Beautiful view from an old graceful villa but beware of the bugs.

  • 2 of 5

The view is phenomenal, the location is great and the house is an old beauty. Unfortunately we weren't able to sleep most of the time because the mosquitos in the house were terrible. We tried not to open doors or windows but it seemed like they were breeding indoors. We didn't have hot water in one of the bathrooms and the security of the property was confusing. We were told to lock up but one of the gates for the gated road didn't close so it didn't seem all that secure. We never felt unsafe, just unsure. The neighbors alarm went off for almost an entire day and my son's bed seemed to have been infested with fleas or some kind of biting insect. By the time we left it looked like he had chicken pox. Then the management company charged us 20 euro to check out early. Overall I would not recommend this villa.

This property truly has potential to be a 5 star. Currently, it is a 4 star. We loved the villa style, it feels like staying at your grandparents home. Very warm, inviting. Veronica was fantastic as a contact and the management company was easy reachable. I think the most amazing part of the stay...it is literally impossible to take a bad photo from the balcony! The view is exactly as it looks. We have limited Italian language, had to use our phrase book A LOT in town, but we never met anyone who was impatient or rude to us. The town was lovely, fresh vegetables! It literally takes 5 minutes to walk to town. We ate at Il Delfino. This was likely the BEST meal we had in all of our travels throughout Italy. We took a taxi to Palermo ( liberty district!!) and had amazing shopping and dinner. I think the only things that could use help at this villa: 1. the beds are very hard, seem old. 2. The pluming had a bit of issue.

3. Professional spray for mosquitos. It really became an ongoing problem sitting on the balcony. I realize it is near the water, and it may well be a losing battle. 4. More comfortable couch..sounds crazy, but it is nice to lay down and relax while watching TV. The upstairs room was fantastic according to my son ( I don't like climbing the amazing staircase)Overall, I would stay here again.

Sfeervolle villa aan het water

  • 5 of 5

Sheets in master bedroom were very old and course. The villa is neat enough, and staff were friendly.

  • 3 of 5

Overall, a nice villa. Some rooms rather musty smelling. If you opened windows for fresh air, the mosquitoes invaded. Challenging climb on spiral staircase to top bedroom. Fortunately, we had one couple willing to make the climb. Broken marble front steps were to be repaired during our visit, but no one ever came to fix them. Thought maybe that was a standard line told to all incoming visitors. Unleased dogs mutilated a young cat on the front drive of this villa, which we felt obliged to pick up and put in a bag. No sign of owners for either the dog or cat. Rather sad finish to a lovely walk to town for coffee and breakfast.... We still had a good time together at the villa.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, we are very sorry you found old sheets in the master bedroom, the owner has an agreement with a local laundry to provide always high quality bath towels and sheets. We will verify it with the cleaning company, probably there’s been a mistake in providing the sheets. Concerning the musty smell: the house has been closed for a few weeks before your arrival and the cleaning company after the cleaning maybe didn’t leave the windows open to let the fresh air come in. It can happen that some mosquitos come in the room, we really can’t avoid it… We are very sorry for the front step of the villa but really the worker wasn’t able to come to repair it. It’s in the owner’s interest to maintain the property in good conditions. I inform you that the broken step has been fixed the day after your departure. The spiral stepcase leading to the tower is an original stepcase belonging to a very valuable Art Nouveau villa of the first 1900s, another type of stepcase wouldn’t be suitable for this kind of building. Moreover the tower room, decorated with original mullioned windows and provided with ensuite bathroom, offers a beautiful view which validate the “sacrifice” to “climb” spiral but absolutely safe steps. I would like to point out that the staircase has been declared by the municipality of Palermo part of the city cultural heritage and can’t be modified or removed. We love pets and animals too and we are sorry you had such an ugly sight. But we can’t feel responsible for what happens in a public street. Thank you. Kind regards

Villa magnifique, très confortable, avec beaucoup de charme. La vue depuis la terrasse est extraordinaire et justifie à elle seule le choix cette maison. L'emplacement permet de très belles visites. Veronica nous a accueillis avec beaucoup de gentillesse.

Family holidays in Villa Donzelli (Sferracavallo)

  • 4 of 5

We (4 adults and 5 children (9-15 years old)) stayed in Villa Donzelli for 10 day in the end of October.

Francesco was a nice and competent contact in the booking phase while Veronica took perfect care of us during our stay - thank you very much for making our stay so convenient!

The villa is beautifully located offering both a spectacular view from the terrace as well as the direct access to the water (we enjoyed both a lot!).

We found the villa very well suited for our group and we particularly liked the fact that the bedrooms are well separated with each one having a dedicated bathroom nearby.

Considering the age of the property, the overall condition is considered to be good - everything was clean and well kept we did not particularly miss anything.

All in all, we can really recommend this place as well as the organisation through Francesco & Veronica.

Villa Donzelli is located in the gulf of Sferracavallo, an ancient seaside hamlet of Palermo. This area boasts a very good fame thanks to its excellent fish restaurants, placed along the coast, where eating fresh and delicious fish and shellfish.

Sferracavallo arises at the feet of Monte Gallo. It has a very lively centre characterized by the picturesque seaport. The hamlet has also a nice marina in the area of Barcarello, from which starting interesting and exciting trip to explore our amazing colourful sea. Thanks to its wonderful natural heritage, all this area is a natural protected reserve which extends from Isola delle Femmine to Capo Gallo.

The Natural Reserve of Capo Gallo is reachable through a coast path, on west part of the village. Monte Gallo is a promontory overlooking the sea, surmounted by a white tower called “Semaforo”.It is rich in caves, whose most famous is “Grotta dell’Olio”, a suggestive sea cavern with clear bright water and light sandy seabed brightened by rays of sunshine passing from some top fissures. This natural reserve has a varied flora and fauna: here you can see plants such as Brooms of Gasparrini, wild Orchids,Sicilian Sparviere and a lot of animals such as foxes, wild rabbits, peregrine falcons, real sea birds.

Palermo is a city of art, rich in history, architecture, culture and tradition. The older part of the city is full of sights: Piazza Politeama and the homonymous theatre; Massimo theatre, the biggest one in Italy and the third one in Europe; the Cathedral, the royal Palace and its Palatine Chapel; the 4 Canti; the famous street markets of Ballarò, Capo and Vucciria; the Puppet Museum, extremely important for our tradition; the Botanic garden which safeguards lots of important plant species.

Furthermore, Palermo is full of hidden attractions! You can find them in little squares, in the alleys and even in the underground!! Churches whose artistic value is inestimable, ancient palaces with wonderful architectural details, sanctuaries, statues, gardens, mysterious places such as Qanat or Beati Paoli’s itineraries. You will finally fall in love with it!
