This 1885 carriage house in the historic Lincolnville neighborhood is just minutes from the historic town square and dozens of excellent restaurants (many of which allow pets), museums and original plus re-constructed historic buildings. Flagler College is 2 blocks away. St George Street, the heart of the historic district, is just 3 blocks away and runs down to our most famous landmark, the Castillo de San Marcos Spanish fort. From the quiet and peaceful balcony you’ll enjoy church bells and the sound of horse drawn carriages passing by, all under the canopy of our 250+ year old Live Oak tree.
Two houses down an excellent new restaurant opened 5/16 in the house built for Thomas Jeffersons grand daughter. The Carriage House is non-smoking and pet friendly.
Florida natives; me from Lakeland and Pat from Jacksonville. St Augustine has always been our favorite city. Nearly everything in St Augustine's historic district is authentic, and you can feel the citys history as you walk the cobblestone streets. Almost 5 years ago we purchased two beachfront town house units and discovered the fun of vacation rentals. Parking in downtown St Augustine is no fun. We knew any property we chose had to be within easy walking distance, and this carriage house is perfect: close in and historic on its' own. When we can get away from our parrots, Guineas, peacocks, dogs, cats, horses, one rescue pony, one resident wild deer we head to The Olde City. Coming from a 55 acre farm 15 miles from anywhere to St Augustine is a treat we thoroughly enjoy.
Barry Fouts purchased this house in 2015
Location is everything, and this property proves that theorem. Clean, modern appliances, yet historic under a 250+ yr old Live Oak tree and walk everywhere with our dogs. Sitting on the balcony after a day of sight seeing is wonderfully relaxing.
In 1930 this carriage house was deeded away from the main house. It has no backyard, but a deep front yard able to park 4 cars, even a 30' motorhome. Most houses in this area were built on the edge of the street, and have only on-street parking. Being two story allows a restful view of the occasional passing horse drawn carriages while relaxing on the shaded balcony. In April we enjoyed watching hawks nesting in the oak trees, and squirrels sounding their alarms. We enjoy calling for a pedicab to ride us and our dogs to our favorite dog-friendly restaurants. For tips only (usually $10 per ride) the young men drivers give a guided tour on the way and tips on best places to eat, etc.
The Carriage House was very clean and well equipped. We loved our stay in St Augustine and having a nice stable place to stay made it that much more fun. We would stay there again if you go back to St. Augustine.
Owners went above and beyond to provide everything to make this visit more than we could have wished for. Beds are very good, no complaints, and plenty of room to accommodate my party of six. Love this home inside and out. If you are looking for a place to stay near Old Town do not miss renting. I would love to revisit and stay here again. Many thanks to Barry and Pat for sharing your hidden treasure we thoroughly enjoyed!
We loved this home! We travel quite a bit and often use VRBO. We have a dog and 2 children. I honestly could never do this home justice with my words. The place is lovely, set up very well. Very clean and had everything you could possibly need. We all felt right at home. We walked everywhere we went . Owner told us about a few places to eat. We really enjoyed the restaurant 2 doors down. Talk about location! Overall just a wonderful place to stay. I can't imagine anyone renting this home and not being happy with everything it has to offer. This will definitely be our St. Augustine go to place!
We loved this place! It was quaint and located in a neighborhood close to downtown St Augustine within a very short walk or bike ride to restaurants, attractions and the beach. We spent a great deal of time riding bikes, exploring the old neighborhoods, waterfront, fort, Bridge of Lions, and other historic areas. The house was clean, well appointed and very private. It easily slept three couples and the outdoor balcony and patio were great for morning coffee and evening happy hours. Fully outfitted kitchen---you could cook full meals. We chose to eat in the great local restaurants, mainly local seafood. The owner was nearby but everything had been so well maintained and prepared in advance, we never required assistance. Would definitely recommend to a friend, but our closest ones were with us! Great weekend getaway close to Iceplant and Preserved Restaurants (loved both); Lightner Museum and Flagler are easy walk away. We rode bikes to the lighthouse and highly recommend a trip to the top and a visit to its keeper's house and museum. We attended a Beachboys concert at the nearby amphitheater--great venue. Great place to stay for a long weekend or more. Want to return!
Look no further!!! 5 Stars!!! Just like a bed and breakfast, this charming carriage home was in a great location and very well kept!
The home was exactly as described by the description online. All the comforts of home were provided as
well as detailed check-in/ check-out instructions. We were able to walk to most of the historical sites which was a big
plus for us. Great communication with Barry via text worked best for us as well.
Overall, perfect stay! We would definitely recommend this beautifully decorated home for your next
visit to the historical district of St. Augustine. We'll be sure to book again with the Fout's at their Carriage Home
for any return visits in the future!
Stayed here for a birthday celebration with Family. Really enjoyed the house! Everything was super clean. Plenty of room. The balcony was nice. Lots of parking for friends that stopped by. Not a bad walk to George Street. Quiet. I'm so glad we stayed here instead of a local hotel.
This 1885 carriage house in the historic Lincolnville neighborhood is just a few minutes walk from the town square and dozens of excellent restaurants, museums and original plus re-constructed historic buildings. Flagler College is 2 ½ blocks away. St George Street, the heart of the historic/tourist district, is just 3 blocks away and runs down to our most famous landmark, the Castillo de San Marcos Spanish fort. From the quiet and peaceful second floor veranda you’ll enjoy church bells and horse drawn carriages passing by, all under the canopy of our 250+ year old Live Oak tree. Last year hawks raised their babies less than 20' from the balcony.
Two doors away an excellent restaurant named Preserved just opened 5/16, in the house built for Thomas Jefferson’s great granddaughter. We’re loving walking two doors down for lunch.
