Cyprus:-: Cyprus is the third largest Island in the Mediterranean, it is an island of beauty and a country of contrasts. Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun-kissed beaches. Tranquil, timeless villages are in striking contrast to modern cosmopolitan towns. Luxurious beach side hotels can be exchanged for large areas of natural unspoilt countryside. Yet in Cyprus all distances are easily manageable, mostly on modern roads and highways - with a secondary route or two for the more adventurous. The summers are long and hot, fruit trees buckle under the weight of their bounty as do the vines, the grapes of which go into producing some fine local wines. The Island has long been of great strategic importance and boasts the legacy of many of its occupying empires, fortifications built by the Crusaders still stand. A villa holiday here is idyllic, there is lots to see and plenty to do, the welcome is warm and the weather likewise.
Lasa and Phiti Villages:-: Set deep in the Paphos hills, Phiti and Lasa villages beckon the determined traveller from the Paphos tourist belt. Away from the souvenir shops, ice cream and hamburgers, this region was really discovered by a handful of travellers, passing to or from Chrysorroyiatissa Monastery. The warmth and rich hospitality you will find here are as sincere and old as Cyprus itself. This is a corner of Cyprus as yet untouched by mass commercial development; a timeless paradise where the daily chores needing attention eventually become urgent enough to get done; for the visitor it is not easy to determine when, how, or by whom. There is little routine to speak of, no obvious order. At the same time, there is no sense of disorder, just a warm feeling that if one had to, spend the rest of ones life here, it would not be difficult.
Local Shopping:-: Part and parcel of any holiday is the question of what to take home. Leather is very good value. The shoe shops stock up-to-date styles at very reasonable prices. Handbags, suitcases and jackets are a good bargain. Shoes and jackets, as well as men's suits and shirts, can be made-to-measure within a week or so. Handicrafts abound on every shopping street. A good spot to view them is the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Lefkosia, with retail shops in every town. Small items of the distinctive, traditional pottery make good gifts, and so does Cyprus copper ware and filigree silver. Always popular is the beautiful 'Lefkaritika' or ' Lefkara Lace'. Folkweave, needle and crochet work, woodwork and basketwork are a few more of the things visitors like to take home with them, not to mention Cyprus brandy which can be bought by the demijohn, Commandaria and even Halloumi - the Cyprus cheese.

After a terrible year we couldn't wait to get back to Eleni for guaranteed R&R and sure enough after 2 weeks we felt a whole lot better. The Manager Christine and the owners Kostas and Skevi were aware of the problems we had endured during the previous year and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They were so kind. The Villa is totally private should you want that 'all over tan' and so peaceful. Only sounds to be heard were wildlife and the odd farmer going about his work. However should you need a day on the beach both Polis and Paphos are within 20 minutes drive as are the Supermarkets. I have to say the welcome pack was so good we knew we could hop off the plane and head straight up to the pool leaving the supermarket shopping for a day or two. Another bonus is the free AC which we used only in the bedroom.
Phyti is completely untouched by tourism however the locals all speak English and there are a couple of excellent Tavernas serving beautiful Cypriot food. Kostas and Skevi come to tend the pool and garden twice a week after 5pm, so quality sunbathing time is undisturbed. They are lovely folk and will chat away quite happily. We were told to help ourselves to the fruit growing in abundance in the garden and we did. It was delicious!
Missing it terribly now we are back home and will definitely return next year.
This was the second year we have stayed at the Villa Elleni. As ever it was wonderful, right from the booking and payment, which was easy, through the stay which was wonderful.
The villa is great if you are looking for a get away from it all stay. It is up in the hills, but still close enough to Polis and Paphos to make them easily accessable. The villa itself has 3 good bedrooms and fantastic pool with a great view.
As we were staying a little later in the year this time we even got to use the open fire place in the evening which was a great experience.
I really don't want to many people to know about this place, as it makes it more difficult for us to book in ourselves.
Thanks Christine and Costas, a great stay.
Neil Morgan and family.
Christine from st pauls travel recommended this villa and I have to say it was perfect for us. It was located in a secluded position on the outskirts of the small village of Phyti. The views were amazing, the weather beautiful - lovely and hot with a nice breeze to cool you down. The pool was also great to cool you down and for gentle exercise! The villa had everything you could possibly need and more and Costas the owner was very helpful and friendly. He patiently answered any questions we had and grows lovely fruit and makes the most delicious wine! The people in the village were friendly and there is a charming museum where the owners take you on a tour explaining the history of and demonstrating traditional Cypriot weaving and Cypriot life.
We stocked up with produce from one of the large supermarkets in Paphos where there was a great selection to choose from of both Cypriot and British food. We opted for a Cypriot diet and it was delicious.
