Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Very private "luxury" cottage on beautiful estate with numerous activities

A cozy "luxury" cottage available for a weekend break or longer vacation on a very private estate with two lakes. The cottage is about 150 yards from Mirror lake where guests will enjoy exclusive access. It is a 20 minute walk to the upper "source" lake. The property is 2+ hours from New York and Boston. 25 mins to Great Barrington, 40 mins to Tanglewood. Nestled in the rolling hills and mountains of Berkshire county. The two lakes of 20+ acres each sit on a 1300+ acre property with numerous streams and the Silverbrook river offering endless hikes, fishing, birding and outdoor camping possibilities. Wildlife in abundance. Family farm on site with horses, goats, chickens and ducks. Cottage itself is ideal for a couple or small family with an exceedingly comfortable brand new top end California King bed in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has a luxury leather couch with a pull out Queen size bed. It doubles as the TV room with Direct TV, new Samsung HDTV 40 inch flat screen. New convection range for fine cooking. Dining room and office space and bathroom with shower/bath make up rest of this cute cottage. Barbecue pit outside the cottage and by both lakes. Boating and swimming on lakes. This cottage is ideal if you want to get away to total seclusion and nature but still be close enough to artistic retreats in the Berkshires like Tanglewood or Norfolk music festivals and only a couple of hours from major cities. No Pets.

Personal Blog: We intend to update this "blog" on a regular basis to describe the current conditions at Woodcrest. Date 4/1/2017 It is still freezing! What looked like the beginning of spring once again fooled us. Maple syrup and eggs doing well but still waiting on the goats and a deeper thaw.

Practically A Nature Reserve

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great week at this little cottage on a huge private land with pond. This place is perfect for nature lovers and solitude/privacy. We spotted over thirty types of birds and wildlife ranging from deer, fox, porcupine and giant snapping turtles to fireflies aplenty.

The house isn't glamorous, but is a great value, well appointed with the basics in the kitchen, nice dining area and modern TV, excellent comfortable King Bed too.

5-star experience, 4+ cottage

  • 5 of 5

Stellar long weekend for parents and kids (8 & 5) alike. The location and setting are stunning and pristine and we had all the fun- fishing, swimming, canoeing, fire-building. The privacy and lake views were fabulous. Cottage itself is simple and sufficient, but a couple of small things would vastly improve it--a fan for the second bedroom (we ended up buying one); curtains or shades (if you, like us, prefer your kids not to wake up at dawn on vacation); and some more kitchen utensils (bring your own knives)! But overall- minor things. We figured it out and had a truly relaxing break from the grind. We would definitely return, and hope to soon.

My husband, 12 year old daughter and I had a perfect weekend here. We were looking for an easy, end-of-summer, quiet retreat together before the business of the school year began, and this is exactly what we found.

The cottage perfectly suited our needs. We heeded the advice of other reviewers and brought exactly what we needed for our stay: chairs and food we wanted for simple meals.

We spent our time hiking, kayaking, swimming, reading, sketching, and relaxing by the water. Every day we enjoyed the quiet abundance of wildlife: hawks, salamanders, crayfish, frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, turtles, hummingbirds, porcupines and a family of wild turkeys. In the evening we relaxed around the outdoor bbq and campfire. Our final evening brought a spectacular view of the night sky from the dock.

Communication with Dominic was both prompt and clear.

In short, this was everything we were looking for and - for us - the best of what VRBO can be.

Total seclusion and amazing private lake

  • 5 of 5

The super rustic cottage was a nice trip for my wife and I and our two young boys. The lake is fantastic and shallow throughout. My kids spent hours playing in the water and jumping off the dock. The 20 minute hike up to the source lake was an easy excursion up a very hilly trail. The owner was kind enough to provide local milk and free range duck eggs to try when we arrived. We had excellent Verizon LTE coverage which enabled me to use my hotspot and keep up with work emails.

Like the other reviewers stated, bring your own lounge or beach chairs if you want to to sit by the fire pit or lake. Also, the House is located at the intersection of Sears and Clark roads. Google maps will send you down the wrong street if you enter the house address.

We hope to visit again in the future.

Charming cottage steps away from on an amazing lake.

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage. Perfect for a quiet vacation and privacy. The owner and family are very nice and friendly but are not busy bodies. The only drawback was a lack of lounge chairs at the house or the lake, so bring your own. I highly recommend and will come back again.
