Sleek, recently renovated mid-century modern house in Venice/Mar Vista.
Where do I start? Hardwood floors, new casement windows, long, galley-style kitchen. Newly remodeled bathroom with beautiful glass tile, spa tub, rain shower, and vanity with double sink.
A stone's throw from everything - the trendy restaurants and shops on Abbott Kinney, the beach, even Costco! Laundry facilities.
Newly landscaped backyard with a bar and a guava tree. Street parking. Cable and wireless internet. Even comes with a beach cruiser bicycle! What more can you ask for?

I'm a long-time Venice resident. I'm a traveller myself and have been the benificiary of incredible hospitality in the many places I've had the good fortune of visiting, so I'm only too happy to share whatever local wisdom I have with you. In my opinion, the Zanja Shangri-La provides the best of both worlds for the visitor - relative privacy and respite from the hustle and bustle of Venice/Santa Monica proper, but close enough to the beach and all the other fun stuff.
Spencer Aaronson purchased this house in 2008
A lot to love about this neighborhood. The place is a stone's throw away from everything - the trendy restaurants and shops on Abbott Kinney, pretty Marina Del Rey, hip, historic Venice beach, even Costco! And now there's a lot of activity around neighboring Mar Vista as well. Lots of new restaurants and night spots cropping up on Lincoln and Washington boulevards. You won't be lacking for things to do.
The property is as described and everything is clean and you will find it in a good condition. Close to Spencers home you will find some good restaurants and the beach is 5 minutes away with the car. We had rent bikes for some days and that was a great experience to visit all the great places ( Venice, Santa Monica Beach, Abbot Kinney and Marina) on an easy way.
The kitchen is fill equipped, the dryer and the wash machine is working well and there was enough place for our family with four persons.
We really love the stay at Spencer place and we had some awesome days in Venice. We appreciate his support and his hospitality. Spencers recommendations were very helpful and special the baby blues was a great experience for me and my family.
If you are like us that does not like to stay at hotels and want to enjoy the privacy of a spacious home with everything you need at your fingertips, this is a great place to stay. Kitchen had all the amenities, restaurants and shopping all walking distance, very quiet neighborhood and your very own parking space - which was very important for us. Spencer was available 24/7 - ready to help and address your needs. Highly recommended.
Best thing was the private and attractive backyard and deck, opening from kitchen and master bedroom. The house was comfortable and well-equipped, full of fascinating pictures, books, rock'n'roll memorabilia. The location is good, near shops and buses, good breakfast round the corner at Maxwells. Not too far from trendy Abbot Kinney and the beach; if you're fit you can walk it. Quiet, interesting neighborhood felt safe. We have lived nearby in Sunset Park Santa Monica, driven by Spencer's corner dozens of times - it was such fun to live there briefly. Great place for entertaining local friends and relatives!
My husband and I moved to the area without a long term rental finalized, and Spencer's home came to the rescue! We initially planned to stay in his home for 2 weeks. The location was convenient and his home was comfortable. Above all, Spencer was so kind and flexible. When our move in date to the long term rental was pushed back, he extended our stay by another week, "no worries." If you want to be close to Venice, Abbot Kinney, the beach, or Marina del Rey, Spencer's home is a good choice.
Just a note to thank you very much for everything. Our stay at your rental was perfect! The location, detailed instructions, & what you expected from us as guests and more, I felt much more at ease after meeting you in person. Your place is incredible and captured our imagination of what west LA is, and was, with a mix of vintage decor and modern updates. Blown away with the modern solar panels, awesome windows & blinds, on demand hot water heater on the outside and the victrola record player, old movie posters, collectibles, books etc..inside. Although my visit was mainly to attend my daughters graduation from UCLA, I got the same vibe at your place that she obtained on her venture several years ago when she left Austin, Tx and never returned.
We stayed for 2 weeks as we were visiting our daughter who lives and works in the area. We needed a space to accommodate both my husband and myself along our daughter and her pet - as she was having work done at her place. Spencer's home was perfect. It is in a convenient location and easy to walk to shopping and restaurants. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. Spencer was helpful, responsive and very welcoming. The beds were comfortable - even the futon in the second bedroom. The kitchen looks exactly as pictured and it has a lovely back yard.
