This is a huge and elegant duplex apartment filled with original art. It is 1,980 Sq. Ft., Sleeps 8 - 9, and is spread over two levels in the old Hotel Mazin built in 1728 that is registered in the French heritage list. In this building lived, among others, Sacha Guitry (author, actor and director) and the Marquis de Lafayette. This highly sought after area is the triangle formed by the Place de la Concorde, the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Madeleine, and is only a few steps from the Rue Faubourg Saint-Honore luxury shopping district. The Paris Opera, Louvre Museum and the Boulevard Haussmann (Printemps and Galeries Lafayette) are a ten minute walk as are the Elysee Palace (residence of the President of the Republic) and the most prominent embassies. The flower gardens of the Tuileries and the Champs-Elysees are nearby. To visit Paris you can take the Metro lines 1, 8, 12 and 14, and buse lines 42, 52, 72 and 84.
Guests have the entire duplex apartment on the 3rd and 4th floors of this historic building. Access is via a circular staircase with a private entry located in the carriage passage as you approach the hotel "Marquis St-Honoré". The main entrance of the apartment is on the 3nd floor.
This Main Floor contains an entryway, used as a library that also provides direct access to the main salon, the dining room, the kitchen, and the stairs to the top floor. All the rooms have good light from large windows overlooking the interior courtyard or the street.
The living room is beautifully appointed with an eclectic mixture of classic antiques and a mixture of ultra-modern, contemporary, and art deco pieces. There is plenty of space and an impressive private collection of art on the walls complimented with sculptures.
Also on this main level, the master bedroom suite with en-suite bathroom and an office area is accessed directly from the large dining room. It has a King size bed; book lined walls, and a large flat screen TV with DVD player. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with an elevated bathtub, double wash basins, a full separate walk-in shower and a separate toilet.
The completely equipped family size kitchen includes a full size refrigerator with freezer, two ovens, a dishwasher, washing machine, and a gas cook-top with an electric griddle. There is plenty of counter space for food preparation and a large table in the center for casual dining.
The dining room is furnished with a large square table that seats eight and a stunning collection of original Salvador Dalí lithographs covers the walls.
The top level of the apartment is located on the 4th floor and accessed by an interior staircase. At the top of the staircase there is a family/game room with that has second flat screen TV with DVD and a double sofa-bed that can be used to sleep two. There is also a full bathroom that has a bathtub with wall shower, basin, and toilet. This level also has a long hall providing access to three small bedrooms under the sloped roof, each with skylights. The apartment has four separate bedrooms (the Master Suite on the lower floor and three bedrooms on the upper floor)…. and a fifth if you count the family room.
The three upstairs bedrooms with skylights have the following bed configurations:
1. Standard Double Bed
2. Small Double Bed (two children or small adults) usually used as a single.
3. Single Bed.
The total sleeping configuration is extremely flexible and offers 4-5 separated sleeping areas (four bedrooms plus the upstairs TV room) and beds for 8-9 people (including the small double bed if used for two).
RESTRICTIONS: No Smoking, No Pets, and because of the building heritage, it is not allowed to have parties in the apartment. Occupants must be able to use the circular staircase…. 53 steps!
My family and I had a wonderful time in this apartment. I am so sick of hotels, so we decided to try something different and this apartment is pretty special. The upstairs bedrooms are smaller and best for the kids, but the master is beautiful. The rooms themselves were clean and super interesting, and the art really makes the place unique. The beds were comfy enough and my kids really enjoyed having their own rooms and not having to share. Hopefully we can come back someday.
We had a lovely Christmas week in Paris staying at this apartment which was certainly large enough for 8. The first floor was so beautiful and plenty of room for dinner or relaxing in the living room. Romain was very helpful and there is a detailed book of everything you need to know about the neighborhood and the apartment. While I agree with the previous review that the upstairs is certainly not as nice as the apartment's first floor, the beds were all very comfortable.
This property is 3 1/2 stars in my opinion but I cannot give half stars.
The apartment is in a very cool location in arr. 8. Nice hotels and many foreign embassies in the area. Convenient location for seeing the inner-Paris landmarks.
The apartment needs to be reviewed by level. The first level (on the 3rd floor) is nicely decorated and is in good living condition. Lots of room to hang out. The kitchen is well-appointed. The master suite and bathroom are large, comfortable, and in good shape. The upper level (on the 4th floor) is a bit underwhelming. There are three very small kids rooms but are comfortable and clean. The bathroom upstairs is kind of nasty and in need of some repair. If you don't need the upstairs or if the upstairs was remodeled, this property would get 4 stars.
Wow! I was surprised with this unique apartment in Madeleine. The French heritage building is simply breathtaking on its own. As an art lover it was like sleeping in an art gallery. Each room is uniquely decorated and offers something for everyone to enjoy. The master bathroom is just gorgeous with its deep tub which I thoroughly enjoyed. The upstairs bedrooms are for the kids. There is plenty of room for an entire family but it is also perfect for a couple's retreat - all the art is downstairs! Romain was gracious and took time to go over everything and the whole experience was very easy.
