About the property

7 bedroom peaceful private villa with heated pool and spectacular views

This characterful historic silk farm, with its far-reaching views across the Rhône valley, has been immaculately and elegantly renovated to provide an exquisite holiday villa, ideal for a group of families or friends looking for relaxation in a beautiful setting. The view and seductively peaceful atmosphere of the house cannot be described - we can only say that none of our guests ever want to leave, and many return.

The heated saltwater swimming pool overlooks those stunning views, and the layout of the property includes numerous terraces, enclosed courtyard, balcony and boules area so that everyone has space to relax or play. With seven bedrooms and four bathrooms (7 WCs) the property accommodates up to 17 people, including a self-contained, adjoining 'apartment' with its own kitchen and lounge. The spacious Bulthaup kitchen in the main house was designed for communal cooking and dining and contains all the high-end appliances you could wish for. Children can enjoy the bunk bedroom (sleeps 5), children's 'den', table tennis in the courtyard, any number of outdoor games on the generous boules terrace - and of course the 11 x 5m pool.

The house is situated on the edge of the Ardêche, 7km from Montélimar and within easy reach of world class vineyards, lavender fields, olive groves and peach tree farms. Guests who can manage to tear themselves away from the seductive comfort of the house can discover roman and medieval villages, hike spectacular trails, canoe through the Ardêche gorges, go wine-tasting or visit the ancient cities of Orange, Avignon and Arles.

Guests are provided with a welcome basket, all bedlinen, towels, pool towels, wifi, dvd player and dvd library, children's toys, infant beds and high chairs, bikes, indoor and outdoor games and gift bags of nougat. A local contact person is available during the stay and services such as in-house chef, babysitting, airport pick-ups and access to tennis courts can be arranged. The owners, together with their housekeeper, have put an amazing amount of personal thought into ensuring your comfort and enjoyment.

In summary, if you are looking for somewhere to make a family reunion or particular occasion unforgettably special - or for the most rejuvenating holiday possible, this is the place. You can be confident that everyone in your party will thank you!

About The Owner

Our two families have always enjoyed holidaying together and after many years of dreaming, bought this property to have somewhere to spend time together and let our children grow up knowing and appreciating this lovely part of France. With a talented high-end designer among us, we have developed incredibly high standards when it comes to interior & exterior design, comfort and cleanliness. We love traveling all over the world, but this is by far the place we can relax and enjoy most.

The Owner purchased this villa in 2007

Why The Owner chose Rochemaure

The view, the view, the view.... and the potential of this rambling farmhouse with its thick stone walls and rich local history. The large mulberry tree and brick ovens tell its story as a silk farm, with each part of the building added on by the next generation for different farming uses.

We like projects - and this one turned out to be a five-year renovation in which we invested everything we had. We love how friendly the local people are as they don't encounter too many tourists, yet well-known tourist attractions are still within easy reach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Well safely back from a wonderful holiday but now watching the rain and wind cause havoc in the garden, a far cry from the sun of the Ardeche. You have a beautiful house and it has clearly been restored with a great deal of love and thought. The pool was a lovely temperature and we found plenty to keep us amused. Everything was beautifully presented and the John Lewis towels wonderfully soft - the chocolates and lavender bags were a lovely gift and the welcome basket very welcoming.

Thank you again for a wonderful holiday.

Didn't want to leave...

  • 5 of 5

Despite repeat visits, I had forgotten how incredible this place is. We were welcomed immediately by the sounds of birdsong and the smell of wild herbs - and had to stop and breathe deeply for a few minutes to take in the view. Instant peace! This was the first time for my companions and the oohs & aahs that resounded as we walked around the house were very gratifying! Not quite enough time spent reading on the terrace, swimming in the pool (a very pleasant 23 degrees) or lounging in the lounge - we're already planning our return!

