Just 65 miles from New York City, a cozy, artful three-bedroom home on five acres along a babbling brook. Only minutes away from Storm King Arts Center, Woodbury Commons, West Point, Black Rock Forest Preserve, the Body Art Yoga Barn, Blooming Hill Farm, Brotherhood Winery and Round Hill.
With floor to ceiling windows looking out in to the woods from the living room, there's a sense of being right in the middle of nature from morning to sunset.
The house, decorated with contemporary art and family antiques, is both a great place to connect to friends and family and a quiet, secluded space to sit by the fire, read, rest, cook, work. There is no TV in the house but there's WIFI.
House rules are pretty simple: no smoking, no pets and no parties. Check in is 4PM. Check out is 11AM.
You'll feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city---but without having schlepped very far at all. And, should you get bored, you're only a handful of miles from incredible excursions including the world renown Storm King Arts Center, a beautiful Saturday afternoon brunch and farmer's market at Blooming Hill Farm, premiere outlet shopping at Woodbury Commons, the Body Art Yoga Barn, hiking at Black Rock Forest Preserve, cycling and more. Nearby destinations include Bear Mountain, the quirky arts village Sugar Loaf, and the town of Beacon, known for its DIA art museum, natural beauty and hipster upscale boutiques.
The house has three bedrooms---two have a queen size bed, and one has a trundle bed with two twins. We also have a new queen size air mattress, a pack n play and a mini crib. There are two large living rooms---one upstairs by the fire, and one downstairs, with a lounge area and work desk.
There are chairs by the creek for creek watching. Deer, birds and squirrels roam.
Several hundred books live here across many genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and essays. There's also a basket of old New Yorkers.
A child-friendly house, we have a large collection of children's books and toys.
For guests I leave the house open with keys on the kitchen table and am available by phone any time to answer questions.
Hi there! I'm an arts journalist and mom who splits time in Blooming Grove, Manhattan, Santa Rosa and Wellfleet.
My wife and I stayed here with three of our friends in December. We had a great time enjoying the peaceful setting and the comfortable home. We especially liked making a fire on cold nights. Lizzie was great and made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful time. We are looking forward to our next stay at this location.
We will definitely book this place again. It is out in the woods but still close to a lot of attractions. Everything worked as it should and the owner is available by email for any questions. Easy check-in and check-out.
The wood stove is nice and plenty of dry wood is provided. We saw deer on every trip in and out of the property. The space is clean. A great place to use to get away from everything.
We were very pleased with our stay here. Having 3 bedrooms and 2 baths worked out great for our family. Everything was clean, and the owner was very pleasant and accommodating. It was so much nicer than being in a hotel, because we had a place that we could all relax in together in the evenings, and cook our own meals if we wanted. It's definitely off the beaten path, but fairly close to a lot of things. We were happy to have found this place for our stay.
Lizzie's house was perfect for our quick getaway weekend! My friends and I had rented her house as we were attending a nearby wedding at Brotherhood winery. The house comfortably slept all 6 of us and was just what we needed! She was very helpful and accommodating about answering all my questions before and after our stay. And was so kind and willing to help mail some items we had left behind. The house is tucked away in a lovely nest of nature and had gorgeous views! Thanks Lizzie for opening your home to us all!
This was a very nice home. It had everything that you would need for a relaxing weekend away. Very cozy with a wood burning fireplace. It was very child friendly with toys and a door at the top of the stairs to the basement. However, No visitors are allowed in the house. It would have been good to know this prior to booking and you may see the owner.
We rented Lizzies house for a weekend getaway with our daughter who is a cadet at West Point. The house was very nice. Secluded but yet close to restaurants and a little shopping. The living room - kitchen great room was very nice. The downstairs family room came in handy for a few cozy nights of movies. The bathrooms are brand new and the sheets are very soft. If you stay here be sure to visit the storm king art center. It is a 500 acre sculpture park. So worth seeing. Thank you Lizzie for a nice weekend
