With great views of the Skirrid mountain and only a stone’s throw away from the famous “Skirrid Fawr walk” a mountain of mud and myths. Perfect short break
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, showed the apartment and given some good tips about places to eat locally. The apartment was clean and warm and the underfloor heating a real treat (especially as we stayed in November). My daughter loved the mezzanine in her room and we made good use of the films on Now TV in the evenings. Lots of beautiful scenery and places to visit close by. We had a wonderful weekend and would definitely recommend it.
Lovely apartment,great location
Plenty of room for our family of four, everything that you need was there.Furnished well and very comfortable. Nice underfloor heating when we needed. Has''Now TV" with plenty of films to watch. We found plenty to do in the area. Friendly owners. Excellent and would return.
Great property, lovely location with friendly owners
We only had a short stay here but loved it. It was very relaxing and away from it all. The owners were extremely welcoming and friendly and really added to the whole experience, one that we can honestly say we loved!!
A great place to stay.
A lovely comfortable and well equipped apartment with great views of the Skirrid and surrounding countryside from the kitchen window. It is well situated for both scenic local walks and exploring the Brecon Beacons. We received a very warm welcome from Karen and Nigel and we very much enjoyed our stay.
Lovely spacious apartment
Really nicely furnished roomy apartment. Very modern and clean. Great location too.
Thank you very much for your kind words, much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the trip and your welcome back anytime. Karen
Previous reviews, online and in visitors book, speak of the warmth, both of the reception and the property. Sadly, on arrival we experienced neither. Arrived on the afternoon of a particularly cold day to find no-one around but located key at neighbour and let ourselves in. Managed to locate the thermostat for the heating but turning this on made barely any difference and we spent the evening sat in our fleeces in the living room.
We saw nothing of Karen and Nigel who were away for the whole weekend leaving son Lloyd in charge. He sorted out some alternative heating and apologised profusely in between phone calls to Nigel to find out how to address the heating issue. Seems likely this was caused by the heating having been off for too long in between stays, as the apartment heated up over the weekend (as did the outside temperature, it should be said). The only problem with the rise in temperature was that it was accompanied by an awful lot of flies in the living room and bedroom, certainly more than you'd expect for November. Raising this with Nigel by text brought the response 'welcome to the countryside'! Mmm ... stayed in the countryside quite a lot and not had this issue before. Maybe we've just been lucky.
Mitigating circumstances (hence why a 3 star not a 2 star) include the fact that they only opened in September so still on a learning curve. Also, got to admit that first impressions can colour perspectives of other things, such as the TV struggling with anything other than BBC channels, something that probably wouldn't have bothered us if we weren't so cold. There were other niggles but will let these pass.
There were good things including it being clean and tidy, lovely bathroom, hot shower and bath; good kitchen facilities; proximity to Abergavenny, Brecon Beacons, and to some great restaurants, including The Angel and The Hardwick; not a bad price, although I notice this has gone up since we booked.
Really hate to be the party-pooper when so many of the reviews we've seen are so good. But as it is often said, it's not how good you are when things are going well but how well you respond to crises, and on balance, our response would be "could do better".
The good thing was that it didn't spoil our first trip to this area, and would certainly return to this part of the world again, if not this property.
Post Code - NP78AW
The post code will bring you close to a restaurant called the Walnut Tree. This is a 3 star Michelin restaurant which is nice but expensive. When the restaurant is on your left and you should be heading East, then take the next RIGHT not left 100 meters past the restaurant. This will bring you into our drive. You should see Dan-Y Skirrid Apartment in front of you. My son will be there to help you as I may be away that weekend. (back Sunday) There is a spare key with our neighbours if he is not around. Any issues then please ring my partner Nigel 07891190683.
WiFi pass word is (danyskirrid) lower case.
There are no pubs within easy walking distance sorry. There are pubs dotted around the area but its a good walk to any of them.
