We have resident eagles that nest literally right above the line of sight of old glory flying out front. They reared three eaglets last summer, and guest were treated to watching the Momma eagle fish for her offspring, and the eaglets learning to test their wings on the edge of the nest. Regular chirping is heard as the eagles talk each other and answer Scott's whistles.

Attention: This is an Alaskan wilderness experience, accessible by boat only. The cabin is very comfortable with most comforts of home, including hot and cold running water. However special consideration should be given to how prepared you are to be a short skiff ride from town and conventional services, including emergency services, and with not having all the perks of flush toilets, unlimited electrical power, and internet access. A cell phone signal booster is provided, but ATT and other providers may have very spotty coverage. Verizon and its affiliates have good coverage. Please check with your cell provider. There is limited Internet WiFi upon request by prearrangement.
Note: Guests will assume full responsibility for judging their fitness, health concerns and ability with mobility to enter and exit a skiff on the beach, walking a moderate distance on a soft uneven surface during low tides, including inherent risks associated with the length of time for emergency response to medical issues. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the owner.

The cabin is hard wired for a future "conventional" power source, but it is not hot at this time. (phaze II) The fridge and hot water is run from propane, provided by the owner. Best value vacation rental on Kachamak Bay. If you are looking for the most comfortable, remote feeling, yet close to trandportation cabin in the Kachemak Bay area you have found it. This property belonged to a family that lived there for three generations. They had their pick of the best spot on Seldovia bay back in the 1940's and the locals tell us we do indeed have the "best" spot on the bay. (we think so, and we think you will agree). It has a delightful small stream that cascades over a waterfall above the property and provides abundant fresh water. The property is in a protected cove and the salmon and halibut fishing is not far away. Fishing charters can be arranged by the owners. The fish guide will pick you up or drop you off at Homer with prior arrangement. Scott will provide free shuttles to and from Seldovia when needed. (gas donations for extra trips appreciated) Restaurants, bar, library, groceries, as well as medical servives is all available only10 skiff minutes away. No worries about being stranded. Scott stays in the old cabin on the property. You will have as much privacy as you want and assistance when you need it.
A private beach with a secluded wilderness experience yet only 1.75 miles by water from the quaint village of Seldovia. Seldovia is a friendly, historic fishing town who's working waterfront was dramatically change after the 1964 earthquake. Transportation is easily arranged and the hosts will guide you through the options. The area is sometimes frequented by black bears, although sightings are not common. This is a special place to decompress and get closer to the Creator.
Compare to full service Kachamak Bay Wilderness lodges from $400 to $600 and more. Note: while there is excellent running water in the cabin, including a kitchen sink, vanity sink and hot shower, there is an outhouse. Porta potty provided to avoid those trips outside at night.
Scott was an incredible host from the moment we arrived off the ferry to the final departure he was informative about the area, the wildlife, and every detail we needed to enjoy and be safe during our stay. The cabin is incredibly roomy and hosted the 5 of us adults and two small children very well. When we arrived on shore we could hear the pair of nesting eagles just a few trees away from the sitting area at the front of the cabin. The best part was seeing the last eagle fledge! There was also a small flock of stellers jays that would perch on the balcony while I had my morning coffee! When the tide was low we enjoyed beach walks, and during the day we used the pair of kayaks that were on the property.....the water was so blue, we enjoyed seeing the sea otters, the jelly fish and all of the gulls and eagles that flew by or were on the shore. The night time brought beautiful views of the moon over the water and even a bonfire on the beach! We had everything we needed in the cottage, beds, linens, kitchen supplies for cooking etc. I would like to say how incredibly safe we felt while we were there considering how remote these locations are....Scott is an incredible craftsman and outdoors-men prepared for many things if they were to arise. I would beware of places that just drop you off in areas that are so desolate and dont check in to see if your ok!
What a hidden treasure! Scott's A-frame cabin is amazing. The location will leave you breathless! The beach leading to the cabin is most spectacular, then you walk up to the most incredible cabin! Our family of 5 (3 kids aged 5,8,10) loved the cabin and surrounding area. There was plenty of room for us all, Scott was incredibly helpful, and friendly. The views from the cabin were amazing- ocean, mountains, otters, eagles, young eagles in a nest and a black bear!
Scott was incredibly helpful at shuffling us from our boat to the cabin and back repeatedly. His fishing tips proved to be bang on, as we had a successful fishing day! He even took us on a tour of Seldovia and to an artists cottage a short boat ride away.
Each evening we happily returned to the cabin to sit on the fantastic covered deck and enjoy the views. We later went inside to play board games and relax by the wood stove. We all had 3 full nights of the best sleeps, comfortable, quiet and the best smelling ocean air.
We were all sad to leave, but already looking forward to our next stay!
Thank you Scott! See you next summer!!
Our family spent the weekend here before two of our daughters left for college. We enjoyed the secluded location and had fun just being there as a family. Scott picked us up in his skiff from the Seldovia Port for our wet beach landing. Since there were 5 adults plus our food and personal belongings, it took two trips in the skiff to get us all there. From the time we stepped off the skiff and onto the beach in front of the cabin, we started to relax. We loved beach combing at low tide, watching the tide come in and go out, using the kayaks to see otters, watching the Bald Eagles and their young, and drinking coffee on the front deck. Two of us even tried fishing, but the waters were a little rough and no fish were caught. Scott and Janet were wonderful hosts and took care of all our needs. We will definitely go back and look forward to sharing this piece of paradise with our friends and family. It was definitely a blessing to stay there. Thanks and Praise!
This property is epic. The cabin is the perfect Alaskan getaway, surrounded by forest and the bay, otters and eagles. Very quickly the rest of the world fell away. Scott is an excellent host and his stories of Alaska kept us enthralled for hours, and we live in Alaska. We kayaked around Seldovia Bay and watched groups of otters play and eat. We will definitely visit again! And it was a definite bonus to meet his nephew, the ultimate Alaskan workhorse.
A small group of us stayed here for 4 nights to see Seldovia. The view across the bay is outstanding, and the host (Scott) was very nice and accommodating. A couple items worth mentioning...
- This is a remote location, which is great. Just be advised you'll need a ride on the host's boat to get to town (about 15 min, not accessible otherwise).
- The cabin is nice, but not totally finished. We initially were not aware there is not a full bathroom in the cabin (it's more of 1/2 bathroom for showering). We had just assumed there was (it may have stated that there wasn't one, we may have missed that). So you'll be using a separate outhouse behind the house to do your thing. There's also a few unfinished items here and there (mostly electrical). We were totally fine with this, but it should be noted.
- Scott's fishing guide is great. We'd definitely use him again. Great time, nice boat, lots of fish!
All in all, a nice stay.
This summer we are getting of the beaten path with our kids; what a place to start it all off! The cabin is absolutely beautiful; handcrafted with pride and clear talent. However, that's not even half the beauty of this location. The property is stunning to say the least. The combination of the sea air and the adjacent waterfall combined with the sounds of nature and not much else, makes for a tranquil stay. An eagle nests high in a Sitka spruce to the right of the cabin, sea otters play and feed daily right off the deck. Black bears keep to themselves but make for a fun spotting expereince. Clams, muscles, snails, worms line the beach (at low tide). Loons call just off shore while Eagles emit their whistling piping calls from above. It's that good! Scott and his wife, the owners of the cabin, are magnificent people who went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable and carefree as possible. The clear attention to details did not go unnoticed nor unappreciated!
