Overview

About the property

Cosy barn in peaceful location with enclosed garden, dog friendly

Swallow Barn is a converted barn adjacent to our very special 16th century timber framed house. We have converted the barn to a high specification, taking into account our favourite bits of all the holiday lets we have stayed in over the years. We aim to create a sense of cosiness without loss of practicality. The barn affords lovely views over the field and is light and airy. In winter months the wood burner adds a welcoming glow to curl up with.

Swallow Barn's unique feature is that it is in a very special position overlooking open fields. It has its' own garden which is a haven for wildlife. We commonly see a variety of birds and deer walk through our meadow.

We are big dog lovers and own 2 rescue dogs, we are happy to accept well behaved dogs. We have a cat who is dog friendly to dogs who know how to treat him!

Dog guests will be able to share the use of our 2acre field behind the house. Please note owners will need to bring their own dog bed and bedding.

About Rosie at Swallow Barn

I live in rural Suffolk surrounded by fields and wildlife. I am passionate about dogs and enjoy walking, painting and drawing.

Rosie at Swallow Barn purchased this barn in 2012

Why Rosie at Swallow Barn chose Bury St Edmunds

Thank you for your interest in Swallow Barn situated in rural Suffolk. A one bedroom holiday let for 2 people (and children < 24 months), designed for real country lovers and those seeking a much needed retreat from the pressures of daily life.

Swallow Barn is an individual, listed barn in the heart of the Suffolk countryside in the village of Wyverstone. We are based approximately 20 mins from the historic town of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket with good rail links to London and other major cities. The impressive Suffolk coastline is also only an hour's drive away. There is a village shop and pub a 5 minute drive away or a 15 minute walk.

Having stayed at many a holiday let over the years, we know how hard it can be to find decent accommodation that combines a sense of cosiness with practicality. We have therefore tried to include all our favourite things about holiday lets into just one place. Imagine lying in a blissfully comfortable bed whilst looking up at the stars or, sitting in a garden overlooking a peaceful meadow, watching the swallows duck and dive in the summer months, truly magical.

Being dog lovers with a history of taking rescues, we have never felt comfortable with leaving them behind when we go on holiday. For this reason we are happy to welcome well behaved canine friends to the barn. The barn comes with its own enclosed garden and guests can also enjoy shared access to our field overlooking the property which is perfect for ball games.

We look forward to welcoming you to this special place.

What makes this barn unique

Peace and quiet, rural location. Private entrance and enclosed garden. Guests will enjoy use of our 2 acre field and many available dog walks surrounding the property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful holiday accommodation with everything you could possible need. Warm and cosy with the lovely log burner and lovely touch with the lavender on the towels. Overall a fantastic break. We would definitely come again.

Bloody lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived at swallow barn to a very warm welcome from the lovely rosie!

Soya milk for us (we are vegan), and treats for. Amber our dog! The cottage was scrupulously clean, and very homely and cosy. Fluffy towels, gorgeously comfy bed and everything else needed for a comfortable stay.

The garden of swallow barn was also lovely. A gate led to more garden which led to a.meadow.....absolutely gorgeous.

We loved.every second of our time.at swallow barn. We are already planning our next stay.

Perfect relaxing retreat for people & pooches!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Swallow Barn for a week in August and we absolutely loved it! The property was spotless, welcoming and beautifully decorated. It was easily the most dog-friendly place we've ever stayed, with access to the garden, paddock and meadows beyond for our German Shepherd Amber to explore! Rosie & Richard had thought of everything, such as dog treats, toys and even a cosy blanket so Amber could snuggle up on the sofa with us (Perfect for a German Shepherd who believes she is a lap dog) There are good local amenities nearby, especially The Bull pub which is a 15-20 minute walk away and serves nice food.

I'd definitely recommend Swallow Barn to anyone, anyone looking for a relaxing, dog-friendly break in Suffolk - Rosie & Richard will be ready with a very warm welcome!

Perfect barn conversion, so clean, cosy and very dog friendly

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful couple of days exploring Suffolk and would highly recommend Swallow Barn. There are lots of footpaths and local places to explore and beautiful villages and towns very close by. If you want a quiet, clean, very cosy, 'get away from it all' place to stay then this is it and it is so perfect for dogs too. Our dog loved it, safe garden for her to play in and Rosie and Richard thought of everything i.e. dog tag with their details on, towel for wiping wet feet, poo bags, treats and balls.

Definitely a 5 star plus and we would love to come back next year.
