Perfect Winter Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

I booked Shanks Lodge to celebrate a winter birthday celebration and was overjoyed with the home, the property grounds and the hospitality of the owners.

Tchukon was a delight to work with and exceeded every expectation of a property owner. He was very responsive and has an incredibly pleasant and upbeat demeanor, which made me love Shanks Lodge all the more.

The property itself is a dream! The expansive deck overlooks a beautiful meadow and large pond with gorgeous trees, birds and even duck family. I can only imagine how gorgeous this place is in the warmer months! Our group went on a lovely hike in the woods and stumbled upon a secret garden, which was a pure delight to experience. The back of the house boasts a massive hot tub and pool, which was a delight to take cold plunges in to invigorate oneself.

The inside of the house feels a home with its tastefully decorated rooms, and the kitchen beaconed us to congregate and create warm and satisfying meals with its modern appliances and open floor plan.

The livingroom, loft and multiple bedrooms were perfect for our large party, and everyone awoke happy and well rested from the super cozy beds.

We loved everything about Shanks lodge and will absolutely be back!

I loved the house, and the pond out front is great for taking a boat out in the early morning!

  • 4 of 5

Everything about this house was great. The pool with the diving board is awesome for those hot days and the Jacuzzi keeps it fun at night. Basketball is fun too, but it's only a half court facing the house so you have to make sure the ball doesn't rebound and hit the windows. Inside the home there's plenty of cookware and utensils for all meals as well as a large fridge in the kitchen and one in the garage. The TV had a tendency to freeze so we couldn't really use Netflix, but the Direct TV worked perfectly fine for when we did want to watch something. There's also a bluetooth sound system under the TV that sounds awesome! There's ample parking space, but if you have a low car the dirt road up to the house can be a little brutal. The only complaints I have about the house was the privacy issues I had with a couple of the bathrooms. The bathroom with a bathtub in the master bathroom is very open to the outside and the toilet is right next to the deck so anyone outside can see what you're doing in that bathroom (there are privacy curtains on one side, but they're very thin and you can easily see through them). The other bathroom that's in the hallway near the other bedrooms also had an issue with the lock. You can push the lock in, but it will still open from both sides. Other than that I loved this house and I would come back again! Just make sure you stock up on food and water while you're in town because it's an hour round trip to the grocery store and back.

Exceeded all expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 4 adults & 10 children (10months, 2, 6, 9, 10, 13, 13, 14, 15, 17) ... We never left the property for 5 days & not a single child was ever bored. They most enjoyed the boat/kayaks on the pond, the diving board in the pool, jacuzzi & basketball court. We all enjoyed evenings together roasting marshmallows in the fireplace while watching movies. The kitchen is stocked with every appliance/dish/pot/pan/utensil imaginable & cooking for the masses in it was pure joy. We plan to be back every year. You definitely won't regret booking this amazing home away from home...

Beautiful serene place for our family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just stayed at the lodge this past weekend. A get together for our nanay's 92nd bday and reunion. We had a wonderful time at the lodge..and the house is just beautiful. It was very quiet and the lodge has everything you need! The hammock was quite popular for chilling and reading a good book and likewise we all really enjoyed the pool. We will come back soon! Thank you so much. The owner is very nice.

Address for Shanks' cabin:

6080 Smithers Rd

Mariposa, CA 95338

From San Francisco: Come towards Mariposa, CA. Once you get to the town of Mariposa take CA-49 S for about 11 miles. Make a left onto Triangle Road. In 3 miles, make a right onto E Westfall Road. Make the next left onto Smithers Road.

Only 1/2 mile down the road you will see our driveway on the right, please do not go farther then a 1/2mile.

This is very important since it is easy to miss our driveway and the neighbors are getting a little upset.

Look for the Sign that says Smithers 6080 it will have a solar light on top of it. Then turn down the driveway and go to the first cabin on the left.

From Los Angeles/Fresno: Go towards Mariposa, CA. Once you get to the town of Oakhurst, take a left onto CA-49 North for about 15 miles . Turn right onto Triangle Rd. Then follow directions from above.
