About Rita Rans

I've lived in New Orleans for 15 years and love my new hometown! I moved here from Indiana where I ran a vintage clothing store, used record shop and then worked in a battered women's shelter.

Rita Rans purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Rita Rans chose Downtown

I chose to live in this area because of the wonderful mix of neighbors and the closeness to the Quarter where I can walk to Mardi Gras or walk through the centuries old village on a quiet, misty morning. Many wonderful and talented artists, musicians, and other eclectic people live in the neighborhood making it an always inspirational place to visit or live.

What makes this apartment unique

There are many wonderful and relaxing ways to enjoy the guesthouse and yet be a quick walk to great bars and restaurants. During Mardi Gras, you can step out on the front porch to watch the pop up parades.

Quaint, comfortable and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do this property justice! It is so well decorated..top to bottom. And, we kept finding extras (like umbrellas, first aid kit, makeup remover, razors, etc..) The bed was very comfortable and rain shower head was great! But, what we didn't expect was a quaint, neighborhood with people out and about on foot, on bicycles, walking dogs strolling to neighborhood bars, restaurants, shops. And, we loved the front porch..for coffee every morning and for wine or drinks every evening. The neighbors are delightful..Everyone kept stopping and asking us questions about the neighborhood..we spend SO very much time on that small porch. Actually, we used to live in a New Orleans suburb and came into the city almost every weekend but had never discovered the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods. We are so glad that we did and will definitely plan another trip and would pick this great space again next time and in the meantime will be recommending it to friends. Don't want to leave any place out..but, don't miss Elizabeth's for breakfast, Cake Cafe and Flora's. We absolutely loved Mimi's upstairs bar and tapas area. Actually went two evenings. And Bacchanal's for great jazz at lunch and in the evening and the cheese trays are great. The Franklin just two blocks down is a beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious. A little further away is the Port O Call on Esplanade Ave. It has the best hamburgers and baked potato plate we have ever had anywhere (one of our favorites when we lived in NO). Also Adolpho's on Frenchman is great.. This was our second time to eat there and were not disappointed. One of our best meals of the week. They do not take reservations and only accept cash. Depends on how long you have in the city..the St. Roch Market on St. Claude was outstanding! Again, this rental is in a prime location and there are so many discoveries to be made. You will love it! Suggestion..the exhibit at the Presbytere next to Jackson Cathedral has a moving exhibit on Hurricane Katrina and a Mardi Gras exhibit both for the low price of $5 if you are old like us. And, a do not miss..If you happen to be strolling down Royal only a couple of blocks from Jackson Square in front of Rouse's food mkt, you just might stumble onto the best clarinet player I have ever heard..Doreen! For 20 years, I have been listenening to her play. Around noonish, but if not..go in and ask!

True living like a local!

  • 5 of 5

This house was one of the best places I have ever stayed at! The location was perfect to all the amazing coffee shops and bars and within walking distance of the Frenchman and French Quarter. Plus there was plenty of parking on the street and I felt very safe in this neighborhood. I never had the chance to meet with Rita (as I was mostly out and about) but she responded quickly every time I had a question or just wanted to inform her of something.

The house itself was wonderfully decorated and very clean. Rita had water bottles in the fridge which you need to have on the hot days in NOLA! The bathroom was well stocked and the shampoo and conditioner was PLUS since I forgot mine! The bed was so comfortable and cozy. The air conditioner worked perfectly since it was so hot and humid while I was visiting.

The really cool feature (in my opinion) was the front porch. It was nice to be able to sit on the porch at night and just watch all of the wonderful NOLA life go by.

I plan on coming to New Orleans again and I will make sure to check Rita's place before anyone else! Thank you for making my birthday weekend a memorable and relaxing one Rita! FIVE STARS!!!!!!

Great place for a weekend getaway. Very clean and has a comfortable bed.

AC works very well which is a plus. Short cab or uber down to Bourbon.

Was my first booking with this app and was very pleased with the overall experience.

This was a great place, clean and comfortable, neiborhood hood felt safe, we walked during the night and never felt threatened. Rita has put alot of thought into the little extras she has for your use. Hope to stay here again.

Awesome as always!

  • 5 of 5

I try to stay here every time I visit New Orleans if I can...this apartment is just perfect. Exactly the size I need as a solo traveler, beautifully and eclectically decorated, nice quiet block, great location, (right in the neighborhood I used to live in, which I love) great value (there are plenty of other places that are not this nice that charge way more, believe me!) - simply the best!
