Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Otterton - 2 Jacketts Cottages

2 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4

Jacketts is an old cob farmhouse in a fantastic location on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Otterton. Now divided into two cottages Jacketts 2 makes a deceptively spacious and well appointed home away from home. It has a delightful Conservatory, ideal for those lazy breakfasts while the combined sitting/dinning has an Inglenook with modern gas log burner to warm any chilly nights. Upstairs the double bedroom has a lovely antique solid oak bed originally from Fineshade Abby and a modern semi ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has its own charm with more antique furniture. For a candle lit bath or the practicality of bathing the children the bonus of a downstairs bathroom gives that added flexibility.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the East Devon coast with fantastic local walks along the cliffs and nearby river while for the children there is everything from sandy beaches to adventure parks. This is picture postcard country and the ideal holiday home!

Eating out: The nearest place to eat out is just a few hundred yards away at Otterton Mill. This a working mill where you can see the grain being milled before buying the freshly baked bread or other local delights. The mill has an excellent licenced restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea, as well as a gallery and gift shop where the hidden talent of some of our local artists can be seen. The local pub is also very good but in the next village of East Budleigh there are two excellent pubs for food. In nearby Sidmouth there are a variety of modern wine bars, great restaurants and several old traditional pubs to choose from. Tearooms for the essential 'Devon cream tea' are too numerous to mention and in Budleigh Salterton you can find some of the best Ice cream in Devon.

A home from home in a beautiful part of Devon.

Jacketts was a surprise package for us, we booked fairly late & needed something that was a good deal but in the right location. We opened the door to be wowed by the space & neatness of the cottage, a real home from home & we settle right in. Otterton was an excellent base for seeing the whole area.

Owner's Response: How nice to have positive comments like this on my website. My visitors book has many other similar comments too - the spaciousness of the cottage certainly is a surprise package and I always try to aim for the highest standard with attention to detail. Its a wonderful area and many guests return for further holidays at Jacketts, which is the best recommondation I could have.

Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

An attractive, friendly village. Do visit the community shop. Lovely walks close by. The cottage has a spacious twin bedroom . The double bed is small but comfortable. The upstairs shower room is quite separate from both rooms. Downstairs is roomy and well equipped. Bring your own dishwasher tablets if you don't want to wash up by hand! Good to have a separate freezer. Enjoyed the airy sun lounge with its different feel from the cosy lounge. Mind the step down from the hallway door. 3 of us had a good break, watched the maypole dancing at East Budleigh and visited nearby Exmouth, Sidmouth and Charmouth.

Lovely stay at Jacketts

  • 4 of 5

Just returned from our mini break away staying the lovely little cottage Jacketts - would recommend this Cottage, very cosy feel to it, everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Nice little conservatory which opens out to a small peaceful court yard. We were very lucky to have good weather while we stayed which was great to enjoy the walk along the Otter trail. Would love to return again sometime.

Comfortable and surprisingly spacious cottage

  • 4 of 5

This traditional cob cottage, has good sized bedrooms and a spacious lounge with a lovely fireplace. The owner Mundi has thought of everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, whether for a short break or longer stay. There are lovely walks on the doorstep. I recommend walking down the coastal path to Budleigh Salterton then returning back along the river where you conveniently pass Otterton Mill where you can stop for coffee and cake! This cottage is ideal all year round, for cozy winter stays (in front of the fire!), enjoying the stunning countryside in spring and autumn and lovely summer coastal walks ... and a glass of wine in the sunny courtyard garden!

On arriving at Jackets we felt at home straight away, with milk and biscuits to make us welcome. Very cosy on a cold winter break. We will be back.

Lovely Home from Home Spacious Cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cottage, surprisingly spacious with everything you could possibly need for a super holiday or short break. Everything was clean and neat, the fire in the lounge was superb and enjoyed our cosy evenings in after some beautiful walks which were right on the doorstep. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage and the correspondence right throughout the enquiry and booking process was superb, thank you for a lovely stay Mundi and look forward to visiting in 2016

Otterton is a picture postcard pretty Devon village with a seasonal stream running through its heart with many 17th cob and thatch cottages & farmhouses. It lies 2 miles from the sea between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the east bank of the River Otter. The closest beaches are pebbly, ideal for evening BBQs but at Exmouth 8 miles away there is a long sandy beach ideal for children or even kite surfers! The area is within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with wonderfully varied walks - it's truly England at its best. Dartmoor is not far away for a more remote feel, while Exeter is only a 20min drive for everything a Historical Cathedral city has to offer. The Eden project is an accessible day trip but you'll also need a day for the children to go to Crealy Adventure park. There is no shortage of things to do in this area - castles like Powderham to visit, donkeys to ride, fossils to collect, plus many botanical gardens & National Trust properties like Killerton!

Other Activities: go-karting, adventure park.
