About Nancy Giges
We first visited St. Thomas on our honeymoon. When our daughter chose a destination wedding here in 2002, we knew we had to introduce others to the beautiful island with its beautiful people and to Crystal Cove. Our guests love many of the same things we do: the sun, peaceful beach, friendly locals and relaxed lifestyle. Not to mention great shopping and lots of outdoor activities.
Nancy Giges purchased this Condo in 2004
Why Nancy Giges chose Estate Smith Bay
THE BEACH! THE BEACH! THE BEACH! When we returned to St. Thomas after many years, our trip reminded us how much we loved the island. We looked at almost every condo complex on a beach on St. Thomas and chose Crystal Cove first and foremost because of Sapphire Beach. Our guests, young and old, like the low-key atmosphere and casual living. It took a year to completely gut the interior, remodel and refurnish. And we continually refresh and update on our frequent trips, about four or five times each year. Furnishings and decor are continually updated/replaced to stay fresh and colorful. As you probably already know, St. Thomas is part of the U.S., uses U.S. currency and the U.S. postal service.
What makes this Condo unique
Our guests --please take a look at our many reviews - feel right at home in our place whether staying for a week or an extended period of time. They tell us they appreciate the personal attention they receive from us and the personal service they receive from our local manager. They enjoy all that the island offers, entertainment, shopping, day trips to other islands, water sports, dining in and dining out at the many different restaurants on the island or just lazing on the beach enjoying a good book. What can be better than waking up to a beautiful beach, beautiful weather and beautiful experiences. The excellent staff of our complex takes extraordinary pride in the care they take of the property.

A good condo with a very nice beach
There are a lot of good things about this condo. First is that inside, they have done a nice job furnishing and equipping the place. It is not in any way luxurious or fancy, but it is nice. It is a generous one BR condo. The master bed is a king and a very comfortable, firm mattress. We slept well. The kitchen is fine - the appliances are functional if a bit long in the tooth. It has no dishwasher. Kitchen utensils, pots and pans are basic, but very functional. It has an in unit compact washer dryer, which is really handy. Living/dining area is good. It has cable but DVD player does not work. Two really comfy chairs in the front of the unit look out on the front lawn of the property through jalousie windows. Our favorite place to read and enjoy the breeze. Norma, the local manager is lovely and super helpful.
The beach is very nice. Good selection of chairs but several days we were out there, there was one of two ladies who seemed to be in charge of the beach and one of whom tried to charge us $9 to use a chaise lounge, saying chairs were free, but lounges were not. Kind of weird. Their beach is used by kite surfers who are a blast to watch.
The downside of the unit, and why it is more a mid-range than nice place is that the complex overall is a bit tired and scruffy. They have done a pretty nice job keeping up the common grounds in front. But you won't be impressed driving in to the back where you park. A number of the units have overgrown weeds, broken fences, and junk scattered about. There is a large collection of construction supplies and large eqparked on the back grounds. The canopy is still missing from the office where you drive up and the pavement of the parking areas is in bad repair.
Thank you for your review. As you may not know, most large complexes have been working non-stop to fully recover from the two Category 5 hurricanes that hit full force just days apart two years ago. Some buildings on the island are still not open yet; at our place, some of the last areas still to be taken care of are behind the complex buildings. We will report your incident on the beach to the association. That should not have happened.
Our St Thomas Stay
We rented the condo for a week with our three children. The space is so adequate for a family and was very clean. The property manager Norma is the best! If you have any questions or requests, all of them go through her. She came by early in our stay to introduce herself. In our conversation we asked her where to get the best conch fritters. She actually brought us some by that she had prepared and then showed us how to cook them properly! She became family during our week stay! She came over to visit a few times with us! She has the best knowledge about everything on the island and she is so helpful! The property is convenient to Red Hook where you will find shopping, dining and the ferry to St John! There is a bar located on the property that closes at 6pm most days, therefore, it is perfect for families with young kids. You don’t have to worry about the rowdy crowd late at night. You are just steps away from the ocean when you stay here. The pool is great too! The only thing I will say about the pool is that it lacks lighting in the pool itself. There are lights on the decking around the pool, but if you are swimming at night, the pool itself is dark. The only other thing I will say is that they are renovating the condo directly above this one. They are very punctual and start work at 8 am. If you like to sleep late, you may be bothered by the construction. Overall, for our first time on the island, we had a wonderful time and would choose to stay here again. We highly recommend the property! If you go, be sure to tell Norma hello from the Points’ family!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. And hope you come back again soon. This is the first we knew about the construction starting so soon. They are not supposed to start with any noise until 9:30 and we have reported that to the condo association. I am so sorry if it disturbed you. But glad to see you would come back again. We wish we had known while you were there because we could have changed that.
Great stay at Crystal Cove
We were here for a family memorial. This property was convenient, close to family, groceries, snorkeling. The pool was terrific & clean & we swam there by ourselves, no one else there! We'd love to go back. Perfect for us. Highlights of the snorkeling were sightings of spotted ray, turtles & barracuda right in front.
So glad our place worked well for you and that you enjoyed yourself. Please do come again!
Great place to stay!
Great place to stay. Great communication with owner. Right on the beach and near Red Hook.
Would definitely stay there again!
Glad it met all of your expectations! Maybe more? We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome back any time.
Nice property with a great beach
Our family had a very comfortable stay. Nancy answered all of my questions and prepared us well in advance for our family's stay. The unit was clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped. The murphy beds were surprisingly comfortable! Having the beach just a few steps away from the unit was convenient. Norma was accommodating and had such a positive attitude. We would definitely stay at your place again. Thank you!
So glad our place was so comfortable for your family at such a wonderful occasion. They are welcome any time.
So conveniently located: Coral World Ocean Park, an interactive aquarium and water-sports center, is close by. Skyride to Paradise Point nearby. Marina next door and nearby where boats for hire leave for trips to other nearby islands, St. John and the British Virgin Islands of Jost Van Dyke, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Fantastic duty-free shopping downtown. Just a mile away is the Red Hook area for shopping and restaurants and where ferry leaves for St. John and other islands. Golf at Mahogany Run about 5 miles away. Best location for best beaches. Ferry to St. John for dinner and/or shopping (different from St. Thomas) is just a mile away and takes 20 minutes. Enjoy a fantastic dinner and return at sunset for an unbelievable experience.
