About Brad and Amy Bethke

My wife and I live in the cities but we met (and got married!) in Crosslake. It remains our favorite place even though we have traveled all over the world. The closer we get to "the cabin," the stress melts away. We are able to relax at the house, explore the lakes, or go and meet friends at one of the many social places on the chain. We look forward to hearing how our guests enjoy their stays.

Brad and Amy Bethke purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Brad and Amy Bethke chose Brainerd Lakes

We grew up on the Whitefish Chain with our own families. It is the perfect place to relax and create lasting memories. This area is such a great place to be, we are only putting up this property for rental because we are purchasing another property on the chain.

What makes this cabin unique

Sunset views through towering Norway Pines can be enjoyed from the swing, patio or firepit is second to none. The call of the loons on the lake will lull you to sleep at night and gently wake you up in the morning.

Wonderful cabin in an awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

Many wonderful memories made at this cabin during our week long stay in July. This cabin has so much charm and plenty of room for all. The kids loved the guest cabin for watching movies during a rainy day and the adults enjoyed the porch for playing cards while watching the sun set. This cabin was set up perfectly for rainy days, hot days and if the mesquitos were out. We had many of bonfires, grill outs, pontoon rides through the channel to Crosslake. Lots of restaurants and shops to keep busy in the morning. Golf courses close by and a nice paved road in front for walks with the family. The lake is only a few steps away for swimming. Highly recommend for anyone!

Quaint Roomy Cabin, Great Value!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cabin. It was obvious that the owners had put a lot of love and effort into creating a place that was warm and inviting. We really liked how the cabin was decorated, especially some of the small touches, ie: the antler paper towel holder, the old sleds and skis on the wall of the porch, and the modern updates to the kitchen and guest bathroom were noticeable and wonderful! The washer & dryer was a bonus and came in handy mid-week. We chose the front bedroom because it had one whole wall of windows so we could wake up in the morning to a beautiful view of the lake. PS: We have never heard or seen so many loons!

The yard on the lakeside was probably our favorite place. The cabin is situated just above the lake, which made for great views. There are some stairs leading down to the dock, probably less than one flight, which we found totally manageable even carrying coolers and gear. There wasn't a designated beach area, and up near the shore, there were some small rocks, but just a little further out, the bottom was hard and sandy and the water was very clear. You could swim off the dock, or easily find a place on the lake to pull up and swim. The entire lake chain was sandy, and the water clarity was incredible! We looked forward to sitting in the swing overlooking the lake each night to watch the sunsets. The swing faced directly west and was hidden behind some big trees for privacy from the neighbors. We made use of the fire-pit almost every night we were there, and were able to grill and eat on the outdoor table on the stone patio one night. We biked into town and visited some of the antique shops, and had lunch one day at Andy’s Bar & Grill.

We spent a lot of time on the pontoon boat which was provided, even when it rained and the wind was blowing. We explored all the lakes (14 of them I think), pulled up on a sandbar for a picnic, did some fishing (we caught a 36-1/2” Northern), ate at the Wharf restaurant right on the water, and stopped at the Manhattan Beach Lodge for a visit to the Tiki Hut where the owner's friend Darryl mixed us up a couple of long island iced teas. We sipped our drinks while sitting in a couple of Adirondack chairs as we gazed out at the lake - so nice! Overall, we had a wonderful time. There were a few housekeeping issues that the owners helped us with when we arrived, and some others that we shared with them that they assure us will be taken care of in the very near future.

Great location! Great home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in August at this cabin, along with our two kids and their two friends. The location of the cabin was great. It is very close to town, and we were able to bike to get ice cream and go shopping. The lake itself is beautiful, and it seemed less busy than the other bigger lakes on the chain. The pontoon was a blast! We had so much fun exploring the other lakes, and found a big sand bar on one of the lakes to hang out at a few times. The kids had fun swimming at the cabin, and there is an area with chairs overlooking the swimming beach if you wanted to supervise the kids. Also, the dock itself has a large enough area at the end for parents to sit. The two older kids used the guest cabin, (which was great for everybody!) and could sit out there and watch their own movies at night. We would love to come back next year.

Great Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Our family (two couples, three kids) had a great time staying at this cabin! The cabin was as described, and comfortable for our group. The kids loved the guest house. They were able to have their own space to hang out and play games, etc. The lakeside was perfect for grilling out and having bonfires looking right over the lake. One benefit to this cabin was the porch overlooking the lake...when the weather wasn't good, we were able to hang out in the bar area, play board games, and still see the lake. The kids were able to swim right off the dock, although we took the pontoon out to the islands on Crosslake several times and swam there, too. The pontoon was great to have available, was large enough to accommodate the group, and easy to drive. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to escape the cities for a week!

Very, very disappointing cabin!

  • 1 of 5

This rental fell short in so many ways in accommodating our party of 8. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an unpleasant odor that, despite burning scented candles, remained throughout our stay. We discovered at bedtime that the queen pullout sofa was broken and unusable and the guest cabin was too damp and moldy smelling to sleep or use. If you're still considering renting, be prepared to:

Spend money buying paper plates

and styrofoam coffe cups because

there are only six chipped dinner

plates and four coffee mugs.

Spend money on aluminum foil

pans because there is one single,

solitary cookie sheet, no muffin

tins, no 9x13 pans, no pizza pans,

Spend money on kitchen towels

because there was only one

threadbare towel.

Use paper plates for cutting

because there are no cutting

Drink wine out of margarita glasses.

Hang plastic grocery bags from

all the door knobs because there

are no wastebaskets.

Bring bath mats unless you like to

step on wet floors after you shower.

Spend time cleaning the pontoon

because the seats are filthy.

And then there was the inquiry on my part asking the owner the condition of the swimming beach that there were a "few weeds". It was basically nothing but weeds. Obviously, the owners are not thoughtful of the renters. Very, very disappointing to say the least!

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback from your stay at our home. We were sorry to hear it did not meet your expectations. We have taken this as an opportunity to improve our property for future guests, as their comfort is our utmost concern. We want our guests to enjoy our home, and return for another stay in the future. We have replenished the stock of dishes in the kitchen. Often times with rentals, dishes get broken/thrown/taken, and our cleaning staff may not be aware of it. It was important for us to know it was time to replace some of these missing items. We have added two garbage cans in addition to the two that were there during your stay. As for the pontoon, we hope that our guests will still see the benefit of using our pontoon for free during their stay, although it is susceptible to the outdoor elements and may need to be wiped down. Again, thank you for your feedback, as we will continue to make every effort to provide our guests with a clean and comfortable stay at our home.

Awesome vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week in this lake home in June, 2016. The home is comfortable and in a great location on the Whitefish chain. Daggett Lake is very quiet and not crowded like the big lakes it connects to. It was fun to sit by the fire pit and watch water skiers and others enjoying the lake. The pontoon boat was huge plus to this rental. The owners were very helpful and the place was clean and as described in the listing. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home to our friends and relatives.
