Swan View is a beautiful Cotswold stone cottage, set in the heart of the charming village of Southrop, surrounded by the stunning Cotswolds countryside. The River Leach runs past the village and there are an abundance of walks from the doorstep of the cottage. Southrop is also fortunate to have a very well regarded country pub, and is well placed for exploring the wider Cotswold region, with Burford, the "gateway to the Cotswolds" close by, and Cirencester, the largest market town in the Cotswolds, just 12 miles away. Slightly further afield places, such as Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are within easy reach, and day trips to London are also possible.

This lovely semi-detached property has wooden floors, exposed Cotswold stone walls in the sunny conservatory, and a cosy wood and coal burning stove in the living room. The character of the cottage is complemented by modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a SMART TV and a well presented kitchen.

Swan View sleeps 3+1 people, in two bedrooms (with the +1 option being a pull-out bed in bedroom 2), with one bathroom and a ground floor cloakroom. There is a lovely, well-established enclosed garden at the back of the property and a private driveway, with parking space for two cars. Swan View is perfect for a family looking for a relaxing break in a quintessential English village, in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.

House Rules

Booking and payment

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposits

Security deposits are not required (please note that guests are still liable for any damage or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions).


The maximum occupancy of the property is 3+1 guests, at any point during your stay (with the +1 option being a pull-out bed in bedroom 2). Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.


Up to two medium sized dogs, or two cats, are accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking per pet.

For the comfort of future guests, we ask that pets remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a pet remains after your departure.

Bed linen and towels

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times

Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Bedroom 1: King size bed

Bedroom 2: 1 x single bed + 1 x 75cm wide single pull-out bed, available upon request (please note that when the pull-out bed is in use there is very little additional space in the bedroom)


Family shower room: Walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin

Heating, fuel and logs

The property has an oil fired central heating system.

Electricity and oil are included in the rental price. An initial supply of coal is provided for the living room stove and further coal and wood supplies can be purchased locally.

Services provided

The property has free wireless internet access and a Smart TV with a Blu-ray player.

A telephone is provided for local calls.

Guests should be aware that mobile phone reception can be very poor, typically being better outside the property than inside.


The property has a private driveway, with space for two cars, and additional quiet street parking is also available.


Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.

Child friendly facilities

A travel cot (without linen) and a high chair are provided.

Initial consumables

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.

Accessibility, health and safety

This is a period property and has many character features, including narrow and steep stairs, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.

The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.


No smoking is permitted throughout the property.

Cotswolds trip

Property is a lovely cottage, with a quirky layout . Convenient for the local pub which is of a high standard in both service and food and newly refurbished. Easy reach of Buford which is worth visiting and numerous walks and national trust properties.Well appointed throughout no real issues , shower doesn't drain properly but this just needs looking at. large kitchen big family table. I would recommend

Owner's Response: I would like to confirm that we discovered this problem when our team arrived to clean. The blockage seemed to be further down in the waste pipe.. an engineer was called with a pump to unblock the pipe. This is now resolved and we thank you for making us aware of the issue..

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides".

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Car: Southrop is easily accessed by car, being located seven miles away from the A40 and 10 miles away from the A419, which are two of the main roads through the Central Cotswolds

Train: The nearest railway station to Southrop is Charlbury (approximately 16 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than ninety minutes.

Plane: Birmingham International Airport: 62 miles, approximately 80 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 68 miles, approximately 70 minute drive.
