I’m a writer and I’m often traveling. My Venice home is a classic 1913 2-bdrm/1 bath Craftsman with hardwood floors and many original details. It’s tranquil, private and flooded with natural light. There’s a porch with hammock and Adirondack chair, and a garden with table and chairs, a Fuji apple tree and a lemon tree. It’s fenced, gated and secure. It's on a palm-lined corner distant from through traffic. A ten-minute stroll by way of the walk streets to trendy Abbott Kinney Boulevard, several minutes by car to the beach or the Venice Canals, or not much longer by bicycle or on foot to all of Venice’s amenities. Plenty of street parking. There’s wi-fi, washer-dryer, TV, stereo, skylights, and books and music and folk art gathered from my travels. With a queen bed, a double futon frame bed, and queen futon frame bed, it can accommodate up to 6 people. If I'm not there house manager Anna will greet you and make sure your visit is a good one.
I am a fiction writer and also a travel writer. Favorite destinations: Mexico, Burma, Morocco. My base in Venice is sunny, quiet and peaceful - a great place to depart from and come home to after a trip away. It's close to the city yet removed, and tucked into Venice's lively beachside community - reachable on foot, by bicycle, or driving. A great place to be when I'm there, a lovely place for you to visit when I'm not.
Anthony Cohan purchased this house in 1984
This was an ideal base for our first-ever week in LA - we had travelled from Australia for our son's wedding. The house is comfortable, spacious and with loads of character. Good well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. Huge living/dining room with large dining table and plenty of seating - things often missing in holiday rentals. Location is excellent - a lovely walk to Abbot Kinney and beyond. Highly recommended.
Hi Tony and Anna,
I would highly recommend this fabulous 1913 Craftsman home. The owner genuinely kind warm and friendly. Anna the lady who greets you is amazing!!!!! The home has charm, warmth, lots of great music, books, artworks. It's within walking distance to Venice Beach and the fun Abbott-Kinny charming and chic shops. I absolutely loved staying in this lovely home, nice quiet street.....lots of humming birds their awesome. Comes with everything you need for great Venice Beach experience.
Tony and Anna I will be back soon!!!!! :-)

We enjoyed our stay in Anthony's house. Conviniently located, close to everything. Great bike rental within walking distance. House ist old but clean. Anything necessary is provided, washer, dryer, kitchen untensils, etc. Anthony is a very nice host, good communication. His guide to house/area was very helpful. Would definitely stay there again!
Venice is... Venice! Quirky, alive, always changing, Venice is filled with secrets and color. Magenta bougainvillea, wisteria...views of the majestic palms against the snow capped mountains beyond. Parrots and humming birds. Crows and morning doves. Always something to see... people to watch. The beach at dawn or sunset. Early morning yoga with the dolphins and pelicans. Sweet smell of jasmine...
Check out Abbot Kinney Boulevard - 'the coolest block in America!' It's a short 0.7 mile walk.
There are lots of really great options, but our VERY favorite restaurant on Abbot Kinney is Gjelina's:
Wonderful Venice Beach and Boardwalk is a must. Only 1.3 miles. A great walk through the tranquil and lovely walk streets or straight down Venice Boulevard. You can also catch the bus that leaves from Venice Boulevard just around the corner.
