About the property

Honeymoon Cabin on AuTrain River w/private waterfront near Lake Superior Beach

Conveniently located in the heart of the upper peninsula just minutes from Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, dozens of waterfalls and endless outdoor activities and adventures. AuTrain River Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages are pet friendly and range from one bedroom to 4 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 8 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like WiFi, towels, linens, blankets, pillows and cooking supplies. There is a fire-pit area for guests to enjoy a fire w/a view of the river and wood can be purchased locally. Also included is a gas grill w/propane, and a canoe w/paddles and preservers. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. Additional kayaks are available for rent. A fishing boat w/motor are available to you on site for a discounted rate. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details.

The Cedar Cottage was my first cottage, I completely updated the interior and exterior of this place. It has become the "Honeymoon Cottage" as I typically have 4-6 honeymooners each year stay. Although it can sleep up to 4, It is perfectly setup for couples. The kitchen is fully stocked, there is A/C, WiFi and there is a 32" TV with internet streaming service. The bedroom has a pillowtop Queen which is very comfortable. Overall, it has tons of character as the walls are all original pine log and overall has that UP feel. I have been told it's "very cabiny", cozy and cute.... Lounge on the deck in the loveseat, or down by the river! It is my most popular cottage among the 7 available.

The AuTrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing/kayaking as it winds 12 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful AuTrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located in Munising is only 15 minutes away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. If you are into fishing, Trout and Salmon are the most commonly fished in Lake Superior.

I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay. I will meet with you after you arrive and give you advice about the area and things you can enjoy during your vacation.

About Cory Cole

Plain and simply, I am a Yooper. I live locally year round and am a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exploring our area. I graduated high school and college here and I am an avid outdoors-man, I camp, hike, bike, kayak, ski, snowshoe, ATV, motorcycle, snowmobile and Jeep nearly the entire U.P. and if you have heard of it, chances are I've been there, or done that. I also know some places 'slightly off the radar' if you are looking to get away from the tourist areas. Just ask, I'll be happy to give you advice.

Cory Cole purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Cory Cole chose Au Train

I was a transplant to this area during high school years ago and left then came back. I couldn't stay away forever, this area is unlike any other. Sure there are beautiful places all over the country, but no matter where you are from, this place is special beyond words... This cottage is part of a private association with it's own river frontage. The property is the best on the river, it has a beautiful view, clean water with sandy bottom and plenty of space to relax. There are 10 cottages on this property (it was an old resort) I own/manage 7 of them for vacation rentals. I purchased these cottages with the intention of providing people a great place to stay, and the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful area. Overall, if someone doesn't enjoy staying here, it would be a first.

What makes this cottage unique

It is within 2 minutes of Lake Superior, one of the best beaches in all of Michigan, 15 minutes from Munising and the Pictured Rocks, dozens of waterfalls, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, biking trails and ATV/snowmobiling trails.(all available right from the cottage doorstep). AuTrain lake is accessible by boat right from the cottages and has tons of recreational opportunities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stayed in June this year, and it was awesome! Thanks Cory, we had a great time!!! As for the cottage, it was perfect. loved the new deck. You had everything for us and it made the stay most enjoyable. We couldnt think of anything else you could provide. Will definately be back next year, maybe even this fall for the color tour.

Great Weekend!!

  • 4 of 5

Our extended weekend started out a little shaky with the Mac Bridge being closed for almost 20hrs. So Unfortunately, we were forced to find unplanned, overnight accommodations "down below". Cory was more than understanding and even apologizing, (obviously out of his control). So we lost almost a whole day of riding due to this misfortune. However, we enjoyed the cozy and convenient accommodations and location(right off trails). Everything we could have needed in regards to kitchen necessities and many special extras, including an espresso machine!! Heck, coffee, spices, cooking oil, even microwave popcorn was available!!! We especially liked the gas grill.. just bring the burgers and dogs, making it easy for a late and easy meal after riding!! Cory, because he didn't have someone checking directly in after us , allowed us to check out a couple hours late, just so we could get in another quick ride before heading home!! We will forsure be returning!!

Cute Place for a Weekend Away

  • 3 of 5

Though we had a few hiccups in our stay, there was a leaking pipe in the bathroom and our pipes froze once. This cabin was very cute and perfect for our weekend stay. The cabin was clean, warm, well equipped, and the bed was very comfortable.

Nothing special but met our needs

  • 4 of 5

Very small cabin with a gas fireplace that heats up fast. Good for a cabin getaway for a couple. Affordable and nothing fancy. The bedroom was very small that was difficult to walk on either side of the bed so it felt cramped. Cable tv was not consistent. Would have been nice to have at least a set of 2 wine glasses. Bring your own shampoo soap etc as they are not provided and the water smells and tastes like copper so bring your own bottled water.

Cedar cottage in AuTrain

  • 3 of 5

Location was great for our trip covering most of the U.P. for waterfalls, light houses, picture rock, ship wreak museum, Oswald bears, etc. Our landlord wasn't easy to get a hold of when we needed him. Cabin was not very clean. I would look for another place for the money.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect cabin! Has everything that you may need and plenty of space! Cory was awesome and met with us to give us pointers on where to go and how to avoid the crowds. As the weather wasn't the most pleasant we didn't get to do everything we hoped, but that's okay. We will definitely come back and do some more exploring!

Do avoid the restaurants in Munising. The Brownstone Inn has delicious food!
