Overview

About the property

Amazing views! Sleeps 6+2, spacious accommodation over two floors, close to sea

With wonderful views overlooking Gourdon Harbour to one side and the open ocean to the other, Gowan Bank (formerly Heron House) offers well-appointed comfortable accommodation with a twin and a double room, travel cot, newly refurbished kitchen and relaxing lounge. Gowan Bank has a small 'sun trap' deck behind the property, a large book exchange and speedy Wifi along with a television and DVD player, a coffee machine and a dining table with an amazing view out to sea. The owner has supplied maps and local information and knows the local area well.

Gourdon is situated between Aberdeen and Dundee on the North East Coast of Scotland. Around the local area are walks, mountain biking, bird watching, skiing, castles, beaches, swimming pools within 10 miles each direction and museums, historical fishing villages and larger towns. (see below)

Aberdeen and Dundee (both an hour by bus, 45 mins by car) offer cinemas, good shopping, larger museums such as Discovery Quay which contains Captain Scott's RSS Discovery, and all the amenities of the city, with good transport links in both directions. Both cities have airports and car hire availabilty.

Gourdon itself is a small fishing village with a working harbour and has a shop, fish and chip restaurant, the lovely Harbour Bar (directly opposite), local fish shops on the harbour itself, coastal walks in either direction, playparks and a tennis court, that locals are in the process of renovating. One mile away in Inverbervie there are further cafes, restaurants and shops, a reliable local taxi firm, Bervie Cabs, and a small supermarket. Gowan Bank would make an ideal Writers' or Artists' retreat or a great place to use as a base to explore the surrounding area.

Just a few of the local attractions.... Stonehaven, 10 miles to the north has the only heated outdoor swimming pool in Scotland and the amazing Fireballs Ceremony at New Year, plus the Tollbooth Museum and Dunottar Castle, one of the most breathtaking castles in Scotland. In Arbroath, you can visit Arborath Abbey, the lighthouse museum, in Montrose there is an Air Heritage museum, with lots of interest for everyone. St Cyrus has miles of unspolit golden sandy beach and a nature reserve. There is lots to do in the local area for children. If the weather is mixed there are many indoor play centres and other attractions. To the north is Banchory, Ballater, home of Balmoral and the hills...

We regret that pets are not allowed at Gowan Bank.

About Emma Myatt

I'm a writer and teacher who runs Gowan Bank as a holiday let/writer's retreat. I know the local area well and I'm always on hand to answer any questions you may have during your stay, as I live close to Gowan Bank itself. I love living in Scotland although I'm English by birth.

Why Emma Myatt chose Gourdon

Gowan Bank offfers incredible views over Gourdon Harbour and the open sea. Take a walk on the rocky beach and go rockpooling, eat local fish and chips on the harbour a minute's walk away, sip cool beer in the pub on the harbourside... come and enjoy the relaxing environment of Gowan Bank. Whether you plan to use it as a base to explore the surrounding area or explore the locality Gowan Bank is perfect. There's enough to do to in the local area (and slightly further afield, an hour in any direction) to keep a family happy on holiday for a month, but you could pack every in in two weeks if you wanted, or just come back another year...

What makes this apartment unique

The views made me fall in love with Gowan Bank. I could sit and stare out of the windows for hours on end...And I love the 'feel' of the flat, it's got a friendly feeling! The real fire makes cooler evenings cosy whilst on warm summer nights you can sit and enjoy the last rays of sun on the sun deck.

Amazing Home on the Seaside

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Not only was the flat clean and comfortably but it had a cozy feel with an inviting fire when we arrived. Our hostess, Emma, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating to our family of 7. She checked on us a couple of times to ensure that our stay was comfortable and she offered such a friendly welcoming environment. Each one of us felt at home in this cute flat over-looking the sea. I would highly recommend staying here every chance you get. The village itself was lovely and the views from the window were breath-taking. It is the perfect get away near Dunnottar Castle in Aberdeen. I recommend staying longer than the two days we did just to really be able to settle in and see the surrounding area. Wonderful place and a great price!

Entspannung pur!

  • 5 of 5
