About Susan Mead
Renovating historic houses has been a life long adult passion. I began doing this when I was 19 years old and have continued to do so throughout my life . This is a family home for my family and we share it for a limit period time during the wonderful summer months in Sag Harbor. I am an avid paddle boarder and the Cove is about 800 feet away which will lead you to the exquisite Sag Harbor Wharf.
Susan Mead purchased this House in 2009
Why Susan Mead chose Sag Harbor
This is a wonderful house in a wonderful Village . It is comfortable, beautiful and a nice 4-6 block walk to the shops and restaurants of Sag Harbor. The fabulous screened in back porch is enjoyed by all visitors.
What makes this House unique

November weekend to remember
We consider ourselves very lucky to spend a weekend at Susan’s property. The house was beyond our expectations. It successfully combines historic feel, tasteful decor with modern amenities and makes one’s stay enjoyable and memorable. Huge screened porch overlooks private backyard and is probably perfect in summer months. Kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you need to prepare a meal and have a candlelight supper in elegant dining room. If you are not up to cooking, the house is conveniently located within short stroll to the pleasant town center with boutiques and restaurants. Cavaniola Gourmet is the must stop for cheese lovers.
Renting and checking in/out process was very easy. All emails were answered promptly.
The whole communication was very pleasant.
Lovely stay! Thank you.
A whaling captain's home, lovingly restored.
When our wonderful host Susan told me she had restored 30 homes in her lifetime, the first at the age of 19, I understood why Capt. Tooker's home was both so comfortable, and so full of charm. Susan really knows how to find properties with character, and then gives them the love and modern updates they need.
The location is also great! Right on Main Street, a short walk from the heart of the historic village of Sag Harbor, or to all the best local restaurants. Short drive or bike ride to Long Beach or Haven's Beach. Great start for any foot or bike explorations. Nearby paddle board access to the Sag Harbor cove.
Best of all, Susan is a very practical, flexible hostess. We needed a few special arrangements to make everything work out. Susan was more than happy to find a way to make it all good. And it was great!
If you like historic charm and comfort, easy access to everything local and fun, the Captain's house is the place for you.
Thank you . You all are great guests .
A very memorable and inviting house located in a most wonderful village.
I really enjoyed staying at the Captain's house. The house is truly beautiful, and its beauty exists on so many levels. Sag Harbor is a historical village, it was an important whaling port for hundreds of years, and you can walk down its streets and feel the past intersecting with the present and this is certainly true of the Captain's house.
The owner has taken great pains to preserve the beautiful classic historical designs (moldings, doors, staircases, banisters etc.) inside the house without sacrificing any modern conveniences, which I greatly appreciated because I enjoy old restored things but also enjoy functionality!
In addition to all the interesting rooms and staircases the house also offers a back porch area. This area turned out to be perfect for a cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres before we headed out to our restaurant reservation. The porch area looked out on the backyard and we really enjoyed it knowing we had complete privacy. And the house is located so conveniently to the village, we walked to the restaurant! And then guess what? We walked back. It was literally an 8 minute walk. No Uber, lyft, or taxi was needed!
There was also a temperature controlled pool steps away from the porch that we took advantage of. After swimming, we sat on the lounge chairs and just relaxed, let the sun dry us off.
Overall, I would really recommend this house if you are choosing Sag Harbor as the place you want to stay. With Sag Harbor you can expect to have a wonderful, relaxing time, and great nightlife that the Hamptons is known for but mixed with that you have the beauty of its history and architecture. With the Captain's house and it's close proximity to the village you get all that I have mentioned above.
