About Joe and Jo Lynn Winterle

My name is Jo Lynn and I am the oldest daughter of Joe and will be assisting you with your rental. Joe is retired and lives in Tallahassee. He built this house for my Mom, Hilda who loved the beach and my Dad loved to sail. The Sea Gull was designed for family and the flow of the living area being open made a great place for food, gatherings and many happy memories. My Dad was a co-founder of the Shell Point Yacht Club which is still in existence today after all these years...

Joe and Jo Lynn Winterle purchased this house in 1984

A Very Nice House

  • 4 of 5

Nice house with boat dock. Truly is just a golf cart ride to a small beach. Out of the way location, not lots of good restaurants, plan on eating simple or making your own. Well decorated home. We enjoyed our stay.

Great place to stay south of Tallahassee

  • 5 of 5

We were having an 80th birthday party for my Dad in Tallahassee. With our kids coming into town there was not enough room for us to stay with Family that lives just south of Tallahassee. This house on Shell point turned out to be the perfect spot. The location was great in proximity to the rest of the family. The house turned out to be perfect for us. All we had to do was stop by the Winn-Dixie in Crawfordville for groceries and we were set. There is everything that you would need at the house, It's very nice! This house is a nice place to kick back and relax. It's a quiet place and very comfortable. The setting of the house was great for us. We have adult children and they were able to enjoy the upstairs rooms while my wife and I stayed downstairs. The living area downstairs is open and perfect for the family setting. Over all I would highly recommend this house. It's close enough to Tallahassee if you need to do something there, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to really enjoy yourself.

We had a great time. We enjoyed sitting out on the decks. The neighbors were friendly. The beach wasn't too far. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the sunset.

The place was beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you would need. It was very clean and quiet just what we needed. We enjoyed using the Golf cart to get a good view of the sunsets. Also the boat dock was a plus so enjoyed catching fish (trout) every day we went out. Then enjoyed eating the fish with friends. Everywhere we ate out was delicious too. The area is very quiet even though close to small town and other interesting areas for sightseeing. It was so quite that the birds were our wake up call. We thank Jo Lynn for our time at the Seagull. We will be back as soon as possible.....

wonderfully quiet and beautiful experience!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is beautiful, clean and well managed.....Right on the canal and enjoyed the dock and my early morning coffee on the deck watching the boats go in and out. Quiet and gated neighborhood! Beach with full facilities just a golf cart ride away. Many restaurants available just 10 minutes drive. We ate at a different one for lunch and dinner everyday and we were NEVER disappointed. We did kayak fishing and kayak river floating and had a blast with Wilderness Way. Great mini vacation and only 1 hr 15 mins from home :) We will definitely return!

Shell Point is a small, quiet community located in Wakulla County, one of Florida's best-kept secrets and part of Florida's forgotten coast. Besides offering the best flats fishing anywhere, it's ideal for sightseeing and photography. It is located between St. Marks and Panacea, and is only 30 miles south of Tallahassee (Florida's capital). Tallahassee has all of the conveniences of a big city - malls, restaurants, museums, parks, airport - and is well known for being the home of Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU).

For the fisherman, the fishing is as good as it gets and there is an assortment of USCG licensed captains that will be more than willing to book and take you out into the bay for a fishing experience that you will never forget. We have year round charter fishing, with different species at different times. Trout and red fish and can be caught all year long. Tarpon are here from June till August, and cobia show up in the early spring as the water warms and stay until fall. The flats also hold Spanish Mackerel, blue fish, sheepshead, flounder and ladyfish. Or you can head out to deeper waters for grouper and snapper.

For the sailor, Shell Point is a great place for windsurfing and sailing and hosts several Regattas each year.

Numerous Birding opportunities await, at nearby Wakulla Springs State Park , St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, St. George Island, St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park, and Bald Point State Park which are all part of the Great Florida Birding Trail.

For the beach enthusiast, nearby beaches include St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park and St. George's Island, which are regularly voted into the top ten beaches in the world (an hour to an hour and a half drive). Shell Point Beach is about 1/4 mi. from "The Seagull". It is a very, very small beach located on the bay, which means that the only waves that you will see will be on a very windy day. It doesn't compare to the other two beaches mentioned earlier, but it is very convenient and a great place to relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife in and surrounding the bay, along with breathtaking sunsets.

WAKULLA SPRINGS STATE PARK, (10 miles away) is one of the largest fresh water springs in the world. Wakulla Springs was the site for filming the early Tarzan movies, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Airport 77. From the river boat and glass bottom boat tours, you can see alligators, manatees, many species of water fowl, fish, turtles, snakes, and deer, in and around the crystal clear waters emerging from the depth of the springs. They also have a swimming area, with a diving platform. Kids love it and you will, too. The water stays at about 70 degrees all year round. It's very refreshing in the heat of the summertime. Downstream from the springs, canoes and kayaks can be rented on the Wakulla River.

ST MARK'S NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE is a 15 minute drive. Visit the St. Mark's Lighthouse and snap some photos of the wildlife within this refuge.
