Seven Generations of our family have enjoyed Bluff Cottage, built at the turn of the 20th century. We are the stewards of an amazing spot and hail from Canada, the Midwest, Florida and New England to share in her beauty and the beauty of her quite surroundings.
Courtney Ogg-Mancuso purchased this cottage in 1900
Wonderful Place, the view was incredible. Would consider renting this home again. A few problems but owner took care of everything immediately. Was quiet and very relaxing.
Somewhere north of 20 years ago, my family stayed in this cottage. We loved every minute! Just two weeks ago we rented this ideal spot again as it is large enough to accommodate the whole family - grandparents, children and grandchildren. What a joy! Loved the improvements - Wi-fi, washer/dryer and boathouse. The photos posted are absolutely representative of the property as is the description. This is a quiet spot not too far from Blue Hill with its Down East sophistication and just a tad further to the town on Deer Isle and Stonington. I cannot say enough about visiting the Stonington Lobster Co-op to pick out your own special "bugs". Nearby Bucks Harbor is a delight and, although the sign no longer hangs outside, One Morning In Maine lovers will recognize the real Condon's Garage. There is dramatic - home is perched on a bluff. There is easy kayak entry on the beach (this is a Maine beach - do not read "sand"), plenty of grass for a game of tag. I cannot say enough about Bluff. The only caveat to a stay at Bluff would apply also to most cottages nearby - this is not glitz, this is not hustle-bustle, this is not a million distractions, this place is not about frenzied activity. It is about peace, beauty, clean air, clear water, and time to decompress. It is perfect. Oh, and ps - I forgot the screen porch. A blessing in the evening!
I am checking below "families with young children" but understand they will bear watching.
Quaint and Quiet. Beautiful and Undisturbed. Brooksville and the Blue Hill peninsula are quintessential Maine. Sweeping Views of Eggomoggin Reach and Pumpkin Lighthouse that will bring your family back year after year. Hiking, Golf, fishing, little places to discover, local food and people who love what they do and it shows. Relax, unwind, get lost - and have a jewel like Bluff to call home during your stay. Lobster dinners, farmer's market, 44 North Coffee roasters, so many things and places to discover. Our beach holds its own magic with sea urchins, star fish and crab to find. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, golfing, are all just a step outside however the best part of Bluff Cottage is the porch - with your rocking chair perched to see the passing schooners like the Victory Chimes or to just enjoy a sunset you will leave feeling like they got the license plates right in Maine, "The Way Life Should Be". Bar Harbor is an hours drive and Acadia National Park is a great way to explore Maine, closer to Brooksville is the Holbrook Sanctuary on Cape Rosier where the treasures of Maine's woods have been preserved and there is trailhead after trailhead to discover. While on Cape Rosier an incredible all season farm makes for a great stop with an incredible variety of lovingly grown produce. Stonington and Deer Isle have a special charm and beauty that is not to be missed and yes - The Stonington Lobster Pound sells directly to the public - YUM, doesn't get any fresha'. Come explore of Blue Hill, Surry, Ellsworth and the Penobscot Peninsula and enjoy the incredible beauty of the lush pine woods meeting the salty rocky seashore - MAINE.
