The property is very well maintained and has a country cabin charm. Relaxing getaway! Everything you need is in the cabin, well stocked kitchen, extra blankets and plenty of wood for the wood burning stove. The farm animals and keepers are hardly noticable. Qick 40 minute drive to Durango for shopping and local sights. We very much enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful escape in the woods of Bayfield. My husband & I arrived with a warm welcome from the owners. Fresh cut flowers from the garden in a vase on the bar. Very lovely Rustic Barn Loft Apartment and tastefully decorated. Very clean and well maintained. Comfy bed and soft linens. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you'll need to prepare meals. A few food items, coffee, staple items, spices and even chicken breasts & ice cream ready for us to use. If you love your Keurig coffee pot, they have one and a regular one too. Super cool bathroom with hand cut stone shower surround, vintage dresser made into a vanity with a copper sink inset. Windows on every wall to see the beautiful scenery this place has to offer. Loved the mud room downstairs for the brief rainy days we had. For those chilly nights we used the potbelly stove. It heated the entire loft. Loved the ambiance. Plenty of good books to read if you are a reader. Lots of Movies to watch. Really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the animals and playing cards. Soaked in the hot tub a few nights. It's completely private and a great place to star gaze. The twice daily farm duties that went on were never a bother.
The barn is nestled in the woods on a private road on a working farm. We met the 2 Beefalo's who were very vocal when it was time to eat. We enjoyed it thouroughly!! The Beefalo's would run and play with each other and but heads. They are 1 & 2 years old. They have 4 magnificent horses who also occasionally put on a show for us. The owners have 3 dogs that are affectionate and curious. Never bothersome. The grounds are absolutely stunning! Gorgeous flowers in the garden of several varieties. Grapevines with tasty looking grapes on them. Deer everywhere. Wild turkey. This property is off the beaten path, but close to everything you'll need and a short drive to Durango. Maps, books and booklets on Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride among others were available to make your day trip plans. Because Bayfield is so centrally located, you can go anywhere. The owners did their best to make us comfortable and were available for any problems or questions as they live near by. We are already planning a trip back next year to include this humble abode.
We never encountered any problems. No complaints. Fully satisfied and completely happy with our choice to stay at the barn loft. A big Thank You to Gary & Lauretta! This trip made our 50th Birthdays and our 33rd anniversary so very special!
The stay at the cattle farm was a highlight of our trip. It was only about a half hour from the Durango/Silverton train, and a beautiful drive to the farm. The apartment, in the loft of an actual working barn, was clean and very rustic. The owners, who made an effort to see us during our visit, even left us a bottle of wine made from their own little vineyard. If you need a fun get away, stay at this cattle ranch! We had a great time! Well appointed accommodations! Nice hot tub and great shower. Very cozy. Gorgeous scenery. Very accommodating and friendly owners.
What a beautiful, peaceful place! Our daughter moved to the area recently and we wanted a place to stay close to hers. Little did we know we would find a slice of paradise at the Coal Basin Cattle Company! We had everything we needed to grill burgers and make a big breakfast with our kids as well as a cozy wood stove and comfortable bed. We can't wait go back. Thank you Gary and Lauretta!
What a place! We had a great time. The quite and stars were so relaxing. Even with the livestock so close, there is no smell. Unless there is something going on with the animals (birth, butcher) they really just add to the peaceful setting. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll meet, and try their best to respect that you are on vacation, while you are staying above their working ranch. We were dropping our son off at college in Durango, and we will definitely look at this place again when we come back to visit.