Excellent facilities, modern, awesome views

  • 5 of 5

The Farmhouse provides excellent holiday accommodation for large and small groups. Situated in a very picturesque countryside, near historical villages and towns, it offers opportunities to explore the magnificent Ardeche and the Rhone Valley for their history - and vineyards. Views of the Alps are absolutely stunning.

There were sixteen of us and yet the layout of the House allowed privacy if wanted, the outdoor pool and the dining room providing natural meeting points.

It is amazing how an old farmhouse could have been transformed into such an attractive and modern villa and retaining a great deal of the original character.

Fully recommended!

There is not so much to say when you stay at perfect place. Accommodation is one of the best we stayed - and we are travelling a lot. Believe us. The house is top of the top. The surroundings are worth of your time and the view from the place speaks much more that my words. We (17 persons) enjoyed the welcome of the Farm, the atmosphere and the cosiness, swimming pool and the interior yard. There's so much to see around but The Old Silk Farm does not let you - to good to stay not wandering around ;)

Thanks for the owners for creating such a cosy atmosphere.

Respect !

Owner's Response: What wonderful comments - thank you! We've put a lot into making The Old Silk Farm the best possible home for a 'holiday retreat', but you're right - the view just tops everything! Delighted you enjoyed your time there so much - we look forward to welcoming you back one day, and hopefully to tear yourselves away for a bit of tennis next time.... ;)

A truly stunning property !!

  • 5 of 5

Breathtaking from the moment we arrived to the day we left. Even before we entered the house the stunning views across the valley was the tonic to instantly relax us and set us up for a wonderful holiday. The house is a beautiful mixture of the original silk farm and contemporary luxury. It has every possible comfort you could need, from a fantastic kitchen that was a pleasure to use, lavish bedrooms and a stylish drawing room that we would relax in in the evenings.

In fact it was such a gorgeous home it became a challenge to drag ourselves away from the house and pool each day!

When we did venture out we found some beautiful places to visit. We all loved the canoeing and swimming in the Ardeche gorge.

We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Thank you for making our family holiday special and we definitely intend to book again.

Stunningly renovated farm with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

A really beautifully renovated farmhouse with beautiful views out over surrounding countryside. We had a fantastic stay at the end of summer with the family - long days lazing around the pool and then eating outside watching the sun go down. Well positioning for day trips including swimming in Labeaume. A fabulous house for a holiday.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review! We're so glad you were able to make the most of the sunshine enjoying the pool and outdoor terraces - and got out to explore too. There are so many hidden treasures in the Ardêche and Drôme! Hope to welcome you back again - summer or winter... Best wishes. Juliet.

Wonderfully luxurious & spacious house

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 16, raging from 6 to 70 years old spent a wonderful week together. There was plenty of room for each family group to have their own space as well as beautifully designed and decorated communal areas for us to eat and spend time together.

The photographs of the property don't do it justice - each room and view is even more stunning in reality. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and it is best equipped house (the kitchen and pool room deserve particular mentions) any of us had ever stayed in.

We were warmly welcomed on arrival and given a comprehensive tour of the property which made the stay very relaxing.

The owners recommended Verane, a local chef, and they were spot on as she provided a superb meal for us all.

I would highly recommend The Old Silk Farm and would love to return one day.

This is a beautiful and peaceful rural getaway, not overcrowded with tourists. Yet, due to its location on the edge of the Ardêche and within easy access of the A7 motorway, the whole of Provence and the Rhône-Alpes are accessible. The town of Montélimar, known for the confectionary nougat, has all the urban conveniences you might need and is only 7km away.

Our guests have enjoyed: walking & hiking, kayaking through the Ardêche gorge, swimming in rivers and lakes, wine tasting at vineyards, viewing ancient villages and roman remains, mountain-biking, theatres and museums, sampling restaurants and cafés, produce and craft markets.

We can help you find what you want to experience and provide help with arranging extra services such as babysitting, airport rides, in-house chef service - even French lessons!
