The Braisher/Wolfenden family that owns and operates the lodge have lived in the valley since 1909.
Grandpa Alfred Braisher drove the very last stage coach between Golden and Cranbrook before the railway put him out of business in 1912. After WWI he returned to establish Kingsclear Ranch just south of town. The farm is still ran by the Braisher family and will celebrate it’s 100th anniversary and 5th or maybe even 6th generation in 2018.
Archie Wolfenden came over from England in 1908 and built the Brisco General Store in 1912. In 1921 he sold the store and bought Fortress Ranch which later became Birchfield Farm and was taken over by his son Winston.
The farm has grown and is still home to the Wolfenden family, albeit a lot quieter than when Winston was around.
There are countless stories about this rough and tough cowboy, and we love to share them with our visitors at the lodge.
Jayson & Jenelle Raffe purchased this lodge in 2012

There are 6 luxurious Silver (standard) rooms, 4 Golden (deluxe) rooms and the Platinum (VIP) Loft suite. Enjoy the large common areas that feature an out-door hot tub, sauna, games room, library, fireplace and a sitting room that’s just for our guests.
There is a story in every corner and on every wall. Our guests enjoy the local history that is told by the pictures and antiques provided by the Golden Museum and our own private collection.
