Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Cameron - Sheep Mountain Cabin

Sheep Mountain Cabin is nestled on a 19 acre property just 30 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park in the upper reaches of the beautiful Madison River valley. The 360° wrap-around deck affords breathtaking views of the Henry's Lake Mountains to the east, the Madison Range to the north, and the Horn Mountains to the west. The south facing living room provides a dramatic, sweeping view of the Madison River Valley. At an elevation of 6333 ft. and located just 2 miles from the world famous Madison River, the cabin is the ultimate vacation base for outdoor enthusiasts!

All of the comforts of home are available to you during your vacation at Sheep Mountain Cabin. Your accomodations include satellite TV, WiFi DSL internet, a land phone line, and a washer and dryer. The lower level of the cabin has a full kitchen with Silestone countertops, new appliances, dishwasher, and circular sawn Douglas Fir floors. On the main level you will find the living room with astounding mountain and valley views, along with a cozy propane stone, circular sawn Douglas Fir floors, vaulted ceilings, and a ladder that leads to the spacious loft area. The cabin comfortably sleeps 8. On both the main and lower levels there is a bedroom with a queen bed and adjoining full bath. The loft area has two sleeping areas (one with a queen bed and one with twin beds) separated by a closet and 1/2 bath.

The vicinity of the cabin is rich in outdoor activities. Of course Yellowstone is the main attraction, but there are so many other wonderful things to do in the area. The Madison River has been called the top trout fishing river in all of North America. It consistently averages 2000 trout per mile with sizes ranging from 8 to 30 inches, and averaging 15 inches! It is no wonder it is officially listed as a blue ribbon trout fishery. The river starts in Yellowstone Park and then flows west, passing within a mile of the cabin at Raynolds Pass. After that, the river flows north and eventually joins the Missouri River.

Hiking opportunites abound in Yellowstone National Park as well as the immediate area of the cabin. The Henrys Lake Mountains to the east of the cabin contain the impressive Sheep Mountain (10,200 ft.), Coffin Mountain (9,967 ft.), and Targhee Peak (10,300 ft.). The Sheep Creek trailhead (elev. ~ 6400 ft.) starts just one mile from the cabin and climbs five miles before reaching Sheep Lake, at an elevation of about 10,000 ft. The trail continues through the Henrys Lake Mountains and connects with the Continental Divide Trail and with Mile Creek Trail, which eventually returns to the valley floor. The entire trail, from Sheep Creek trailhead to Mile Creek trailhead is about 25 miles. The area through the mountains is filled with bears, so come prepared.

Horseback riding is one of the most popular visitor experiences in the area. With rides available from one hour to overnight pack trips, there are options for everyone. There are so many other wonderful things to do in the area you will most likely run out of time before you can do them all!

Enjoyed our short stay immensely. Easy to follow directions to locate the property. Spotlessly clean. The guest book provided very detailed information on the functions and amenities in the house and facilities in the surrounding area. The security deposit was refunded the day after we checked out. I would enjoy staying here again and highly recommend it. My only suggestion would be more frequent garbage collection. I don't know if there is a scheduled pickup or if it was an oversight by the cleaning staff, but one of the two garbage cans was full from the previous guests trash. Had we stayed longer than 3 days we would have had bags of our trash in the house with no place to put them.

outstanding in every respect

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful vacation rental. Everything a visitor would need to feel at home is provided, and the cabin itself is beautifully located and maintained. The owner was helpful and available whenever needed from start to finish. Yellowstone is a half hour drive away, through lovely scenery. Groceries, restaurants, etc. are available there. We shopped before arrival, and were glad we did. That gave us more time to enjoy the cabin and the splendid mountain views all around. When in this area again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

A beautiful, comfortable rustic cabin with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is beautiful, clean, spacious and very comfortable. The wrap around porch was enjoyed in the early morning and in the evening. The kitchen was equipped with essentials needed for cooking meals. The grill also came in handy after a long day exploring Yellowstone. The owners were very helpful and always available to answer any questions we had prior to the visit. This was a great way to start our National Park experience. We loved being there and hated to leave. We would highly recommend this cabin to those who want a quiet place away from the crowds. It was a pleasure to drive "home" after a day in the park. Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us!!

Charming house with all of the conveniences of home in a gorgeous setting.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, adult children and I stayed at this location and were so sad to leave. We didn't even get to enjoy the comfortable and inviting gathering area because the beautiful view of the scenery from the wraparound deck was just too breathtakingly incredible to stay indoors. We weren't at the house very much, but when we were there, we were so comfortable and happy with the clean and charming environment. As I said, we were sad to leave this place that felt like home for a few days. The owner was very friendly and helpful when we accidentally turned off the pilot light as well. We would love to return one day, and I highly recommend this house to others, including family and friends.

Fantasic views

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for 4 days using it as our home base for Yellowstone. We loved it, especially sitting on the wrap around porch at night taking in the truly "big sky". Our nephew, a budding photographer, took incredible pictures of the Milky Way and in each AM we saw antelope nearby. The cabin was very well stocked with modern appliances yet still rustic in design and decor. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is its location. It is a good half hour from Yellowstone, but we knew that going in and I supposed in those parts, that is a "short" ride! Owner was very helpful, I would recommend.
