About the property

From our beautiful sanctuary, follow the Wild and Scenic Merced River 40 minutes to the Yosemite National Park entrance. The charmingly historic but vibrant gold mining town of Mariposa is only 6 miles to the west.

Constructed in 2014/ 2015, this custom owner built mountain chateau is situated on the edge of a wild canyon at the end of a mile and a half graded gravel road. The year-round Plumbar Creek runs through these 56 private acres of mixed evergreen and oak woodland. This property borders the 2000+ square mile Sierra National Forest. No neighbors in sight, very majestic and peaceful!

Featuring rustic styling with a modern design (and high speed DSL Wi-Fi!), this lovely home includes a spacious, well-designed kitchen and a warm, hydronic-heated slab floors. There are two private bedrooms on separate floors and two bathrooms. A cozy indoor balcony features another queen sized bed and also serves as an entertainment center. Spend time on the large, sustainably-harvested redwood deck. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of sunrise and sunset while you grill and dine here.

From this mountain getaway, you can easily explore Yosemite, Mariposa Gold Country, and the Wild and Scenic Merced River. Chose from so many activities: hike Yosemite's spectacular trails, take a leisurely bike ride or float on a raft through Yosemite Valley, try hiking, backpacking or fishing in Yosemite's lovely high country, appreciate a unique shopping experience in Yosemite or Mariposa. Enjoy birding, gold-panning, or rock climbing. Closer to home, explore the Sierra National Forest on foot, on your bike or on your horse! We were born and raised in the Yosemite area, and we can help you make your vacation unique and memorable.

About Fritz and Lindsey

We found this 56 acres in 2009 after an exhausting search to buy a sizable piece of land in the area we grew up in. In February 2015 we finally completed our self- built dream home.

Our summer time work of living in the wilderness of the high sierra allows us to share this special place with travellers

Fritz and Lindsey purchased this chateau / country house in 2015

Why Fritz and Lindsey chose Yosemite

This was the only property we could find that met our criteria of being very private, having year around flowing water and bordering National Forest public land while being close to the town of Mariposa AND the Merced River and Yosemite. It has turned out to be a perfect blend of privacy while having the convenience of heading to yosemite or the river for the day while still being a short drive to town for shopping or a night out at resturaunts, saloons or concerts

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Our backyard borders Sierra National Forest, one of the biggest in the state at over 200 square miles, this in turn borders Yosemite National Park and all the wilderness and National forests and Parks of the entire Sierra Nevada mountains. The possibilities and freedom are endless!

Yosemite! Beautiful NEW home amidst towering pines overlooking creek.Pool table!
average rating of 4.953846 based on 65 reviews

Beautiful home, great location, easy access to Yosemite.

  • 5 of 5

This house is secluded but has easy access to everything you might need. It is outfitted with all the necessities and was a perfect place to relax after long days of hiking. Do not try to use Waze or any other gps to find it. We did that coming in from Fresno and found ourselves on some sketchy back roads. Follow the directions the owners give you!!!

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for seclusion, this is it! The house is very nicely upgraded, clean and comfortable. Even the floors are heated! The road getting there is a long dirt road, so be sure to drive the right car. The decks are wonderful with a beautiful hammock on one, and another that is enclosed in screens to keep the bugs out. I can't speak for the other beds because we only used the master, but the master bed was comfy with nice linens. The WiFi worked great. Our cell phones (verizon) were spotty at best, but we didn't mind because it helped us really feel like we were able to disconnect from the world and relax. They do have a verizon network extender, so maybe cell phones usually work, we just didn't take the time to try very hard or to call the owners for help. Overall we had a wonderful stay.

An Inspirational Place

  • 5 of 5

Difficult to describe how much my family and I enjoyed our stay at Plumbar Creek House. Immaculately presented and well appointed but that's only half the story. The location in the midst of woodland generates a profound sense of calm and oneness and yet amenities at Midpines and Mariposa are only minutes away. It was a great place to return after each day of touring Yosemite, beating the crowds every day due to its proximity. We saw deer, mountain bluebirds and Stellar Jays from the balcony- a lovely adventure and we'd love to return.

Amazing house

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this house for 2 nights. The house is beautiful and well done. It met all of our needs and then some. There is great attention to detail. The only complaint is the location. The house is tucked away deep into a long and winding dirt road. Our first night of arrival is was raining heavily. Fortunately, we had rented an SUV with 4 x 4.

Owner's Response: David, thanks for the kind words about the house. I am sorry the driveway seemed long and winding when you showed up in the rain, I'm sure it seems much shorter in better conditions. ( it's actually 1 1/2 miles) Our house being tucked away in a remote and private setting is the thing people enjoy the most about it. You did arrive after floods this winter had damaged our road a bit. Although 4wd was never necessary, it's all fixed now and will seem much shorter should you come enjoy again. Thanks! Fritz

Tranquil Oasis Near Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding! My wife and two grown kids had a great time staying in this modern, spacious A-frame at the end of a rural road only a few minutes from Mariposa. Less than an hour away from Yosemite Valley, it's a perfect place to relax and bond after a day of hiking and being awed by some of the best scenery anywhere in the world. Spacious kitchen/common area made eating in a pleasure. Only sound are birds and a gurgling stream steps away, making for a wonderful soundtrack to cocktails or dinner on the spacious porch. Will most definitely return!

Quiet, secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed a trip to Yosemite while staying at The Plumbar house. The beautiful drive to the park entrance is about one hour, and we liked being able to come back to a lovely, quiet place to relax after hiking. The home is clean and well-appointed just as the photos show.
