No expenses were spared on this beautifully-decorated suite! It is ideal for one couple, but can sleep four. Making it perfect for a romantic get-away, or business travel. It has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, and two full baths. There is a fold-out sectional in the living area. You can walk downstairs for a great-tasting cup of coffee, breakfast or lunch without having to leave the building. Also included is a fireplace, washer/dryer. The kitchen is fully furnished, featuring granite counter tops, and including a coffee maker and toaster. My husband and I are native Dubuquers. We came up with this idea after staying at a cozy vacation rental in La Jolla, CA. It sat on top of a small restaurant that served breakfast and lunch. My husband spotted this property, and approached me with the idea, stating that if I wasn't 1000 percent "In", he would just forget about it. Needless to say, I was 1000% "In", and here we are, over two years and an additional building later, ready to share our dream with you! We hope you will love it as much as we do!
Tim Rusk purchased this apartment in 2012
We chose this property for two reasons. First, we both grew up in this area of Dubuque. Second, we love what Dubuque is doing for the downtown area, and feel that the Millwork District will continue to grow and will be the place to go in Dubuque.
Being in the Millwork District of Dubuque is a huge advantage to our property. We are close to so many attractions, making your stay handy and convenient to whatever event or purpose you have to visit our beautiful city.
Great place. The family enjoyed it. The owners were great. Would come back again when we're in town.
The Fleur De Lis was a wonderful winter haven for us - the private hot tub is a great finishing touch to what is already perfect accommodation. While we did not cook, the kitchen is fully equipped, with dishes and all appliances. There were a few staples in the cupboards as well - great to see and always convenient for guests. Comfortable bed, great light with the many windows throughout. Enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings. Having the coffee shop downstairs that will bring you your order (not just coffee but some very yummy eats!) is extremely convenient for those mornings you are off to a slow start and you want to enjoy your coffee and breakfast in the comfort of your bathrobe! Highly recommend.
This property exceeded our expectations. Roomy, comfortable, and just as the website portrays! Most definitely would stay here again and will share with others. The coffeehouse downstairs was phenomenal as well.
My husband and I chose to stay with friends of ours from Iowa in Dubuque beca use it was a half point for us both. We stayed at the Drake and absolutely loved it. The whole unit was beautiful and centrally located. The staff at the coffee shop was extemely friendly as well! We had so much fun! My only downfall was that we did not have sheets or any linens for the bed on the pull out couch. I wish I would have known so that I could have brought sheets, blankets, and pillow cases for my husband and I. Aside from sleeping, we greatly enjoyed the Drake.
Don't know how to do justice to The Drake House. It exceeded all of our expectations in every way. Tim does an absolute fabulous job of seeing to it that you are taken care of in every way. We had the opportunity to stay in all three of the suites over the course of five days as we extended our visit to Dubuque and Tim was able to accommodate us with no advance notice but we had to change rooms. That was no problem as we simply left luggage by the door and when we returned it magically appeared by the door of the new suite. Tim assisted with it on arrival as well. His lovely mother manages the coffee shop downstairs and was extremely pleasant and a joy to see each morning when she delivered delicious hot coffee to our room. They didn't spare a thing when decorating and furnishing and everything is beautiful. The weather was mild, and we so enjoyed sitting out on the decks. I highly recommend this as the best place to stay while visiting Dubuque. I hope they add more properties as I think as people discover The Drake House and the Rusk family, it is going to difficult to find a vacancy.
The best way to experience Dubuque is to stay at the Drake House Vacation Rentals, located in the Millwork District, in the heart of downtown Dubuque. We are the perfect alternative to staying in a hotel. Our three suites are all very homey and upscale. When you stay in The Fleur de Lis Suite, you know you're in Dubuque. It has a unique hint of French flavor, after Julien Dubuque, our city's founder, giving you a unique, inviting place to stay. It is fully furnished, including a full kitchen, washer/dryer, two full baths, fireplace, and it's own private deck, which includes a hot tub.The Drake House is located right above Charlotte’s Coffee House, so either you can just go downstairs and enjoy a great cup of coffee and breakfast, or if you really feel like being treated special, you can call down and have it delivered at no extra charge. Staying with us is considered an experience, not just a place to sleep! It is within walking distance to The Voices Art Gallery, bike trails, the Mississippi River, the Gym Fitness Center, several restaurants, and year-round Farmer’s Market.
