We moved to Wilmington to raise our two boys in a good environment. Tom is a fly fisherman so that is why we choose to be near the West Branch AuSable River. Whiteface Mountain turned out to be a bonus. Our boys are now grown and Tom has the Two Fly Shop here in town.
Rarilee Conway purchased this cabin in 2014
My son and I built the cordwood cabin a year after taking a workshop to learn how to do it. Our goal was to spend time together learning a life skill and to build a small home that was environmentally conscious.
Staying in the cordwood is a unique experience. It is peaceful, interesting, inspiring and somewhat magical.
This place is amazing and welcoming. It's quiet with some crows outside for company and the wind running through the flowers and grass for a lullaby of peace. The well-designed Cordwood house smelled like a wood forest! Plenty of dishes, sleep stuff and amenities for all 3 of us. Very nice intimate touches by the owners as well. Some CDs are there to entertain while enjoying the house. I highly recommend and hope I get to come back!
Rarilee and Tom are amazing hosts! They know just how to make someones stay as comfortable as possible. The cabin was clean, and staying in touch with them was very easy! They provide kitchenware, linens, soap, and even fresh eggs! There were brochures in case you needed a few idea on what to do, hammocks to lounge in outside, and there was just an overall positive, eclectic vibe! You could tell our stay was important to them. We will be returning for future stays to really enjoy the beautiful Adirondacks. The cabin is perfect for couples, a small family, or even a few friends. you will not be dissapointed booking this cabin!!
This is the second time my husband stayed at the cabin. Last year I treated him to a guys weekend away with his brother and he loved it so we came up as a family for a quick getaway after Thanksgiving. We had all these possibilities in mind for getting into town or hiking but the cabin was so charming and cozy and warm that we just stayed put! It was a lovely, inviting place to just relax and unwind! We played games, read, sat by the fire inside and built a fire outside in the evening. Cooking was perfectly easy as the little kitchen was well-equipped! Sleeping was very comfortable for all, the bathroom is beautiful (composting toilet is super easy and amazingly NEVER smelled at all) and the place was immaculate too! The owners are very accommodating. I have a feeling we will be back!
This place is well kept up and clean, with all the necessary amenities, even fresh eggs in the fridge upon arrival. This is my "go to" place when I stay up in the dacks.
The cord house was magical...the light coming through the colored bottles, the unique touches, the design. It had all the comforts needed. Loved the wolves howling in the distance.
Stayed here for one night on our way home from Mont-Tremblant to get a little ADK fix. Great cabin with all the comforts of home and comfortable temperature when it got hot outside. Love all the "green" features. Adk chairs and hammock in the back for relaxing and enjoying a nice quiet view of the woods behind. The Wildlife Refuge across the street was an extra bonus that is better than any zoo I have been too. I have been coming to this area for years and never knew about it. The bike lane on the road provides gateway to all the road cycling and mountain biking in the area. Short drive to Wilmington for groceries and food. Will definitely be back again.
Very good place to stay. The description / layout / pictures were same as the house.
Location - Good. Lake and main street were nearby. Privately isolated but not scary.
Cleanliness - Very neat and nicely organised.
Amenities - A bit of surprised to see such a small place can accommodate so much. Closet / washer-dryer might be something which anyone will like to have for a long stay. But once you enter the place, you will not miss those things.
Owner's communication - Good. Always in touch. The instructions cards in the house were also clear and helpful.
Bonus point: the place recycles a lot of waste. I'm always for recycling. Also, enjoy the fresh cage-free eggs that owners left us in the refrigerator. :)
Tips: No cell coverage. Please rely on the high-speed wi-fi available at the place. you might want to download the google maps for offline use if you are relying heavily on that.
Ski or mountain bike at Whiteface Mountain, drive the Memorial Highway to the top of Whiteface Mountain, tour Lake Placid, Santa's Worshop, High Falls Gorge, visit Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center, hike the High Peaks, fish or kayak the West Branch AuSable River.
