Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom rural cottage, outdoor activities, whisky trails, wildlife, fishing

Mains Cottage is a picturesque 2 Bedroom cottage located in the peaceful area of Glenlivet and can sleep up to 6 people. This cottage can give you the perfect rural retreat and is ideal for families, couples or groups who enjoy the outdoors as it is centrally placed to explore the Cairngorm National Park. Skiing, walking and cycling are just a few of the various activities that can be enjoyed from here with the Lecht and Cairngorm Ski centres both easily reached from the property and the Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trials are just 15 minutes away (lockable garage is available on request for outdoor equipment).

The towns of Aberlour and Dufftown are both just a short drive away and offer a good choice of shops and restaurants. The Glenfiddich, Aberlour, Glenfarclas and Glenlivet distilleries, being just a few to mention, are also within a short drive and all have visitor centres for you to learn about our local nectar, Speyside whisky. In fact, the Glenlivet distillery can be seen in the distance from the cottage and when the wind is in the right direction the heavenly aroma of the maltings can be detected.

The stunning beaches of the Moray coast are easily reachable within the hour by car and if your luck is in, dolphins can be spotted at Spey Bay. Inverness, Aberdeen, Loch Ness and John O’Groats are all reachable for exploring, plus plenty of castles, historic buildings and gardens are nearby to wander around.

After a busy day exploring come back to the cottage and prepare a tasty meal on the wonderful Rangemaster cooker using fresh ingredients sourced from the local area on your travels, then sit down with a dram from one of the many distilleries visited in the cosy living room with the log burner keeping you nice and warm. Look out for the variety of wildlife that can be seen from the cottage and binoculars are placed on the window sills for you to deer watch, bird watch or even a pine martin passing by. Free Wifi is available for you to find out how to make the most of the area.

The cottage can sleep 4 guests comfortably with a double bed and twin beds. However there is a double futon bed downstairs that can sleep an additional 2 guests at an extra cost. There is plenty of off road parking and pets by arrangement are welcome. Please Note: No mobile phone reception, however there is a telephone that can be used for emrgencies. The bedrooms have sloping ceilings and limited headroom on one side. Due to steep cottage stairs, the property is unsuitable for children aged 6 and under, and those with limited mobility. No smoking in the house please.

About Theresa and Graeme

We are a professional couple working in the healthcare sector, unfortunately this means that we cannot enjoy our cottage as much as we want to, so we would like to let others appreciate our cottage and the surrounding area.

What makes this cottage unique

As soon as you arrive at the cottage the peace and quiet dispels any stresses that you may have had. On a clear night just stand outside and look up at the milky way and all the thousands of stars all around you, without any light pollution. On an average day you would be lucky to see 5 cars going by during daylight hours!!

Great cottage in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for four nights at this cottage and it was a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. We were able to get into the Cairngorms very quickly and you can also be on the coast in less than an hour.

The remote setting of the cottage makes it a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. In addition there is a lovely pub, The Croft Inn, only 20 minutes walk away which has friendly staff and great food.

The cottage itself is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. If you're looking for a base to explore Speyside this is a great choice.

Scotland's Best-Scotch Whiskey Experiences

  • 5 of 5

This property is cute as a button! We were in whiskey country and took advantage of the tours and the local tourism. The property came with a fantastic cooking stove/oven even though we didn't use it. Wildlife is viewed from the windows of the kitchen and bedrooms. The tub is fantastic but hot water is limited. Shower is above the tub and when used will run onto the floor even with the shower curtain pulled. We were a party of 4 adults and we enjoyed this property immensely! We recommend it to anyone wanting a true Scottish experience.

Marvellous time at mains cottage. Peaceful and tranquil but within easy distance of everything

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely break. Beautiful surroundings. A lovely place to really kick back and relax. Wonderful walks and central for all distilleries if that's your interest. It was the purpose of our trip so of interest to us. The Croft Inn run by Alan and Helena was truly marvellous. Only a short car ride away or a lovely 20 minute walk Wonderful food and brilliant hospitality. Made our stay all the more special. Thank you Theresa and Graham

Rustig plekje in de Speyside

  • 5 of 5

Prachtige omgeving, er kwamen wel 6 auto's voorbij op een dag. Links in het dal lag de Glenlivit distillery. Mooie omgeving voor wandelinge, whiskeyproeverijen etc.
