About Undine Achilles-Day
I live with my husband and sons in beautiful Argyll, and I love it. The holiday houses are on the beautiful Ardrhu Estate, Onich, between Fort William and Glen Coe in the Highlands of Scotland. I have been working for many years as a biologist but have started my own business in February 2016. I love crafts e.g sewing, woodwork, furniture up-cycling, art, gardening and meeting people. I greatly enjoy to spend time in Ardrhu, the relaxation, the peace, the countryside are just food for the soul. contact: 0044 (0)7563 500196
Undine Achilles-Day purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Undine Achilles-Day chose Onich
For me this cottage is perfectly situated. It is away from busy roads and has fantastic views across Loch Linnhe and the mountains beyond. It is perfectly situated to discover the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and all the outdoor activities available everywhere around Ardrhu. The cottage is also perfect for just to "get away from it all", to relax, to recuperate, to quieten the mind etc. We enjoy to stay in the cottage ourselves on occasion and never get enough of the weathers going by. My husband and I have refurbished this property to a very high standard. It benefits from central heating and a wood burning stove which provides a wonderful cosiness in the cooler evenings. From the sitting room you have a fantastic view towards Loch Linnhe and the mountains beyond. In summer when the sun is shining onto the decking its the perfect location to have breakfast or dinner outside. or why not take a cup of tea and stroll down to the shore to sit on a rock and relax close to the sea and let the wind and weather ruffle your hair for a while. The cottage has been fitted with a new kitchen incl. washing machine, fridge freezer and dishwasher. The bathroom has been completely renovated and is stylish and practical. In general, the cottage is very unique and homely, the decor has been carefully chosen, and it provides a calming and relaxing ambient. It is suitable in all seasons, and it is wonderful sitting on the sofa and watching the "weather" going by.
What makes this Cottage unique
Everyone who visited Ardrhu is blown away by the fantastic setting. There are only few places left which provide you with so much peace, wilderness and beauty. The cottage for me is a perfect setting for all sorts of activities, whether you like to relax or just go out for adventures. Right between the Nevis and Glencoe mountain range it provides all year activities incl. winter sports. The many lochs and the sea in the area give plenty of opportunity for water sports, including fishing, snorkeling, diving or sailing. ... and can there be a better activity after a long day out to come home to a fire in the wood burning stove? This cottage is my "getting away" and my "soul searching" and my "recuperation" and the perfect place to explore this beautiful area with its many exciting attractions. It is centrally located for Glen Coe and Ben Nevis range if you enjoy hiking or winter sporting!

Perfect place to stay in The Highlands
We absolutely loved Driftwood Cottage. It is perfectly located for so many adventures. We were on a work trip mapping Harry Potter locations across the UK and this was an ideal base camp for our Highlands trek. We visited Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, Glenfinnan Viaduct, where the Hogwarts Express passes through, the gorgeous mountains of Glencoe where much of Prisoner of Azkaban was filmed. Also Fort William is very close and there are lovely shops and a one of the oldest whisky distilleries, Ben Nevis, at the base of Ben Bevis which is the highest peak in the British Isles.
The cottage itself is warm, cozy, filled with all the amenities you need including a washer which was a huge help after two weeks on the road. There's a full kitchen which we took full advantage of saving us so much money. There are three lovely bedrooms. We slept so well on the comfortable beds. It was the best sleep we had the whole trip. The view of the Loch and Mountains is incredible. When you wake up you wont believe where you are it is like a little piece of heaven. There is a TV and, games, books etc, wifi. Literally everything you need.
Our hostess Undine was wonderful checking on us when we arrived and were leaving to make sure we had all we need. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Driftwood Cottage. If you are diligently researching the perfect place to stay, as I do, stop here. You've found it.
Awww...thank you so much Sarah!
Hope you stop by again one day.
I received this review on Valentine’s Day! <3 It made my day that you had such a good time in my cottage and our beautiful surroundings. Best wishes to you.
A great well equipped cottage in an excellent location
We had an excellent week's stay in this lovely cottage. The cottage itself is very well appointed and very comfortable. In terms of location it is well situated just a short drive away from Glencoe and Fort William in a very quiet area on the outskirts of Onich.
Coincidentally Undine and John were at the cottage when we arrived and were very welcoming and had a number of great suggestions for things to do over the week.
Highlights of our trip included a trip on the Jacobite Express steam train (Hogwarts Express), a nice little hike to Steall falls and a beautiful drive to Kilchurn Castle and then down Glen Etive.
It was a wonderful holiday.
Absolutely love this place.
The cottage is fantastic. Definitely home from home. We found it exceptionally clean and had everything that we needed. Myself and partner stayed 9th-11th Dec. The location is stunning and peaceful. I will definitely return to Driftwood in the future. Thank you undine for a perfect stay and the Xmas tree was a lovely touch. Thank you. X
Lovely cottage in a beautiful position. Well equipped and immaculate.
We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Lovely quiet position with beautiful views. The cottage was very well equipped. Fifteen minutes from Fort William and plenty of things to do for all ages. It was ideal if you take your pet as there was very little traffic near the cottage and no main road. We highly recommend Driftwood Cottage.
Fantastic property in great location.
Driftwood cottage is a wonderful place to stay. It's spacious, well equipped & surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Beautiful property. Good layout, well equiped
Lovely cottage, owners made us feel welcome. Very well equipped cottage in excellent location. Good long dog walks from doorstep, beautiful views in relaxing setting with good amenities close by.
Please be aware Ardrhu is extremely rural. There are no shops or banks or anything else on site.
Shops, banks, doctors etc. can be found in nearby Ballachulish or Fort William.
