Set in an acre of peaceful tropical gardens with shared pool

About Sarah or Simon Ellis
We live in Cambridge and have two teenage children who keep us busy! We love to travel and have many friends and family around the world but Barbados always remains in our hearts as the best place in the world
Sarah or Simon Ellis purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Sarah or Simon Ellis chose Speightstown
Barbados was the first place we visited when Simon actually managed to comletely switch off and relax. We love the people and the island and caught the bug so continued to return. Once we had our own family we decided it would be lovely and special to have a home from home in which the children felt safe and comfortable and we knew we could start relaxing straight away. This home is very special to us as it is very family orientated with it own large garden and pool and only a short walk to the beach and all its amenities. We knew this would appeal to others so decided to share it and we hope you agree.
What makes this Cottage unique
The apartment is located in a peaceful and tranquil setting away from the hustle and bustle of the main west coast road but close enough to walk to one of the best beaches on the island, Mullins and only a mile from the upcoming Speightstown with all its bars and restaurants. A car is not necessary as there is an excellent bus service a few minutes walk away which can transport you up and down the West Coast.

Quirky but enjoyable.
We enjoyed our stay in the Pool House . The garden was absolutely delightful and well kept. The staff were friendly and helpful. The housekeeper was particularly friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The kitchen was not very user friendly with the sink at an awkward height and the microwave cooker at 5 feet high. No problem if you eat out but in our 4 week stay we ate in a fair bit. The beach is great and it is no problem that the old Mullins Beach bar is restricted to Westmoorland. Adrian’s Shack bar is great for rum punch and sunset views. Just felt that the Pool House was not fitted out to the same standard as the main house.
This was the second time I have stayed in the Pool Apartment, and the third time overall at Mullins Bay House. I had a fantastic week; Simon and Sarah are the perfect hosts, with a real commitment to making their visitors feel welcome and at ease.
The apartment itself is just right for one person or a couple; the bed is comfortable and protected by a mosquito net, and you can regulate the temperature in the room so sleep is easy to come by, particularly after a couple of Rum
Kitchen equipped with everything you could want and the area is compact meaning it’s easy to keep in order. Being right next to the pool is an extra bonus; you can take one of the many books off the shelf and get into holiday mode super quickly!
Listen out for the sound of mango’s dropping onto the ground from the tree behind - in summer it’s prime season and a delightful reminder of where you are in the world, even if you fancy a quiet day in.
Staff are unfailingly polite and charming, a nod to to the Bajan culture but also to the relationship that Simon and Sarah have with them, ehh has been nurtured over many years of trust, loyalty and kindness.
A safe, quiet and peaceful haven
We stayed at the pool house for five days. Wished we had modified our plans and stayed our entire trip! It was beautiful, clean and safe. The place was spacious, bright and very well equipped with all the necessities. It was wonderful to have a pool and nice seating area surrounded by a beautiful, well-maintained yard. The owners provided a wealth of information and made us feel so welcome. As well, Andrew was always there to help and even showed us how to properly crack the coconut for our daily breakfast.
About a dozen monkeys showed up to entertain us for a couple of hours. That was a thrill.
The beach is an easy stroll down the road and we ate at Mullins Beach Bar a couple of times. It was good. Bombas is also a great place to visit and close by. The bus system works amazingly well and the stop is just down the road from the pool house. This comes in handy if you want to visit Holetown or Massy’s For groceries. We are now in southern Barbados, St.lawrence Gap/Maxwell and we miss Mullin’s beach!
Thank you for everything Simon and Sarah! We are considering much longer stays as we have more vacation or retirement.
P.S. Thanks for recommending Calypso. We had the best time ever on their Catamaran and I will share my reviews for that online.
Very inviting, calming and extremely beautiful.
We stayed at the pool apartment for a little over 2 weeks. The property was beautiful, clean and relaxing. We had a great time in the pool. The standout was definitely the staff who are very kind and helpful. The pool apartment was cleaned every other day and the staff were very courteous.
It was nice seeing the monkeys that came by during the day.
Simon and Sarah were also an ease and joy to work with.
We will definitely return.
We had a great time
The location is perfect with 2 beaches very close and lots of places to eat within a mile or two. Speightstown is lively - especially the Little Bristol Bar on the waterfront which is great. We loved the yellow buses with music blaring.
The pool apartment is comfortable and well maintained by Claudett who is very friendly. Nice to see monkeys helping themselves to mangos in the garden. The information provided by the owners was excellent and we enjoyed several of the suggested eating places. JuJus is great and we had a special meal at Cariba. Hope to stay longer next time. Pippa
We had a fantastic time in Barbados and loved our stay at the Pool Apartment - it was excellent value for money. As other reviewers have said it has a rustic charm and definitely grows on you the longer you stay - we were there for 2 weeks. The owners were really helpful and the information provided prior to our stay was invaluable .... we tried a lot of restaurants on the list and couldn't fault any of them. The location was excellent and its very easy to get around on the buses which stop at the bottom of the road. Would definitely recommend it to others.
