Hello! My name is Charles Greenwald. I live in New York City and work in the financial services industry. I have a love of the outdoors, and the lake home is one of my favorite places to spend my free-time.
Charles Greenwald purchased this cabin in 1970
I have been spending time at the house my whole life! Going there with my parents as a child, and more recently with friends, my girlfriend or my broader family. It represents the perfect getaway from the everyday city life. It is an easy place to be, allowing for a relaxing, carefree, cozy and most of all fun place to escape! There is plenty to do year round for both kids and adults, whether its a swim in the lake, a bbq right outside or going for a great hike right nearby on the Appalachian trail. Send me an email or call at anytime and I will be happy to answer any questions you have. Thanks!
I find the house to be a truly unique place to relax. It isn't far from the city but certainly feels like you are. It is a fantastic place to spend time with your friends & family and unwind for a short, or long vacation.
Charles was a pleasure to work with and was responsive to our questions. The house was exactly as described. Decor was great, and house was surprisingly stocked with plenty of useful items for cooking etc. Fireplace and grill worked great!! We enjoyed the autumn views and taking the canoe on the lake. Not at all a deterrent, just be aware of the steep steps, hidden driveway and limited parking. GPS may not be able to find the house right away. This is a good thing for those wanting to be off the grid but within a short distance of NYC. Overall great place to stay!
We were in town for a wedding and needed a place that could accommodate a family. We found the property to be ideal for the weekend - it was clean, right on the water, had all the right amenities and reminded all of us of our grandparent's place on the lake in Michigan.
This property has a gorgeous setting on Whaley Lake - you actually feel as if you're on an ocean liner! The house was just as described in the listing, very warm and cozy and a perfect spot for fall foliage viewing and relaxing by the lake. My family had a lovely time.
I rented this house for labor day weekend with a group of friends. We loved every aspect of the property, including the lake access, sundeck, bbq, sunroom, and overall rustic/cozy interior. Everything went very smoothly, and Charles was extremely helpful and communicative in the lead up to our visit. I would definitely stay here again.
We rented the house for a week to be able to be near my daughter's home in Holmes while preparing for her wedding. It was so nice, after working on the venue for the wedding in the woods on their property, to be able to relax on the deck over the boathouse and swim and kayak in the lake. My other daughter enjoyed sitting on the swing feeding her baby watching the sunrises and sunsets. We were able to have 8 people enjoy dinner in the sunroom overlooking the water. There were restaurants that were very good and not far away. Charles was very accommodating before and during our stay and always got back to me quickly with any questions we had. We had a wonderful week.
Charles' lakehouse is an absolute gem. My friends and I had a blast sitting in the sunroom watching sunrises and sunsets. The kitchen was well-equipped with anything you could ever need. The beds were comfy and the house was very well maintained. We were here on the coldest night so far this fall (28 degree low!) but we were all so nice and toasty making smores by the fireplace. The boathouse came in handy for our fishing excursions on to the lake. And the bass fishing...absolutely top notch. We didn't land any monsters--most were in the 1 to 2.5 pound range, but what was lacking in size was more than made up for in numbers as we hooked into over 30 fish in two days! Charles was a pleasure talking to and took the extra effort to make sure everything was properly squared away before we arrived. I have no doubt we will return!
The house is located right on Whaley lake, with great swimming, boating and lake activities. When wanting to get out for a bit, there are plenty of things to do nearby.
There is a general store, grocery stores, Dunkin donuts, restaurants, movie theaters, parks, bars, skiing (beginner mountain), golf (and mini golf) all in the area (happy to give directions and names etc.)
About 20 minutes away is the town of Danbury, CT which has large stores for shopping, a larger restaurant selection and a couple more activities (i.e. bowling).
