There is also a chemist, doctors, dentist, schools, hairdressers, a good selection of shops and numerous tapas bars and restaurants where you can sample the local produce and mingle with the friendly locals.
This is one of the areas where tapas are free with drinks.
The larger town of Adra with a population of 25000 inhabitants and industrial fishing port has a more comprehensive selection of shops and can be reached in ten minutes .
Almeria is only a fifty minute drive away and with the opening of the last stretch of the A6 motorway Motril can now be reached in thirty minutes.
Nearest airports are Almeria, Granada and Malaga which can be reached in 50 minutes and ninety minutes respecilvely. There is also a good bus route provided by which runs from larger towns and cities to the village
La Rabita remains unspoiled by mass tourism and is very popular with Spanish during ecaping from the heat in the cities.
There are several fiestas during the year to include San Juan in June and the virgin of the sea on the 6th, 7th and eighth of September.
The neighbouring village of Albuñol has a large horse fair every year on the 30th and 31st of October and 1st of November, the 1st of November is when the horses are there.
