Our bright and spacious cabin is just right for your family, your family plus grandparents, or a group of close friends. Two bedrooms plus a loft provide sleeping for up to 8 comfortably. The main floor bedroom is a queen. The upstairs bedroom has a king bed, a twin, and a bonus twin sleeping cubby (for anyone less than about 5'8). The loft has a full bed. The loft and king bedroom are not connected, and are separate and private. The loft partially overlooks the living room.
The cottage's ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. In the winter, we love to spend time skiing at the nearby resort, followed by a starlit soak in the 6 person hot tub, dinner, and a board game. In summer we hike in the Chugach mountains, relax in the hot tub, then walk the gravel road to a local restaurant. On a chilly evening we turn on the gas fireplace and read or watch a movie. The neighborhood is peaceful and Girdwood's relaxed and quirky charm is fun to experience. An occasional neighbor will walk or drive down the gravel road, but otherwise it is a very calm and quiet area.
Kids and adults both love to eat at the kitchen bar, and the open floor plan means everyone can join in the conversation. Sit on the front porch, have a drink, and BBQ up some salmon on the gas grill. Just minutes from the grocery store, library, and playground, our cottage is exactly what you are looking for in Girdwood.
We have a washer and dryer and provide laundry detergent. The kitchen is basic and fully equipped. Our cabin is stocked with all the basics for cooking - as you would find when you borrow your Uncle Stan's cabin. We want you to feel at home. You only need to bring your food, but don't worry about having oil to cook the eggs, flour to add to the gravy, or ketchup for your burgers. Any item forgotten can probably be purchased at the local grocery.
We have WiFi.
We are outdoor Alaskans. We ski Alyeska Resort and the local backcountry in the winter and spend time on the ocean in the summer. We want our guests to experience Alaska. Our cabin provides a great base for all travelers, whether you want to climb local mountains or ride the tram to the top.
Patty purchased this cottage in 2010
Our cottage feels comfortable from the moment you enter. We loved it from the start, and we host friends with their kids many weekends in the winter. We enjoy walking around the block, and up to Moose Meadows, a large field (too swampy in summer) for a cross country ski. In summer, we walk on the bike/foot path that skirts the Meadow, over to the Resort, and take a shortcut through the forest trail back home. We will have this mapped out for you to enjoy too, as well as a host of other favorite trails in Girdwood, and our favorite sites to explore.
In summer it is likely to see a bear or moose in town if you keep your eyes open. They quickly disappear in the foliage and are easy to miss. The small town atmosphere of Girdwood is relaxed and easy going. Extra tuffs are just as popular as tennis shoes. No fancy clothes are needed here, unless you want to have a special occasion outing.
Lovely cottage right in the heart of Girdwood. Perfect for families who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for some skiing and downtime!
Everything about Cortina Cottage was well thought out and cared for. They even had flip flops in various sizes by the door for the hot tub. It was clean and well cared for and they provide recommendations of various local things to do from trails to hike to places to eat. Patty was easy to work with and all transactions and interactions were pleasant and easy. My husband and I traveled with my parents and the 4 of us had plenty of room and enjoyed our stay very much.
The Cortina Cottage exceeded our expectations. There were several sleeping areas with clean, comfortable beds. The house is nicely decorated and has an open concept with kitchen, dining room, and living room area. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The owners have a wonderful binder listing restaurants and places of interest nearby. This was the perfect home base for our excursions around Girdwood. We did day hikes, took the tram up Alyeska, visited a local potter's shop, and made a scenic day trip to Seward. It felt great to have this cottage to return to in the evenings. We highly recommend this house and hope to return someday.
We loved our stay! Patty was a great host. Her home is beautiful. We were a group of six and there was plenty of room. The location in Girdwood is an easy walk to restaurants and shops. Would definitely stay here again!
This was a great house for our small family of 4. It could easily sleep more though. We really appreciated the washer and dryer! We found everything to be clean and although we didn't cook at the house, I noticed the kitchen was well stocked with all the proper cooking utensils to make meals for groups of people. Communication was easy. I highly reccomend this cottage to other families visiting Girdwood.
This home was wonderful! I took a trip for my 30th with 6 of my friends from college and we had an amazing time. I think the pictures don't even do the cabin justice, it's so cute inside. And the hot tub was very nice! Patty was always in contact and there was everything that we could need supplied. We saw a moose and her baby in the backyard! So close to everything, such a nice little area. Would definitely recommend!
