Luke and Catherine Fleischman have been living the dream for 15 years in Cumberland County. We enjoy skiing, gardening, riding, and running. Luke is an artist who paints and welds. Catherine is a special education teacher. We are active Virginia Master Naturalists. We generate 75% of the energy we consume by using solar power.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2001
Cumberland County has approximately 11,000 residents. In 1790 there were 16,000. It is a very rural county with private farms and 16,000 acres of public land. We live here because we can run for two miles on a dirt road before we reach the paper box.
Solitude, bird and wildlife habitat, very little traffic, these are gifts. The cabin and main house are apart of our nation's history. Hand hewed logs and beams, stone foundations, metal artifacts from the revolution and a library of books from previous owners dating to 1810 offer a unique opportunity to understand our past.
This place is special, and Virginia will forever be in our memory! This was a long-awaited girl trip for me and my friend after a long season of very hard work. It was not what we expected, for sure. It was more remote, and, although we expected rustic, it was R-U-S-T-I-C. But we found ourselves each day sinking deeper and deeper into it's magnetic ambiance of the simplicity of the past. They've furnished the kitchen with utensils and dishes from the past. Some great stuff. We had no cell signal or internet. (Luke was kind enough to allow us to use his hot spot occasionally.) The air was crisp and the fall color was stunning. Each morning, we had our coffee and warmed our feet by the fireplace. We glanced out the window to see the horses grazing in the pasture with a backdrop to the changing trees. Luke and Catherine kept the front porch loaded with fresh firewood and starters. We posted photos and got hundreds of responses! We were the envy of all our friends! :-)
I will admit, we were challenged by the steep stairs to the lofts when we first arrived, but found we adjusted to them quickly after a day. The only change I would have made to our trip was to reverse our itinerary and/or stay longer! We moved on to Williamsburg, which we thoroughly enjoyed, but we ached for the atmosphere of Vue Mont Cabin. Thank you, Luke and Catherine, for a dream retreat! We'll be back, and we are sending our friends!
Owners took the time to give my daughter a horse ride, thank you! Cabin was the perfect getaway. Would stay again.
Staying in the historic cabin was an awesome experience. The countryside is beautiful and the atmosphere peaceful. The Fleischman' s are such gracious hosts. We loved every minute of our stay.
Enjoyed the beautiful cottage out in the countryside in VA. Beautiful and relaxing views as the rustic cottage with just the right amenities to feel comfortable as if you were living in a more quieter and simpler era with comfort. It truly transported us into another world and provided us the perfect escape from the modern hectic world. Our dog absolutely loved the property. The hosts were very accommodating and attended our needs, they really made sure that we were comfortable! We'd definitely come back again.
It's was so awesome to stay in a 174 year old cabin. Cathy and Luke moved the cabin from another property where it was falllig apart and put it on their land restored it and added SOME modern updates. IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN A REAL LOG CABIN, ( NOT A PREFAB CABIN ),WITH A VERY GRACIOUS HOST YOU MUST STAY HERE. IT WAS "GREAT".
THANK YOU CATHY AND LUKE.
