Overview

About the property

Les Cerisiers is a spacious newly renovated barn set in a peaceful, rural location overlooking the French countryside but within easy reach of all amenities and 5 minutes from the bastide town of Duras with its beautiful chateau, shops, restaurants, bars and weekly market. There are 5 bedrooms comfortably sleeping 10 people. 2 large king bedded rooms both with en-suite facilities, 2 doubles and 1 twin sharing a shower room. The downstairs is an airy and open plan space overlooking the surrounding fields. To the one end there is a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, larder fridge, drinks fridge and large electric cooker with gas hob. Next to this is the dining area with large table seating up to 10 which opens onto the patio leading up to the garden and pool. To the other end is a seating and television area with a large picture window having open views across the fields. Upstairs around the gallery landing are the 5 bedrooms and an additional lounging and television area with a huge selection of dvd’s books and games. There is also additional sleeping space here ideal for children or to give flexibility for larger groups. Both televisions have sky freeview.

Outside, the pool and pool house are set within the large garden which is largely laid to grass with a variety of trees including cherry, fig, plum, quince, walnut and hazelnut. There is an undercover eating area next to the pool and large patio with sunbeds which has the benefit of being in the sun throughout the day. If you fancy a break from relaxing in the sun there is a large walled boules pitch next to the patio, badminton net and a tree house for the children.

There are many pretty villages and town nearby with bars, restaurants, weekly markets and a variety of activities including wine tours, cycling and walking routes, kayaking, horse riding, golf and tennis.

For your information the owners property is attached to the side of the barn but the garden and pool, which are accessed from the rear of the barn, are private and for your exclusive use (except for gardening and pool maintenance when necessary)

About Helen Wilson

We moved from the UK and made our home here in January 2016 after our two adult sons settled in London. Since then we have been enjoying the better weather and exploring all the wonderful things this region has to offer. Our home is attached to one side of the barn so if needed we can be available to give local information or help in any way we can to make your holiday enjoyable and memorable.

Imaginatively converted spacious barn in a peaceful part of the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our holiday at Les Cerisiers (The Cherry Trees).

The property is spacious, tastefully furnished and has everything one needs to make it a home from home. It occupies a large plot and is very peaceful. The owners Neil and Helen live next door which is really helpful as they are able to provide top tips about places of interest nearby.

The weather was superb - it was ideal to have a pool to cool off in. Kayaking on the Dordogne is a must as is a visit to one of the many local markets. The evening market in Duras was a particular highlight with a superb selection of food and local produce. If you want a meal for a special occasion visit the Hostellerie Les Ducs in Duras - fantastic food, immaculately presented with a very relaxed ambience.

Tasteful accommodation in ideal surroundings

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place! We came here on a family holiday with children aged between 4 and 11 and it was perfect. The barn-converted house is beautiful, so spacious, well equipped and finished to a very high standard and the grounds are stunning. The pool and the grass area allowed lots of outdoor play and the outdoor seating and eating areas were great. It's only a short drive to Duras and other nearby areas for local restaurants, cafes and markets as well as a decent sized supermarket. The weather was gorgeous and Helen and Neil were very helpful...we'd recommend it and would definitely come back here again.

There were 5 adults in our party, we all enjoyed it and had a very relaxed holiday.

  • 5 of 5

The house was near to a lovely little town, as well as being close to Bordeaux and Bergerac with lots of lovely villages around. Sadly we just missed the fields of Sunflowers at their best.

The house was so carefully thought through, lots of space for us to get lost in - we particularly liked the 'snug' area to chill and watch DVDs. Lots if seating areas inside and out. The swimming pool was very clean and warm, surrounded by lawns with chairs under the trees to sit and have your early cup of coffee. Lots of games and an area to play Boules.

The owners were very welcoming and helping and provided a lovely food and drinks assortment upon our arrival.

We would definitely go back.

The photos do not do this place justice. Much bigger than it appears in the photos. Very smart property with very large garden including badminton net etc. Will hopefully return soon.

Séjour idyllique, rien à redire !

  • 5 of 5

Located close to the impressive bastide towns of Duras, Monsegur, Eymet and many pretty villages Les Cerisiers is within easy reach of all facilities and attractions. There are weekly markets in the surrounding towns and villages and lively night markets themed around food and drink throughout July and August. Levignac de guyenne (2 km) has a baker, well equipped general store, pharmacy and post office. There are planned routes for cycling, walking, wine tours close by. Other activities nearby include golf courses (for all standards and abilities), kayaking and canoeing on the river Dropt or Dordogne, boat trips from Bergerac (river Dordogne) or Nerac (river Baise) horse riding and, of course, wine tasting. Days out could include the world famous and incredibly beautiful St Emilion 49 km, Bordeaux 100 km (train from Marmande 19 km) with the impressive Cite du Vin and everything that a city has to offer, the pretty old town of Bergerac set on the river Dordogne 45 km, with it's Masion du vin museum, Nerac, a beautiful historic town 75 km with boat trips on the river Baise as well as the many beautiful historic hilltop villages of the Dordogne many within an hour or two away. You will find many restaurants, bars and cafes where ever you visit, near or far, all celebrating the magnificent food and wines of this diverse department.