We ate at the two tavernas in Phyti. Pefkos had a fantastic mezze, there was a great selection and there was so much food, we couldnt get through it all! We went to Marias because it had rave reviews but were a bit disappointed because there was not alot of food available. What we had was nice, but if you are going to eat there I would recommend that you pay Maria a visit and ask when is the best time to go? We will do that next time as I am sure it would be good food, and Maria is very welcoming. We also ate at Imogens in Kathekas (just past Stroumpi) well worth a visit. Paphos is a very pretty area, with lots of green fields, fruit orchards, and beautiful flowers planted along the road side. We like to stay up in the hills rather than on the coast where you get to have a taste of traditional Cypriot life. You will see goats, donkeys, horses, swallows, sparrows, butterflies and much more. I hope it never changes. It is so lovely. There was improvement work being carried out in the village. My husband regularly went out running early in the morning and struck up a friendship with one of the Cypriot builders and was even invited to go and play football! We hope to go back again and would like to bring our parents and 20 & 22 year old kids with us as it would be great to fill the villa and use the balconies upstairs for the magnificant views. If you usually head for the coast - why not try something a bit different and head for this charming Villa in the hills - I'm sure you would be pleasantly supprised :-)
we were not going to right a review on this accomodation, only because we did not want other people to know about it!!, but that would not be fair on the owner or the agents, we will keep it brief, as all we have to say has already been said in the last review's, and they are spot on with what they say.
Marie Taverna is a must, really friendly, and the food is great.
The villa is out of the way, but car hire is included if you want it, take's approx 20/30 min to get to Paphos or Polis, but thats what we loved about it, away from the maddening crowds.
Costas, and his wife (the owners) are great people, they even left a mobile phone for our use, which in somecase's saves money as you wont get charged double when using you own, of course you will have to top it up if you use it, there is even a very good welcome pack to see you through the first day.
The agents description, and there swift reply to any questions was above expectations in this day and age, we can not recommend this villa enough.
A foot note, there is not a shop in the village, the nearest is approx 5km away, in the village of Polemi (the tulip village), this is well stocked, we would recommend you plan you food and water, and stock up, as we ended up going there about six times, we were told the tap water was drinkable we did use it for ice and for mixing the old ouzo, and had no ill affects, however this must be you choice,
All in all a very relaxing, holiday with views to die for
Mike & Helen
What can i say about our holiday in Cyprus, except it was great. Right from the first we knew we were going to love the villa. Everything was exactly as we had expected and moreso.
The two children spent most of the holiday in the lovely pool, except when going out on excursions, the adults just relaxed and drank in the wonderful views.
Our first night was spent in the local village at the taverna which is run by two very charming older brothers. We ended up eating there a couple of times and the food was fantastic, authentic Cyprus.
One of the unexpected things with the villa was the abundance of wildlife which we all enjoyed. From the lizards in the garden to the Red damsel flies hunting over the pool, the swallows and bats swooping in to drink from the pool and the incredible owl who paid us a visit on our last but one evening.
All in all a great holiday. We are already planning our return visit next year.
Just a couple thing to add to make it a 6 star occasion, the pool lit at night would have been a real bonus and the pictures on the web site do not do the villa juctice, it is way way better.
Thanks from the whole family.
Just back from 2 weeks at Villa Eleni and missing it terribly! The fabulous position of the property guarantees total privacy. The peace and quiet has to be experienced to be believed. The photos of the stunning views really do not do Eleni justice. They will take your breath away! Easy run from Paphos Airport (half hour) and Polis within 20 minutes for shopping.
Lasa and Phiti remain untouched by tourism though having said that the locals speak good English and are extremely welcoming and friendly. Marias Taverna is a must for superb Cypriot Cuisine and the Meze is FAB!
Eleni is very well equipped and has full air-con which was needed in the bedrooms from day 1. The fact that it is free is a huge bonus! The 'Welcome Pack' was brilliant with everything needed for a couple of days, even Wine! Costas and Skevi, the owners of the Villa are lovely people. They will visit maybe a couple times a week just to water plants and tend the pool. This is usually done in the evenings so as not to disrupt quality sunbathing time. Very helpful and informative should you have any questions for them. Already told them of our intentions to return next year!
Apart from a couple of trips out to discover some of the Islands fantastic scenery (Troodos Mountains Fantastic!) we spent all day by the pool enjoying watching the local farmers going about their work and the ladies tending goatherds which was lovely to watch. When the sun start to set it is amazing with the most vibrant colours we have seen anywhere, again, breathtaking! When it is a little cooler in the evening Phiti has loads of walking opportunities in and around the small fields and olive groves, vineyards etc. The scenery is stunning!
Letting Agent couldn't be more helpful/honest and all enquiries were dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Faultless. Hire car is a must and will be waiting for you at the Airport.
To sum up, if you are looking for a truly tranquil holiday with guaranteed R&R then Eleni would be extremely hard to beat!
Loved it there!
Just 25 minutes from Paphos and 15 minutes from Polis the village of Phiti and it's neighbour Lasa attract more and more people each year. Its surrounding countryside is superb for walking or birdwatching. There is one small shop in village, 2 tavernas and the famous museum of lace. The nearest large supermarket is on the way to Paphos some 20 minutes away. The drive through the vineyards to Phiti from Paphos is quite exquisite.
Golf: Paphos is the new jewel in the crown for golfers seeking golf breaks in the warmth of the eastern Mediterranean. It offers golfers challenging world class championship courses, warm hospitality and almost year round sunshine. There are two 18 hole golf courses to choose from. Tsada Golf Club which is just 20 minutes from Paphos town, on an elevated position 550 meters above sea level to ensure cool breezes during the summer months. It plays to a par 72 and measures 6,060 meters. The Secret Valley Golf Club is 18 kilometres east of Paphos lying within a scenic valley and offers panoramic views. It plays to a par 72 and measures 6,120 metres. The very newest addition is the luxurious Aphrodite Hills it plays to par 70 and with a course length of 6,299 metres.
