About Rita Rans

I've lived in New Orleans for 15 years and love my new hometown! I moved here from Indiana where I ran a vintage clothing store, used record shop and then worked in a battered women's shelter.

Rita Rans purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Rita Rans chose Downtown

I chose to live in this area because of the wonderful mix of neighbors and the closeness to the Quarter where I can walk to Mardi Gras or walk through the centuries old village on a quiet, misty morning. Many wonderful and talented artists, musicians, and other eclectic people live in the neighborhood making it an always inspirational place to visit or live.

What makes this apartment unique

There are many wonderful and relaxing ways to enjoy the guesthouse and yet be a quick walk to great bars and restaurants. During Mardi Gras, you can step out on the front porch to watch the pop up parades.

Awesome stay in the Fauborg Marigny!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I truly enjoyed our recent visit to New Orleans! This is mostly due the awesome accommodations we rented for our stay. The location is definitely convenient to the Quarter, and from there, to the rest of the city. We enjoyed several of the bars and restaurants that are close to the house. The house itself was perfect for us, in the fact that it was cozy and clean. While not huge, it did exactly what we needed and wanted. We made great use of the front porch in the evenings to enjoy a beer, and say hello to folks walking by. We explored the neighborhood on foot, then we'd walk over to the streetcar station and ride around town from there. We are already making plans to return, and will be staying here again! Thanks!

Cute place and great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here and had a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed exploring the neighborhood and the easy walk over to Frenchman. The house was perfect for the laid-back, but not too far from the action, vacation we were hoping to have. We really didn't want to leave and highly recommend the place to others!

Cute, comfortable, quiet neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable and spacious, near enough to Frenchman St, the Quarter, etc., but the street itself is pretty quiet. Places to eat and drink nearby, but walkable to the French Quarter as well. We'd come back.

a wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this rental for one week in October. It was absolutely perfect! The decor is charming and the space is very clean and comfortable (the bed was amazing!). The unit was very well equipped with everything you need: microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, coffee, sugar, creamers, towels, soap, shampoo, etc etc. It was also really nice to have a front porch which I made use of it at the beginning and end of each day to watch the goings on in the neighbourhood.

I loved the location and I either walked or biked everywhere I went in the city. Close enough to the French Quarter and Frenchman Street, but also far enough away to have peace and quiet. I recommend bike rental from A Bicycle Named Desire on Elysian Fields, just a few blocks away. I found the price very reasonable for a super could cruiser. There is no better way to see the city and explore all its unique neighbourhoods than by bike.

There are also great places to eat and drink within walking distance. A few I would recommend are; Cake Cafe, Satsuma, Mimi's, Bachanal, St. Roch Market, Paladar 511, and Horn's

Rita is an excellent host, and is extremely responsive to all questions. She is very nice to talk to but also very respectful of your privacy. I have now stayed in both of Rita's awesome rentals, and I look forward to returning to either one of them as soon as i can!

Perfect couple's getaway

  • 5 of 5

Are you looking for a cozy, well-kept getaway spot in a great neighborhood, with easy access to everywhere? You can stop looking, because you're done. This is what you are looking for.

Right on the border between the vibrant Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods, this has more than enough room for a couple looking for a home base to explore the wonderful city of New Orleans. Lots of great neighborhood breakfast spots and bars within walking distance, and an easy walk to Frenchmen Street and the Quarter. Also a short 10 minute walk to the St. Roch market and the newly-opened Rampart-St. Claude streetcar which takes you along the back of the FQ all the way to Canal Street. From there, it's an easy walk to the FQ/CBD, or to transfer onto the St. Charles streetcar and head out to the Garden District and Uptown. Or you can catch the Canal Street trolley and head to Mid-City and City Park. You can easily get just about anywhere in the city from here, so you have access to all the different neighborhoods.

The house is very clean and comfortable with wonderful natural light. Great rainfall shower, cozy furniture, and the bed...everything you've read on here about the bed is true. A few trains throughout the day and night and occasional truck noise out front driving down the bumpy road, but nothing unreasonable or outside what you would expect in this part of town. All the neighbors and passers-by were friendly and welcoming, and I felt perfectly safe walking around the area.

Rita is a very responsive host, responding to e-mails within hours and to texts literally within seconds. Couldn't ask for better. We will most definitely stay here again in the future--can't wait to come back!
