About Rita Rans

I've lived in New Orleans for 15 years and love my new hometown! I moved here from Indiana where I ran a vintage clothing store, used record shop and then worked in a battered women's shelter.

Rita Rans purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Rita Rans chose Downtown

I chose to live in this area because of the wonderful mix of neighbors and the closeness to the Quarter where I can walk to Mardi Gras or walk through the centuries old village on a quiet, misty morning. Many wonderful and talented artists, musicians, and other eclectic people live in the neighborhood making it an always inspirational place to visit or live.

What makes this apartment unique

There are many wonderful and relaxing ways to enjoy the guesthouse and yet be a quick walk to great bars and restaurants. During Mardi Gras, you can step out on the front porch to watch the pop up parades.

Beautiful place, perfect location. Extremely comfortable and very charming!

  • 5 of 5

The property is exactly as described, quaint and eclectic but perfect for all we needed. Easy access and owner was VERY flexible with our early/late - arrival/departure! Easy walk to and from the French Quarter, also lovely places to eat nearby! We would definitely stay here again. Our friends had a perfect wedding next door at the fire house, great memories and fun had by all!

Felt like part of the neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many locations around New Orleans, several times in the Marigny/Bywater neighborhood and this was by far the best! Rita was very easy to work with throughout the process. The unit was just the right size for two and the furnishings and decorations were comfortable and homey. Location was perfect, we enjoyed the easy access to Cresent Park and had many great meals in the neighborhood. Frenchman Street was easy walk each evening for great music and the patio at the New Feelings Cafe was the best. This will be our go-to please to stay for future visits to our of our favorite cities!

Just Right

  • 5 of 5

What a fine location, close enough to the French Quarter and Frenchman St. to be convenient, friendly neighborhood, walking distance to Mimi's, the Bakery Cafe and the Franklin restaurant. The space itself is delightful, so creatively furnished, comfortable, clean, with the outside sitting area in the front. Rita was helpful and responsive. We look forward to returning.

This was our first stay at this guest house in New Orleans, and we loved everything about it. The neighborhood is charming, close to the French Quarter, and Frenchman St. music and art venues. The decor is lovely, we walked in the neighborhood both day and evening, so much is close by and when we wore ourselves out visiting museums, art fairs, music venues, we revived ourselves at this cozy, charming guest house. Rita has created a warm tastefully decorated space. We loved our breakfasts at Cake Bakery, dinner at Mimi's and Franklin. On a morning walk we discovered a marvelous urban garden at the corner of the street that grows produce used at a culinary school that is two blocks down from the garden that serves breakfast and lunch every day but Wednesday. We plan to make this our home away from home any time we are in New Orleans.

Quaint, eclectic hideaway for two!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this propery and before the evening is over will have it booked for another stay. We could not be any happier than with this small gem of a place to stay. Love the front porch where we have coffee in the mornings and wine in the early evening. The bed is the most comfortable of any we have ever slept in while on vacation. The shower/bath is amazing and Rita has thought of everything! We love the neighborhood..was told the morning we left by a group on bicycles how much they loved the row of houses and was complemented another evening on the color we had selected for our house! It is not OUR home, but sure feels like it! It is within walking distance to the Quarter (I had rather park closer) and to Frenchmen street which is a must go-to in the evening for great music and restaurants. There are many restaurants close by that we would drive across the city to eat in, but are within walking distance. The Franklin, Mimi's, Elizabeths ( a must for breakfast/brunch), Bacchanal 's (great wine bar with live music day and night), Feelings Cafe (great patio!) and so many others! Thank you to Rita for another great week in a great City!
