The house is located within the olive trees of a prestigious historical villa park. Made in the old site of Ancient Avola. The house is surrounded by ancient olive trees planted on terraces made entirely of dry stone walls. Of the property you can admire the entire south-eastern coast of Sicily, up to the extreme point of Capo Passero. In the evening you can also see the unmistakable lighthouse. The house is easily accessible from the town of Avola

Simple but comfortable, and includes WiFi and a washing machine. Hillside position and views great.
Our stay was made particularly memorable by the delightful family who own the property. They could not have been more friendly, helpful and generous. However, you will need a little Italian or French to communicate. We particularly valued their advice and recommendations for the area.
The property is sited at Avola Antiqua which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1694 with only a portion of the old town wall left standing within the property. It is remotely situated 5km up a windy road which needs careful driving but is otherwise okay. The site overlooks the coast with superb views to be enjoyed on the terrace with a glass of wine! It is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
New Avola was rather ordinary but Syracuse, Taormina, Noto, Modica and Ragusa are within easy driving distance and well worth visiting. A longer drive brings you to the Greek temples at Agrigento and the Roman villa at Piazza Armerina. Both world class historical sites. The surrounding countryside is wonderful.
There are a few decent restaurants by the beach at Avola, but we found that the other towns in the area provided more choice and some great food.
There is a decent supermarket within a 10 minute drive and the fortnightly Thursday market in Avola is good fun.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would warmly recommend it as an ideal location for independently exploring southern Sicily.
