerned me, I couldn't get it turned off fast enough. Turns out the hoses from the two controls both need replacing. Also couldn't get the tv to work very well-not may channels.

And couldn't light the pilot light on fireplace, so texted the number given and got a reply of read the label on the back of the fireplace. So I pulled all the wood out of the fireplace to read the label-started the pilot light-put all the wood back. Lighting pilot light instructions should be in the binder so all the wood doesn't have to be pulled out of the fireplace to read the directions for lighting the pilot light.

We did not dwell on it or get upset about it, our 12 year anniversary was about us being together making memories not about the material things that surrounded us.

GOD had blessed us with so much, and the ability to surprise my wife with the trip, getting child care, and the memories made over the weekend. I have nothing to complain about!!

I would recommend this cabin to anyone and would definitely stay there again in the future.

Thanks for the memories!!!!!

Car: necessary

Deer Hollow is located just one mile from the Toccoa River! There are several places near our cabin where tubes and/or kayaks can be rented for floating on the river. Hiking is one of our favorite things to do while staying at Deer Hollow, and there are many different trails within minutes of the cabin. Downtown Blue Ridge is about a 30 minute drive from Deer Hollow, and there you will find many shops & restaurants.
