Really lovely cottage
Property manager Chris was heroic with his help over the cold and snowy weekend!
Thank you for your wonderful review of Norman Chapel, we're pleased to hear that the storm did not discourage you from coming & that Chris was able to help you. We hope to see you again soon!
Lovely house - but turn the heating up please!
We stayed in Norman Chapel with our friends for two nights during February half term. It's a lovely house with plenty of room, but ... TOO COLD! The kitchen is a good size, but the freezing cold tiled floor makes you not want to spend too much time in there. There is a notice next to the heating control panel asking you not to alter the timed settings so that the heating comes on from 6am - 10am, and 4pm - 10pm. It is possible to alter this to constant (although you are requested not to), but we could not find a way of increasing the temperature. It was only on our second night in the property that we noticed the thermostat on the dining room wall, and saw that the temperature had been set to 15 degrees. 15 degrees!!! In February!!! We probably ought to have noticed this thermostat before we did, but it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, and I think anyone would consider this level of heating during a cold spell quite mean. Especially as the rent is certainly not cheap.
There are two woodburners in the property. Only enough wood was left for one, and this burned through fairly quickly on the first evening, although didn't give out much heat. There was a notice that more wood could be purchased, but why not just provide what is needed to be comfortable when people are staying in the Winter?
The downstairs shower is a good size, but the water pressure is not very good.
Overall, a nice, clean property, and we really enjoyed staying with our friends in such a lovely area, but the owners frugality with the heating when we were staying there with children did detract from the experience. I hope others staying during cold weather will find the thermostat sooner than we did!
Many thanks for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay but sorry to hear you were cold. We normally turn the heating down when guests are not staying to ensure the cottage doesn’t get too warm with no ventilation, and turn it up again in advance of guests arrival - the cottage is very old and overheating can damage the foundations. But of course guests are free to adjust the thermostat and the manager would have been very happy to help with this. Ensuring our guests have a cosy comfortable stay is very important to us so we do leave enough logs for a couple of fires in each burner with the option to purchase more (or otherwise they can be sourced very easily locally), and we also have a basket of guest slippers that guests are free to use for extra comfort. We have installed the largest and most efficient burners possible to maximise heat efficiency which we hope you enjoyed. The water pressure in the area is unfortunately not optimal, and we are investigating ways we can improve the water pressure. We very much hope you will return to the cottage another time.
Best wishes, the manager and owner
Great House and wonderful stay
The house is well equipped to make the stay very enjoyable with all the basic amenities provided down to a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival. The house is beautiful with large bedrooms, and a great down stairs area. The only thing I would comment on is the pressure in the down stairs Shower is very low and using the hand held shower upstairs was difficult as I am 6 months pregnant so wasn’t ideal.
