Why Steve chose Lassithi

This property was selected before the Villa itself had been built. there was a choice of several plots at the time but this plot stood out as the ideal spot to get wonderful views of the entire bay with further views across the Agean towards Sitia. The colour of the Sea literally changes every hour throughout the course of the day, it is a magical location and most perfect spot for a relaxing or adventurous holiday.

What makes this villa unique

The views, food and Cretan hospitality.

relaxing one week stay in nice villa

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed with 2 kids (16 and 13) for one week in Mavrikiano. Just up the hill you have a great view over the bay and especially in the morning it was great to see the sun rising above the mountains. We have made a few trips from Elounda to Spina Longa and to the Lassithi heights. Close to the villa there is great snorkling opportunities. Just 100 mtr down the hill there is a typical greek restaurant with local product. Reservation necessary because good ratings (trip advisor) has put it in the spotlights. Especially english tourists were regular visitors. Other restaurants were in the village (10 min walk). Especially the friendly greek people and the relaxed atmosphere ( you do not have to pay for your sunbeds on the beach for instance) and the relatively cheap food made it feel a great holiday.

The house itself, apart from the sights over the bay, was great: very clean, the pool not so big but great to dip in after we came home or just, when the morning was hot, before breakfast. The bedrooms had good quiet airco. My son slept on the couch in the living room so in fact all 3 of us has a separate bedroom.

Wonderful honeymoon at Villa Mavrikiano

  • 5 of 5

The booking process proved remarkably easy and Steve was a great help with advising car hire companies, directions etc. In the end we used www.thebest.gr for our car hire - who were a good price. The drive over to Elounda isn't too bad at all but it's worth researching 'driving in Crete' before you go!

When we arrived at the villa we were met by Ken. I did drive past the hill once and it took me a couple of attempts to get our 4x4 up the hill until I followed Ken's advice and floored it in first gear! After that advice, the hill was never a problem again.

First impressions were unbelievable, you can see right through the villa to the pool and terrace. We were really impressed and thankful that the owners (knowing that it was our honeymoon) had got us a huge bunch of flowers and extra wine - very thoughtful. The welcome pack was also excellent and had enough to keep us going. The cleanliness of the villa was also of a high standard. I was really impressed when Ken showed us the motorised shutters that you could adjust. These kept the villa not only cool but secure.

The villa is finished to a great standard and is nice and modern. The kitchen got plenty of use for mid day meals and we usually ate out at night. There are lots of dvd's and books and games in the villa, the dvd's are useful as even though there is satellite TV Greece really doesn't get many English channels. We didn't really need the TV though as the views are the real draw here. We spent hours in the evening sitting on the promenade having a G&T catching the end of the sun. I'd sit with my camera and we'd watch the boats coming in and out of Elounda. After a shower (two great bathrooms) we'd have a wine on the second bedroom balcony. We always used that one as it was completely private and none overlooked.

In the day the pool area was just brillaint - a real suntrap and the pool got cleaned twice per week. Location of the villa is unrivalled in Elounda. 10 minutes walk to main square and about 5 to the beach.

In the evenings we'd often walk to 'The Hope' before heading down for a meal. Loved all the restaurants, especially Kantouni.

Would definitely recommend this villa, great service, excellent owner and brilliant location! We will book again. Thanks Steve and Dee

A wonderful holiday in Elounda

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in this villa in Mavrikiano, with its wonderful views from the terrace and the two balconies across the Bay of Elounda. The pool is lovely for cooling off in and we spent many a happy afternoon wallowing in it! There are three very good restaurants a short walk from the villa and Elounda itself is about 10 minutes walk away and has a whole host of restaurants, tavernas and gift shops. There are loads of places to swim within easy reach and I enjoyed some very good snorkelling. The villa itself is spotlessly clean and well maintained and has everything you need for a perfect holiday.

Great villa and amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

We are a Canadian family of 5 (2 adults and 3 young children) and we spent a week in this great villa in July during our 4-week holiday in Greece. The location is pretty hard to beat: very close de Elounda (walking-distance!) but higher-up, with a beautiful view. The villa has a small pool and there are excellent restaurants very very close to the villa. It was great to be able to walk to town, to the supermarket and to the restaurants. From the villa, we were able to visit Spinalonga, Agios Nikolaos, the Panagia Kera and the village of Kristsa, the Lassithi Plateau and the Diction Andron (the grotto where Zeus was raised) as well as the villages close by. There is a nice beach, very family-oriented, right in Elounda where we would often finish our days. We highly recommend this villa. Thanks Steve! And thanks to your agent as well who helped us out that first morning, when we arrived (I forget his name!).

Great location with simply stunning views

  • 5 of 5

I booked a late 3 night holiday for my wife and I, who is 25 weeks pregnant. All we wanted was a few days away relaxing in the sun, this villa was perfect for that, with simply stunning views over the port and sea from both bedroom balconies, and pool side sun terrace. Our little break was perfect from the moment we booked it through homeaway.co.uk and had instant communication with the owner to the moment we returned home.

The villa had everything we required, upstairs were 2 very comfy and clean, air conditioned double bedrooms with one having en-suite and the other being right next to a separate shower room, both of which had decent wet room showers! Each room had their own spacious balcony with a table and two chairs over looking the port, this view was breath taking at sunrise, and a must see. Downstairs was open plan with kitchen, dining room and living area, with two wide patio doors leading out to the swimming pool and sun terrace beyond! Each door/window had its own sliding mosquito net and electric shutter. The pool was immaculately clean and adequately sized with walk in steps, but the best thing was it had a resistance jet option should you wish to do alittle exercise, which turned a small pool into an endless ocean. There was a gas BBQ beside the pool side table and chairs should you wish to use it and comfortable sun loungers and parasol, which was positioned at the far end to maximise the time in the sun before it set behind the mountains.

The villa was the last of four on the hillside behind a secure gate, with all four of them being well build to ensure maximum views and privacy with this villa not being overlooked at all. There is parking right outside the front door for two cars, I would suggest a hire car is a must due to its location and size of the island, however dispite being situated up a steep hill the villa is only approximately 1 kilometre away from Elounda and the hill was safe and easily manageable for my 25 week pregnant wife to walk up and down each day slowly, and the views made it well worth it!

Being there for only 4 days we chose to eat out each night but didn't need to venture any further than Elounda. I recommend eating at Lotus Eaters restaurant and Kanali restaurant, both of which will more than likely require a reservation due to their quality Mediterranean/seafood/Greek food and popularity.

I would greatly recommend this villa and happily return ourselves.

The best Villa reviews in Elounda, this is a perfect place to enjoy your holiday, thats what other people are saying so please take time to read the reviews from other Cretan holiday makers. The villa is set in an elevated position occupying a beautiful end plot of only 4 villas with uncompromising views across the Mirabello bay, the Villa is in secure area about 400 meters walk to the beaches and sea. Just a short walk further along the promenade brings you to a selection of Tavernas, Supermarkets and the famous holiday resort of Elounda. The area is good for water based activities, walking, and site seeing and is only a short drive to the pleasant regional town of Agios Nikolaos. This is a perfect place to relax and unwind and enjoy the friendliness of a wonderful Cretan town with so much to offer.
