About Sue Jaffer
I (Sue) am Australian, but lived in England for nearly 20 years. My husband Nick is English, originally from Derbyshire, and his brother and sisters still live in the UK. We brought our children, James and Rachel, up in a village in the Chilterns. Today we live in Melbourne, Australia but come to UK frequently, to see family and because of Nick's academic work at Oxford.
Sue Jaffer purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Sue Jaffer chose Wirksworth
We think Acacia Cottage is special - quiet, very well appointed and with wonderful views from every window. The Peak District is a magical place, with lots of history and spectacular scenery. Whatever you like doing - eating, walking, cycling, shopping, driving around - the area can cater for you. We are close to the Southern end of the Peak District rail trail - you can hire cycles at Middleton Top - and less than one hour's drive to the High Peak with its caves and mountains. Wirksworth, Cromford and Ashbourne have good restaurants. Matlock Bath and Matlock are within 15 minutes drive. For children there are the attractions at Abraham's Heights, Carsington Water and - not too far away - Alton Towers. If you like stately homes, we are close to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. There are many gardens you can visit, including Lea Rhododendrum Gardens just across the valley. The local train line is easy to get to, about 20 minutes into Derby (with free parking at the station). If you like history, the museum of Arkwright's Mill at Cromford is a must. Canal walks are also a local feature, from Cromford.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our cottage is the ideal base for a relaxing holiday. Blossoms in spring, wonderful colours in autumn, rural views all year round. Local walks to Black Rocks are lovely, and Wirksworth is a charming town with a thriving hobby railway. Bolehill is on the edge of the Peak District, with Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers, the High Peak and Bakewell all within easy driving distance. There are good local restaurants in Ashbourne, Matlock and Wirksworth, with many gastro pubs a short drive away.

Lovely property which met all our needs.
The property was well situated with lovely views across to Wirksworth. It was a good base to explore popular parts of Derbyshire. Just need to mention a couple of things which the owner may not be aware of. We arrived in pouring rain and there was a possible problem with gutter just above the main entrance as water was gushing down. The only other thing was that the baking trays were past their best - we were cooking meals every night and needed to use them. It didn't become a problem. Overall we had a wonderful week and would certainly return again..
Thank you for letting us know about the gutter and the baking tray. We will look to see if there is a blockage, and will get some new trays. Glad you had a wonderful time!
Outstanding property, Outstanding views
Property was exactly as described in the listing, clean and comfortable. The property is not easy to find but the host provided excellent instructions prior to our arrival and we went straight there. We absolutely loved our stay and look forward to returning there when we next visit the area.
Beautiful well appointed cottage
An amazing place that really lived up to all the positives written about it.
Beautifully renovated. Amazing views. Parking a bit tricky.
Enjoyed a family break.
Loved the views from the cottage, the sunroom and the terrace .
Surrounding countryside impressive and plenty to do and see.
Visited the National Stone Centre and Chatsworth and visited friends and family in Derbyshire.
Found the sitting room uncomfortable for TV viewing because the tv position was too high!
Lovely house with everything we needed.
The house was beautiful, it was clean but let down by not being spotlessly clean. The towels smelled musty as if they were folded before they were fully dry. There were plenty of games and info on the local area. We all had a great time and loved the countryside. The views from the house are amazing. It was a pity there was no facility to recycle our plastic, glass etc.
Thanks for your comments. We will check the towels and cleaning. There are two bins behind the sunroom, one of which is marked for recycling. Sorry you missed it (there is a note in the instructions explaining about the bins and where to find them).
Second year running. Wonderful place!!
Our family met up here. Lovely spot and everything you need!
The view is beautiful!!
Alton Towers, a major theme park, is about 45 mins drive away
Haddon Hall is close by, and Chatsworth House around 30 mins.
