Overview

About the property

Advocates Apartment - Bright, lofty, views down Royal Mile close to attractions

An excellent self catering apartment in a Grade A listed building opposite St. Giles Cathedral. The apartment is situated on the first floor and can be accessed from either the typical Edinburgh communal stairwell which is in Advocate's Close; or by its own private entrance from the High Street itself. If you enter from the High Street there are plenty of viewing areas where you can sit at the window and watch the busy coming and goings in arguably one of the most popular areas in Edinburgh, the Old Town and Royal Mile. As the name implies this is one of the oldest streets in Edinburgh, dating back to 1544.

However there is nothing old and dated in the apartment, this is a well equipped and pleasant apartment with quality furniture and finished to a high standard. In the sitting room there is seating for 4 people as well as a dining table and chairs. The lounge also has a digital TV with freeview, CD and DVD player. Wi-fi is also available. The kitchen is very well supplied with all the mod cons you would expect to see in a self catering apartment. There is an electric oven and hob, washer drier as well as fridge freezer and microwave. The bathroom is a good size with bath and electric shower over. There is a double bedroom, and an additional sofa bed in the lounge meaning the apartment can reasonably accommodate 2+2 people. Electric panel heaters are located throughout and can each be altered to your preference of temperature.

Advocates Close Apartment is a nicely furnished, bright and spacious self catering holiday apartment in a historic Grade A listed building, which is situated in the centre of the Royal Mile opposite St Giles Cathedral.

Sorry, no stag and hen or party groups accepted.

Parking: The owner has a free parking space available which is a 15 minute walk from the apartment. The best way to get around Edinburgh is by foot, although there are plenty of good and regular bus services operated by Lothian Regional Transport (LRT) and lots of taxis to help you get around.

Accessibility: Please note this apartment is on the first floor and can be accessed by climbing 12 short steps. The building is Grade A listed.

Our opinion: You are literally in the heart of Edinburgh so this is a great spot to absorb all the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Edinburgh. As it is in the thick of the action it may not be the quietest street in Edinburgh because so much is happening. But if you want a central base to explore the city and be part of it, then this is the perfect place.

Location

Other Activities:

The Old Town of Edinburgh consists originally of the main street, the Royal Mile, and a number of small alleyways and courtyards that lead off it to the north and south. These were normally named after the trade that was carried out by one of more of the residents in that building - hence Advocate's Close. One end of the Royal Mile is the Castle itself and Royal Observatory and to the other end is Holyrood Palace all within an easy stroll from the apartment. There are numerous bars, cafes, restaurants and speciality shops all along the Royal Mile - so plenty to do just walking up and down this street. This is also the main area for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, as all acts will congregate here to showcase their shows. Off the Royal Mile you have the Mound leading down into Princes Street and to the New Town of Edinburgh - this is no more than a 10-15 minute walk, or longer depending on how long you take to walk and look at all the grand buildings around. However if you want to escape the shopping and activity - 10 minutes in the opposite direction will take you past the National Museum and on to The Meadows which is a great park and worth a visit to get a different view of the City.

Our opinion: You are literally in the heart of Edinburgh so this is a great spot to absorb all the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Edinburgh. As it is in the thick of the action it may not be the quietest street in Edinburgh because so much is happening. But if you want a central base to explore the city and be part of it, then this is the perfect choice.
